US postage stamp. Scott #2838 (1994) World War II - Road to Victory World War II was the most significant event of the 20th century. The U.S. Postal Service began planning for the war’s 50th anniversary in 1985. It wanted to honor key events of the war effort as well as the various endeavors that contributed to the Allied victory. But how to do that without producing a thousand stamps? The solution was a series of sheetlets, one for each year of the war, that consisted of a large center map framed by five stamps on the top and five on the bottom. Five years of commemorating World War II yielded five sheets and a total of 50 stamps – enough for an honorable tribute and enough to accomplish Postal Service goals. The world maps are masterpieces of thumbnail summaries. They call attention to the major military and political developments of the year and include events not featured on the individual stamps. Color coded for easy identification of friend and foe, they’re “a year in summary” at a glance. Masculine and feminine traits: We tend to think of them exclusive to each other; aggression as masculine, nurturing as feminine, as example. In western tradition, males considering themselves “men” seek to express masculine traits, suppressing inclinations of feminine ones, indicating a profitable maleship.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ But let us assume the goal of being a “whole human” exceeds the capacity and role of being a “masculine male.” A whole human is capable of expressing their predilect masculine or feminine side, additionally choosing to deliberately develop the muted qualities in the other increasing their responsive capacity.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Think of it this way; behaviors such as aggression or nurturing are sovereign traits, free to lend themselves to either side of the coin; they are not proprietarily aligned with only one. Instead, we respond from any given trait with an action resulting from our masculine, feminine orientation created by our socialized, cultural expectations of each sex - and whatever conscious work we have done to expand our understanding of these domains.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ For example most might associate “protection” as a masculine trait. But surely you have seen - or at least read a tremendous news account - of a woman courageously protecting her children. The distinction here is the visible action of the expressed trait. A masculine expression of protection might go outwards, directly confronting a threat to one’s child. A feminine expression might be to go inwards, using their body to shield from an incoming threat. Neither is wrong, nor codified as male or female. In fact one may start out by going towards the threat with force to thwart it but change tactics mid-conflict, retreating inward to protect the child with their body.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Contemplate the masculine, feminine concept as a continuum.
