Cleansing effectively isnt a particularly sexy topic, but it is SO important. . A clean scalp is a healthy scalp, and in turn leads to happier curls and better hair growth. Who wants that? 🙋♀️ Yes please! . Here are some visuals of how to use shampoo and cowash (swipe ⬅️) to effectively cleanse. . 1️⃣ SHAMPOO Focus on massaging your low poo into your scalp (rather than all of your hair), scrubbing for a few minutes to ensure any dirt and oils are shifted. Allow the suds to run down your hair as you rinse the product out. . ➡️ Why focus on the scalp? Hair is naturally slightly acidic, and usually lower in pH than shampoo. Using high pH products (or too low ones for that matter) can cause hair to swell, affecting how the cuticles lie and can cause dryness and tangles. This is not to say shampoo will damage the hair (generally they wont be high enough pH for this), but focusing on the scalp and simply allowing the suds to run down the hair, cleanses whilst avoiding any issues like dryness. (SOURCE: The Science-y Hair Blog - pH and Your Hair) 2️⃣ COWASH Apply your product liberally to the scalp and then scrub with your fingertips or a scalp massager for a minimum of 3 minutes. Continue to scrub when you rinse the product out to really shift any dirt and oils. ➡️ It is VERY important to note that cowash needs mechanical scrubbing of the scalp to effectively cleanse. How long you will need to scrub your scalp for will entirely depend upon your hair, but you should continue to do so until your scalp feels clean. On top of wash day cleansing, you may need to clarify every so often to tackle any product and hard water build up that your wash day cleansers cannot remove. - Feeling really happy with these curls!!! The routine is deceptively simple. Cowash with Liveclean conditioner, rinse out, and apply a bit as a leave-in. Use a dime sized amount of Cantu cream, distribute through with a brush/finger raking, scrunch hair, and apply Dippity Do gel. Air dry.
