I never thought how much it would take to shoot Old Hollywood Style portraits...but it’s worth every second of preparation und effort...looking at old @hurrellphotos in books, watching movies he photographed the campaign images for inspired me to follow his paths...so I started to gather furniture that would fit the vintage idea, clothes from those days and shoes...it was an interesting time and last but not least I have an make-up-artist specialist by my side who even made these upcoming image possible it’s @bertavonulrich @thevintageart_bertavonulrich not to mention my beautiful model @kj_18_97 who works with me and my photography for almost 4 years now! The backdrop on these images were hand painted by @perlthomas1345 @perlthomas62 . I use them because they are so wonderful for this type of photography. I usually only share positive stuff on here so thought I’d share something a bit more realistic (as actually feeling like this on tour was always more common for me than feeling good) Jamie took this photo of me before dancing the Pas de Six in Giselle last year; I couldn’t get my pirouettes right at the 5 minute call. I think this was our 6th show of the week and probably about the 2nd month in of touring. So here’s me exhausted, stressed, miserable and having a small mental breakdown before curtain up 🙃 I always want to punch Jamie when he takes photos of me crying but actually I like looking back at them as it helps me see how low I’ve felt and that those feelings are only temporary. It made me realise even more the depth of the issue and the layers of injustice built by the ones with power over the powerless throughout history. It has also made me realise which part I want to play in this story going forward. And that is why I’m sharing these amazing images again. Because I understand now the reason they went viral was not only because they are beautiful, but because there is a great need for inclusiveness in fashion, fantasy and fairytales.” - These words resonate deeply because I have been reminded about the fact that no matter how confident I am in my ability to empathize with other people... my perspective will always be initially influenced by my surroundings, my upbringing, my individual community, and what I am exposed to in life. It is then my responsibility to move forward as I grow, to then expand these narrow circles and to broaden my viewpoint of society through the eyes of others who go through different life experiences. Ultimately, the goal to build bridges and create further understanding and cooperation with our neighbours and fellow human beings should be one that is shared by everyone throughout life. The journey of understanding should never stop- and the last few days have been a deep window into very human and raw experiences that have also exposed great injustices and tribulations done to our fellow man. Taking the time to gain perspective and listening to black voices in the last few days has been very effective in expanding my worldview. Thank you to those who have used their voice to educate.
