Snatch | Directed by Guy Ritchie | Many have called Guy Ritchie the English Tarantino. Clever Plotting. Cool dialogue. Crime. Rich Settings. Colorful Characters. And I could probably agree with them for the most part, however, where Guy strayed from his wheelhouse of early films, (Lock Stock and 2 Smoking Barrels, Revolver, RocknRolla) and moved on to such films as King Arthur and Aladdin, QT has kept it pretty 100 with only films he’s written. That said, there is no doubt that Guy Ritchie is a visionary and one helluva director himself and who knows if he even wanted or liked those QT comparisons. Those are big shoes to fill. However, I like Guy the most when he’s doing films like this. Snatch is highly-stylized masterpiece that takes place in the London criminal underworld. Much like his first film, Lock Stock and 2 Smoking Barrels, Snatch has intertwined plots and a cast of insanely entertaining and funny characters with names like One Punch Mickey, Boris the Blade, Franky Four Fingers, Brick Top and Bullet-Tooth Tony. Brad Pitt, as One Punch Mickey, is especially good, probably the best he’s ever been, coming hot off his Fight Club physique and devouring the role of an Irish Boxer known for knocking out his opponents in a single punch. He is without a doubt the funniest he’s ever been. The film also stars Benicio Del Toro, Jason Statham, Lennie Jamies Goldie, Vinnie Jones and host of other English actors you’ve for sure seen since.
