Cada 13 de septiembre se celebra el Día del Bibliotecario en la Argentina debido a que en 1810 una resolución de la Primera Junta de Gobierno, que alertó sobre la excesiva concentración de jóvenes en las tareas de armas descuidando su educación, creaba la Biblioteca Pública de Buenos Aires. Esta iniciativa fue responsabilidad de Mariano Moreno, quien también fue responsable de la creación de un órgano de publicidad de la Junta (Gazeta de Buenos Ayres) y la traducción y edición de El Contrato Social, de Jean-Jacques Rousseau. Ese día se dio a conocer la noticia en la edición de la Gaceta de Buenos Aires con un articulo titulado “Educación” y escrito por Moreno que informaba la creación de la primera biblioteca y los nombramientos de Dr. Saturnino Segurola y Fray Cayetano Rodríguez como los primeros bibliotecarios oficiales de la nueva era de la Independencia de la República. Años más tarde, en 1942, fue establecido como “Día del Bibliotecario” por el Congreso de Bibliotecarios reunidos en Santiago del Estero y definitivamente fue instituido como Día del Bibliotecario a nivel nacional, en 1954, mediante el Decreto Nro.17.650/54, en homenaje a cada uno de ellos. - @escritores_bonaerenses on Instagram

“Hyphenated Nature” series triptych - • Been trying to literally hyphenate my perceptually-based on-site painting practice with my conceptually-based interest in connecting to the Cuban landscape and history of Cuban artists who painted it- • This 30” x 78” triptych is comprised of two northern Florida paintings made at St. Marks Nature Preserve which bookend an Albers-based square (with colors drawn from the on-site paintings on either side) which then have a superimposed image of a famous painting by Carta, that is in the National Museum of Art in Havana. By 1845 wheat growing was sufficiently widespread in the area for a steam driven flour mill to be built and within fifteen years wheat was the main crop of the area. The mill and the village of Laggan grew up around it. The mill served the region for almost 100 years, initially providing flour, and fodder for cattle from the waste to local farmers, but later exporting it - even overseas during the First World War. Burnt out in the 1880s, rebuilt in 1891, production continued up until 1918.
