Was an anderer Stelle als loyal empfunden wird, empfinde ich als unterwürfig. Ich halte es nicht für erstrebenswert an einem Strang zu ziehen. Demokratie, echte Demokratie lebt eine Streitkultur die von gegenseitigem Respekt geprägt ist. Dazu gehört auch, Mehrheiten jenseits der eigenen Überzeugung zu tolerieren. In Groß-Bieberau gelingt dies nach meinem Empfinden am Besten in der Freien Wählergemeinschaft! Was möchte ich mit der FWG / mit Bürgermeisterin @anjadvogt2020 erreichen: Wie im Großen, so muss auch unsere Stadt nachhaltig aufgestellt werden. Diese höhere Aufgabe schwebt grundsätzlich über jeder Entscheidung die wir treffen. Die Leistung vieler Frauen beeindruckt mich sehr: Sophie Scholl, Marie Curie, Hildegard Hamm-Brücher, Lise Meitner … Ich freue mich, dass wir mit Anja Vogt eine Persönlichkeit im Rathaus besitzen. Als Parlamentarier ist es meine Aufgabe die Bürgermeisterin kritisch zu begleiten. Ich bin überzeugt, Anja Vogt wird damit souverän umgehen! Was mir wichtig ist: Mein erstes Physikbuch hatte ich von einem Schuster geerbt. Mein Interesse für Geschichte wurde durch eine Kauffrau und einen Schreiner geweckt. Bildung ist keine Frage von Titeln! Aber, Bildung besitzt einen gewissen Tiefgang und beschränkt sich nicht nur auf ein paar oberflächliche Statements eines einzelnen, vermeintlichen Experten. Bildung ist in der Lage vielschichtig zu denken und ebenso vielschichtig zu hinterfragen. A school garden doesnt need to be limited to a few months at the end of the school year. Greens are your go-to crops for cool fall planting. Want a fresh garden salad for Thanksgiving? Before the frost settles in during November, you can still squeeze a few weeks of moderate growing temperatures out of our west coast weather. ⠀ ⠀ Fall is an opportunity to stray beyond hardy lettuces and experiment with other intriguing vegetables. Arugula (Eruca sativa), beet greens (Beta vulgaris), chervil (Anthriscus cerefolium), chives (Allium schoenoprasum), mustard greens (Brassica juncea), and corn salad (Valerianella locusta) all provide new tasting opportunities for students. Logischerweise soll die magische Kraft des Wurmhumus möglichst lange erhalten bleiben - für eine sinnvolle Portionierung der Einheiten. Kein Problem! 💡 Berücksichtige bei der Wahl deiner Lagerungsform am besten folgenden Aspekt: Wurmhumus ist ein lebendiger Stoff, keine tote Materie. Das bedeutet: Schütze ihn vor UV-Licht und Austrocknung, lagere ihn in moderaten Temperaturen, gönne ihm Sauerstoff und damit die Mikroorganismen (MOs) im Humus lange leben, sorgst du für etwas kohlenstoffhaltiges Futter. Du kannst deinen gelagerten Humus z. B. mit Laub abdecken, sodass die MOs lange glücklich sind und die Superkräfte des Wurmhumus aufrecht erhalten. Grundsätzlich ist es sinnvoll, denn Wurmhumus in etwas in einem halben Jahr zu benutzen. These last three months have been one hell of a ride... For those of you following my posts on TikTok, Instagram and Facebook, you know that I have been creating mashups and mixes all in the name of positivity and fun. These mixes have opened several doors for me. Perhaps the doorway I was most excited to walk through was being invited to compete in the DJ of the Year competition. While I did not place well initially, I learned that last night the judges voted on their favorite performance to advance to the finals. For those of you who watch America’s Got Talent, I basically got the golden buzzer! YOUR BOY’S GOIN TO VEGAS!! - not really but I am in the finals! I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of the judges for voting me in. This competition has inspired me to be a better DJ, remixer, producer and mashup artist. Meet Lou, a Co-Chair of the YLC Board this year! Lou is based in Austin and has been a YLC Board Member for almost two years now. Lou was born with a cleft lip and palate and learned about Smile Train through his doctors. He was always “not-so-secretly jealous” of their ability to give back with their clinical skill sets. Her first name, Maigheo (pronounced Mayo) is for County Maigheo in the north west corner of Ireland and her middle name, Lewa, is after the stunning Lewa House in Kenya. I am a nerd. 😆 It’s true. BIG nerd...I’ve always been one and will always be one. I used to get picked on when I was younger (combine nerd status with thick glasses & husky jeans) but joining the wrestling team in 9th grade ended the bullying part pretty fast and I now get to take on the bullies 👍 I majored in molecular biology in college and was one of the few who actually loved organic chemistry. This really set the foundation for my career as an allergist/immunologist. I love learning about detailed pathophysiology, immunologic mechanisms and biochemistry...then using that understanding to help educate patients, my colleagues, and the general public. My wife is also a big nerd...and our kids are nerds as well. (They both voluntarily watched grand rounds with me today while getting ready for school😁) And don’t worry about me hurting their feelings...they are proud members of this club! I’m posting this for two reasons: 1. I realized I haven’t shared much of my background with all of you and will try to be better about that. 2. Now, more than ever, we need nerds in our world. We need people who enjoy reading and learning and asking questions and who change their minds based upon new information. We need better science communicators and more science literacy and less knee jerk adoption of ideas just because someone says something with conviction or shouts it over and over again. We need to embrace the process of learning. It’s how we grow and advance as a society. So, nerds unite! A promise is a promise. I gave my word to folks following my fan page that I’d post something sweaty and dirty - and here ya go! Why did I have to do this on the hottest day of this summer so far? 🧐 My boys scooted as soon as the last stone was laid and I have a little finishing work to do to even out a couple of spots, but all in all I’m pretty proud of the job. This will be a space to store our deck furniture during the winter. The last really dirty job of the season, I’ll post a pic of the BBQ station we did a couple of weeks ago when @juliazapcic sends them to me. TAP ROOM UPDATE With the announcements of further restrictions to hospitality from Government this week, we have updated our operating procedures to ensure we can all keep safe & adhere to the new guidance. FACE COVERINGS Please bring your favourite face covering with you, as youll need it to move around our site,(e.g. when going to the toilet). Although we run an outdoor venue, face coverings are now required to be worn except when youre sat at your table. Please make staff aware if you are unable to wear a face mask. TABLE SERVICE Due to the new guidelines, we will be operating a table service for the bar and for @doughnco1. That means your food & drink will be brought to you, and no more queues! WEATHER We are an outdoor venue with limited cover, so please bear that in mind when planning your visit. We have been building a second outdoor shelter this week, but it wont be ready until next weekend. Due to no more queues at the bar, we now have some tables available inside the taproom - these will be very limited, two x6 people tables, and 2 x2 people tables. OPENING TIMES Our operating hours are unaffected by the new curfew rules, so we will continue to operate until 9pm on Fridays, 10pm Saturdays & 8pm Sundays for the time being. BOOKINGS We will now take bookings for the taproom by emailing bookings@rivingtonbrewing.co.uk - we will keep the table free for 4 hours, and if no other groups are booked in or waiting, then we will happily extend the booking. We will only be able to hold the table for 10 mins. If you have a request for a specific table we will try and accommodate. We will also be accepting walking ins. TAKEOUTS We’ve struggled with time on our crowlers last few weeks, so this week we’re going to trial having a few Crowlers ready to sell over the weekend. Look what I made!! I’ve been working on this fire pit for about a year now. The weather was my enemy most of the time, and there were a few points where I started to regret digging this massive hole in my yard. I really wanted to build something unique when I first bought this house though, and this is my mark. It’s 10’x10’ and 3’ deep so you’re below ground when you sit. It’s such an awesome vibe, especially when it’s raining. I still have a few minor things to clean up, but I’m really happy with how it has turned out. Food Justice Interns have been working hard all summer troubleshooting how to improve the student experience with school meals as a part of the Healthy Schools unit. As part of the Virginia Foundation for Healthy Youth grant, last night Lynaisha, Hallie, BriAsia, Sethaun, and Ally (not pictured), all students of Charlottesville High, met with Representative Sally Hudson. The Food Justice Interns presented their ideas on improving school kitchen resources and increasing options of fresh, from-scratch meals. Soils are a non-renewable resource vital for food production, flood protection and tackling climate change. As the second largest natural carbon sink next to oceans, the top 30% of soil contains just as much carbon as the entire atmosphere! Through intensive farming, one third of the planets land has been severely degraded and fertile soil is being lost at a rate of 24bn tonnes a year 😣 If we dont begin to disrupt this trend and nourish existing cycles, we will no longer have natural productive food systems and carbon sequestration.
