September 15 marks @UN International Day of #Democracy. Now on view at @MuseumofCityNY, “Who We Are: Visualizing NYC by the Numbers” considers the importance of the #Census as a fundamental act of civic participation.” The exhibition also explores the demographic history of the New York City, which has been molded by decades of immigrant arrivals, their movements determined by global political and economic conditions. Here, an interdisciplinary team of faculty from @NortheasternU has visualized the shifting origins of immigrants as growing tree rings. ### Image courtesy Pedro Cruz, John Wihbey, and Felipe Shibuya (via @MuseumofCityNY). #JustCommunities #Census2020 #Design #GraphicDesign #Map #Maps #Data #DataViz #DataVisualization - @mellonfdn on Instagram

There are two more days to experience @marijabjones interactive online work Beginningless Mind, streaming throughout September on our website.⠀ ⠀ Beginningless Mind follows life on Earth where energy and information unwind cosmic law from order to disorder, and where the earthling is the youngest, yet most detrimental species.⠀ ⠀ Presented online as part of our I Should Be Doing Something Else Right Now Live series, the new work sees Bozinovska Jones collaborate with @33emybw, J.G Biberkopf and Jayson Haebich (@laserjason) to create a three-fold audio-visual narrative that interacts in real time with search engines using natural language processing to decipher todays ordering of knowledge.⠀ ⠀ Watch and interact with the work via the link in bio.⠀ Visit the @abandon_normal_devices website to read an interview with the artist about the work. ⠀ Beginningless Mind is commissioned by @abandon_normal_devices (AND), University of Salford Art Collection and Somerset House Studios. Produced by Abandon Normal Devices and Somerset House Studios. - @somersethousestudios on Instagram

This is a detailed preparation of the cross section through the ovary of a Buddleia Globosa. Note that the ovary is covered in tangled hairs and the base of the style is also hairy. ••• Buddleia globose is a shrub with round orange-yellow panicles-shaped flower clusters. The flowers look just like marbles hanging from the tips of the branches and originates from Chile and Argentina, about 2000m altitude. ••• Check out the complete article at https://moticeurope.blogspot.com/2020/09/just-beautiful-preparation.html (link in bio) ••• 📸 Willem Cramer ( www.willemsmicroscope.com) 🔬I IMAGE 1 SMZ171 Stereo Microscope & #Moticam S6 IMAGE 2 BA410 & Moticam Pro S5 Plus (filter Texas Red and fluorescence attachment) ••• #MoticEurope #Motic #Microscopy #Microscope #Science #Fluor #Fluorescence #Botany #Buddleia #StereoMicroscopy #Photomicography #SciArt - @moticeurope on Instagram

Jupiter’s roses: A cosmic bouquet just for you. Not actual roses, these are in fact cyclones on Jupiter’s north pole. These swirls of striking colors in this extreme false color are a rendering of an image from our Juno mission. The huge, persistent cyclone found at Jupiter’s north pole is visible at the center of the image, encircled by smaller cyclones that range in size from 2,500 to 2,900 miles (4,000 to 4,600 kilometers). Together, this pattern of storms covers an area that would dwarf the Earth. Citizen scientist Gerald Eichstädt made this composite image using data obtained by the JunoCam instrument during four of the Juno spacecraft’s close passes by Jupiter, which took place between Feb. 17, 2020, and July 25, 2020. The greatly exaggerated color is partially a result of combining many individual images to create this view. Any idea whats under the #microscope? What youre actually looking at is a closeup of shaving foam. Talented photographer @electron_micronaut explains that shaving foam is a colloid whereby a gaseous phase is dispersed within a liquid continuous phase. When looking at it under the microscope, the pattern is similar to that of an atomic lattice.
