Is it wrong to take credit for this cook up?? Basically, I didn’t do anything...this is all @saucdlownslow rub and then let the #traegergrills do it’s thing, for 6 hours ( not that I was away for 6 hours, just away 3, but I was committed to the cause of being lazy and doing nothing). The #traeger575 was off and humming away at 120C (or 248F for those playing at home). After an internal temp of 88, I took it off and did what I’ve been doing all day, let it rest. I was surprise how juicy it still was with no wrapping or any extra steps or attention during the cook. The rub from @saucdlownslow was “The Gentleman’s Blend Coffee Rub”. It gave them a great flavor without being over powering. It was a hit on these and I’d like to try it again. Overall, for what I’m calling my autopilot cook, it was a success. So the last 12 months have been a huge learning curve for me and the last few months has taught me what is important and what I need to do for me . This weekend I made the decision to close the Brownhills shop from FRIDAY 25th SEPTEMBER. People will gossip and make up their own minds on why I have taken this decision but in all honesty it’s for my own health and well being . Ohhh, I got some panties in a twist yesterday with my story about carrying even if you have a spouse 😳 So let’s have a little chat about that... Guys, your spouse being able to protect themselves is not meant to emasculate you or demean you. It’s simply allowing them the opportunity to protect themselves, regardless of if you’re with them. My story had nothing to do with attacking masculinity, it was about empowerment and standing up for yourself. Ladies, unless your man is glued to your side 24/7, he isn’t always going to be there to protect you. That’s something you need to take responsibility for. You need to be able to protect and defend yourself, and your family, should the need arise. That doesn’t just mean having the tools to protect yourself, it means being aware of your surroundings, being vigilant to situations you are putting yourself in and the types of responses that can arise from said situations. To take that a step further, what happens if the day comes where your SPOUSE is the one that you need protecting FROM? Here’s a few statistics for you: - 1 in 3 women in the US (and 1 in 4 men) have experienced some form of physical violence by an intimate partner. - 1 in 4 women (and 1 in 7 men) have been victims of severe physical violence (e.g. beating, burning, strangling) by an intimate partner in their lifetime. - 34.2% of Florida women (and 24.6% of Florida men) experience intimate partner dating violence, intimate partner sexual violence and/or intimate partner stalking in their lifetime. Making the decision to be able to protect yourself, and making the decision to be prepared for a worse-case scenario doesn’t mean you’re automatically setting a relationship up for failure. It means you’re being smart in a country, and world, where violence is prevalent. You aren’t asking to incite violence, but you’re giving yourself leverage and potentially an out for if it does happen. Personal protection is just that. Personal. If you want to discuss it, we can. A recent survey conducted by the Kaiser Family Foundation indicates that 45% of adults in the US report that their mental health has been negatively impacted by worry and stress over the pandemic. Alcohol sales are a good barometer for the mental health status in our country, with a 55% increase in alcohol sales the last week of March 2020. Online alcohol sales increased by a whopping 243%. Most of us were self isolating or social distancing at that time, which means there were a heck of a lot of people self medicating with alcohol at home alone or with their families. The stress and anxiety related to this pandemic has wreaked havoc on the emotional and physical health of many people. Friends, remember that chronic alcohol use (and abuse) will compromise gut lining, alter the gut microbiome, lower your immune system, interfere with serotonin production, and sleep quality, increases estrogen and decreases testosterone. Alcohol also increases inflammation 🔥Brain scans of even moderate weekend drinkers show significant changes in the brain. None of those effects help your mental health in the long run, and may actually worsen the problem, causing more dependence on alcohol to feel better. There is nothing wrong with a drink or two on occasion-but stay aware of these effects and use exercise, meditation, music, and social support to cope with stress. Add glutamine, DGL, ginger, aloe water, and Curcumin to promote healthier gut lining. Partly because I have never been or will ever be a mother. As I move through this life thinking about aging and one’s place in the world, a lot of my time has recently been spent with my mother. She has been alone for several years and I have been looking at her with new eyes while listening to her history. It’s funny how growing up we have a tendency to view our mothers as just that. MOTHER. Growing up I was unable to see beyond that role of the woman who carried me in her womb, raised me “the best she could” and will in many ways continue to view me as a child regardless of my age. My mother went to work when I was very young to support us, attending night school while working and also taking care of nearby relatives. She was not home to greet me with a plate of warm cookies, asking after my day, when I came home from school. I remember when I was an adult coming into my own and finally seeing my mother as a person, a unique individual who had many adventures and stories to tell. The reasons behind perceived and real dysfunction became easier to understand. These images are a small documentation of my MOTHER, a small reflection of what has occurred and what lies ahead. • Carol Dass has been looking at the world through a viewfinder for as long as she can remember. Recently retired from teaching darkroom based photography at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs, Carol lives with her husband and two dogs. When not traveling with her 90 year old muse and mother, Carol collects and researches vernacular photography. You read that right & let me rewind 8.5 years. . . 22 year old me who has always loved to take photos, gets an iphone, & downloads instagram. “An entire app just to take a photo and edit it- this was made for me” were my thoughts. I had NO idea I was marketing myself. I don’t think I knew what marketing was. I was strictly just doing hair, because I was naturally good at it and my mom made me go to hair school💁🏼‍♀️. If i’m being honest at the time i didn’t love it, i liked it and thought it was fun. It was photographing my work that made me fall in love with doing hair. . . For awhile everytime I took my phone out to take a picture i’d hear “why do you take a picture of everyone’s hair” and i’d literally be like “idk why not i just like taking pictures ??”. (while thinking in my head bitch let me live🤣). Well little did I know my love for editing photos and putting together collages were getting me new clients. Instagram and my love for being a fake photographer changed the game for me. . . I often think back to these random moments. A few times this month I had flashbacks and thought imagine if I cared what people thought and just never took pictures of my work? I’d have NOTHING that I have right now. I wouldn’t have the people in my life that I have right now. EVERYTHING would be different. NEVER stop doing something because someone thinks it’s weird or it doesn’t make sense to them. The two best features are the barrel and the trigger. The 16” bronze barrel is made to Zev specs. The 2.5 pound ATC trigger is clean with the shortest reset. This combination allows for mind-blowing accuracy. While getting ready for the match, I shot a group of three that were touching at 300 yards with 55 grain match ammo. At the competition I took a stage win for TAC ops that involved shooting 10 rounds at 300. The accuracy is unmatched in any 5.56 barrel I’ve ever used. This rifle comes with a Surefire Warcomp. The Warcomp did an incredible job of mitigating recoil throughout the match. I was able to shoot quickly with minimal muzzle rise. AND it did not kill the ears of the range officer. One of my shelter-in-place projects is my studio/home office. I love that it is a comfortable and creative space to relax and see clients on Telehealth when needed. 4. I took a year off between agency work and private practice to attend Parker University for massage school. It was something I started thinking about after undergrad and decided it was finally time to explore a new avenue of wellness. It also taught me that if something has been speaking to you for a long time it is probably a good idea to listen. 5. I am more of an introvert and thrive in one-on-one settings or small groups of people. It took time to understand this about myself and now it is something I embrace! “Do I need a colonoscopy? or does my patient need a colonoscopy? have been questions on the minds of many in the past week. It’s heartening to see tragedy translate to so much focus on digestive health. But Ive also sensed that this can provoke anxiety, as many are wondering why it’s not being recommended to them, especially since some young (particular Black) patients with cancer are being missed by our current screening guidelines. Colonoscopy is invaluable in diagnosing colon cancer and other bowel conditions. But the procedure is time and resource-intensive and carries some small but serious risks, which is why it’s not recommended universally. 🔵 For screening in asymptomatic patients, there is a general consensus that you should have a colonoscopy or other screening method if you are: 🔹Black, over age 45  🔹Other ethnicities, over age 50 (*the American Cancer Society recommends age 45)  🔹Have a family history of colon cancer in a 1st degree relative, age 40 or 10 years younger than the youngest relative at diagnosis  🔹Certain genetic syndromes and inflammatory conditions, more individualized recommendations 🔵 A colonoscopy will often be recommended if you have any of these symptoms: 🔹Blood in the stool  🔹Unexplained iron deficiency anemia  🔹Change in bowel habits (diarrhea, constipation) 🔹Unexplained weight loss  🔹Signs of obstruction (nausea/vomiting, distension, inability to pass stool) 🔹Abnormal imaging  *Colonoscopy is typically not indicated (and may not be covered by insurance) solely for evaluation of abdominal pain or bloating unless there is heightened suspicion for a serious condition. There are of course edge cases and other indications that are not listed, and I think its a conversation everyone should have with their primary care physician or gastroenterologist.
