Nowdays we take our elders for granted, we have stopped spending time with them, and we are just busy with our phones and gadgets and not even considerate about them! When they need us, when they are the most vulnerable we are not there for them.. We should remember that a time will come when we will also be in this stage, and if at that time our grandchildren or the young generation doesnt even care about us, how would we feel? Ever since I met you, I have always strived to understand you and your ways. After all, I feel that if I don’t understand you, how do I truly love you? But time has taught me otherwise. Time has taught me beautifully of how I don’t have to always know why you are the way you are to love you. The truth is that everything- you, me and the universe has a mysterious side to them. If I am going to spend my time only trying to solve the mysteries, when will I celebrate what I have been blessed with? Since I am writing this, I want to take the time to apologize for the times I didn’t give you the space that you asked for. I was just afraid that the distance and silence would wither our love which had just bloomed. Though I cannot rewind time and change my actions, I promise that I will be a better companion from now on. When such situations take place where I don’t understand you, I will not ask you again and again to explain. Instead I will laugh my heart out as I recall the memories and wait for the time to explain what I need to know. Also when you wish not to hold my hand, I will not insist. Today, I celebrate four years cancer free!! Unless you’ve had cancer you may not understand what a cancerversary is to a survivor. It’s a point of reflection for what was and how far you’ve come. I celebrate because I’ve been given the gift of time, I celebrate because so many I know have not been given time, and because so many continue to endure their cancer challenge. There is no good cancer. Regardless of where it is, it is an unexpected journey that you are thrust into and turns your expectations of life upside-down. And yet, there is a gift that you receive,....to embrace how precious life really is and to move forward never forgetting the wake-up call that you’ve been given. Every day as I take my three medications, I am reminded of my journey to today, and grateful for the one that lies ahead of me. Sure, thoughts always loom about.... if, when or where cancer might return. That’s the blessing- to inspire you to live life to its fullest.
