“Let me tell you about my beeeest friend(s)...” 🎵🎶 . . Full disclosure, these are not my dogs. They are my mother-in-laws. I’m actually allergic to dogs.😭 . . I call them the Eggheads. . . Up first we have Daisy, aka Daisy Mae, aka Fur-Face, aka Goose, aka Punk, aka Ghost-Face, aka the Queen...the list goes on. She’s an (almost) 14yr old (acts like a 4yr old) Duck Tolling Retriever/Golden Retriever. Her retrieving skills need work. She’s more like a cow...grazes on grass all day in the sun. She loves most veggies (we need to put a fence around our garden to keep her out....little Punk). Though dandelions are her favourite spring time treat. Loves to have her old hips massaged, loves walks, loves life. She’s far to smart for her own good. She not one to shy away from voicing her opinion. And obviously she is the Queen of the castle. She’s starting to go deaf and she vision is also going but that hasn’t slowed her down. It’s not like she listened when she could hear anyway...lol. I love her more than life itself! . . Up next we have Joey. Aka Joey-joe-jo, aka Tank, aka Bub. He’s a (we think) 6yr old chihuahua/jack russell. He’s a rescue that we adopted about 7 months ago off the mean street of Southern California. He came to us with the name Gerald. He’s definitely more or a Joey but shows signs of being a Gerald. He can be so serious...lol. He’s the best little dude and he’s finally starting to feel at home with us. He’s terrified of loud noises, he doesn’t like flies and hates the rain. We think he ran with a group of ally-cats cause he cleans himself and purrs. He’s the classic big-dog-in-a-little-dog-body and thinks he’s the toughest dog in the neighbourhood. He’s also the biggiest softy and will melt into your arms when picked up. Belly rubs are his favourite preferably when he is sitting in your lap. Love this little guy! . . There ya have it, they are so different yet so similar and are the best of friends. Mind you Daisy is constantly stepping on/over Joey. Quick Update about Bruno.. He was not doing well the last 2 days, was super weak and had a very low body temperature. Fortunately we found a donor and today Bruno was stable enough for his blood transfusion. The whole procedure just finished and his heart beats, breathing rate and also the body temperature is normal. No sign of rejection until this moment. And also he tried to lift up the head after the transfusion.😍 Big thank you to Agathe who helped out with her 2 great dogs Paulo and Jess. Paulo was the perfect match.❤ Please keep Bruno in your prayers and send love and healing vibes his way. When you think antibiotics, you think they’re a good thing … right? Well … there’s a bit of a dark side to them. Antibiotics destroy your dog’s intestinal flora. And research shows that much of the beneficial bacteria in the gut is destroyed forever … even if you give your dog probiotics after antibiotic use. Dr Martin Blaser of Langone Medical Center says … “Early evidence from my lab and others hints that, sometimes, our friendly flora never fully recover. These long-term changes to the beneficial bacteria within people’s bodies may even increase our susceptibility to infections and disease. Overuse of antibiotics could be fuelling the dramatic increase in conditions such as obesity, type 1 diabetes, inflammatory bowel disease, allergies and asthma, which have more than doubled in many populations.” Previous studies looked at farm animals and antibiotic use. They showed increased antibiotic resistance in animals who take the drugs. This resistance also extended to the people who worked on the farms where those animals live. Even when farmers stop using the drugs … resistance persists for years. That’s because mothers pass drug-resistant flora down to their offspring for generations. It isn’t just about animals. Overuse of antibiotics has caused antibiotic-resistant disease in people too. So now there are serious infections that antibiotics can’t handle. Even the CDC recognizes this problem. And these aren’t the only problems with antibiotics. Anti = Suppression Whenever you use an “anti-” drug, you’re suppressing your dog’s symptoms. It may temporarily resolve your dog’s problem. But suppression can drive the disease deeper. And it often comes back later … sometimes in a worse form. So it’s best to save antibiotics for serious, even life-threatening illnesses. Thankfully … not every situation calls for antibiotics. And there are some GREAT alternatives. Ones that will help your dog avoid immune system complications. Why, for example, does my dog run out of the kitchen whenever I turn on the range fan? - There are an unbelievable number of online videos depicting dogs and other animals exhibiting fear of strange things. In these videos, people intentionally frighten their dogs, one man even caused his dog to scream and urinate in fear. Most of the comments thought the gag was hilarious since the dog wasnt hurt. Heres what most people dont understand. No matter how silly the fear may seem to us, it is very real to the dog. - It doesnt matter that we know the mask were wearing, the broom were pushing, or the person petting our dog poses no threat. If the dog is behaving in a way that indicates fear, the dog is experiencing fear. - The same fear a dog would feel if he were being attacked by a predator. - When a dog perceives a threat, the sympathetic nervous system kicks into high gear, releasing out the hormones responsible for fight or flight: adrenaline, cortisol, and norepinephrine. Short term, these increase the chance of survival. Long-term or repeated releases of these hormones can lead to serious health problems. Fear CAN hurt. - This process is the same for us when we hear someone break into our house in the middle of the night. Is it silly to be afraid when the burglar has no intention of causing us physical harm? No, its not silly. We dont know their intent. All we know is that people who break into houses arent there to serve us tea. And our brains prepare us for fight or flight. - However, there is one distinct difference between us and dogs, as noted by Gavin de Becker in his book, The Gift of Fear: “Only human beings can look directly at something, have all the information they need to make an accurate prediction....and then say that it isnt so.” Dogs cant do that.
