Samtliga greps då de deltog i en fredlig protest i Minsk. De fredliga protesterna och demonstranternas krav på att presidentvalet ska göras om har bemötts med kraftigt våld. Enligt FN-experter har 450 fall av tortyr dokumenterats sedan massprotesterna inleddes. Attackerna har även riktats mot oberoende medier i landet. Journalister som försökt bevaka protesterna har gripits, trakasserats och utsatts för våld. Utländska och inhemska journalister, som arbetat för internationella medier, har blivit av med sin ackreditering och minst en journalist uppges ha deporterats och fått inreseförbud till Belarus. Omvärlden måste reagera hårt och inte låta saker återgå till det normala om repressionen lyckas den här gången. As restrictions remain for in-person religious services, one Ottawa church is offering its congregants an innovative way to connect with their faith. These photos by @davechanman of St. John Lutheran Church in Ottawa’s New Edinburgh neighbourhood show an enclosed compartment, nicknamed the “God Pod” by Pastor Reverend Joel Crouse. The pod is outfitted with a glass partition between the two sides and an open air filtration system to prevent the spread of COVID-19. “During this pandemic, many people have felt isolated and lonely. We’ve missed simply being together, to sit and listen, we’re always wondering if it’s safe,” Rev. Crouse said. “The God Pod resolves all of the logistical issues - sitting too close or having to wear a mask.” The “God Pod” is currently available by appointment only and is disinfected after each use. The Ontario company who designed and built the pod, SnapCan, who manufactures enclosed office spaces, is currently working on producing more pods to sell. It is the first complete sign-language Bible translation in the world. This historic announcement was a highlight of the dedication program for the new ASL Remote Translation Office (RTO) in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, U.S.A. The program was held at the Christian Convention Center of Jehovah’s Witnesses in West Palm Beach, Florida. More than 2,500 attended the program while another 15,635 were tied in by livestream to Kingdom Halls throughout Belize, Canada, the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Trinidad and Tobago, and the United States, bringing the total attendance to over 18,000. After the dedication talk, Brother Jackson announced the release of the final book of the Bible in ASL. “We want to mention something to you—something very special,” he said near the conclusion of his talk. “With the release of the book of Job, the whole New World Translation is now complete . . . As far as we know, Jehovah’s Witnesses are the first organization or group of persons to release the complete Bible in ASL. And probably that means it’s the first complete Bible in sign language in the world [and] in the history of mankind.” The release of the book of Job is the culmination of 15 years of translation work. The Governing Body approved the production of the ASL New World Translation in 2004. Two years later, the book of Matthew was released, and the rest of the Greek Scriptures were progressively released until 2010. The Hebrew Scriptures were released over the last decade. The Australian government has failed to meet important commitments to protect the rights of refugees, asylum seekers, and Indigenous peoples, Human Rights Watch said today in a submission to the United Nations Human Rights Council.
