Our community is hurting today. 💔 One of the greatest athletes of all time & the reason why so many of us even picked up a ball in the first place. I had a #8 Kobe tee with him shooting a fadeaway jumper on the front that I LOVED. My stat line then was 0 points / 5 fouls per game, but it didn’t matter. I still thought I could be Kobe. Fast forward to early on in my sports career, where to my disbelief, I got to chop it up & watch a Leafs game with him. Sometimes when you meet someone you look up to in person, the magic goes away. The exact opposite happened. Even then, he was way ahead of his time & we spoke a ton about the women’s basketball movement & he left me with so many pieces of wisdom that I’ll hold on to forever. After that, again to my disbelief, whenever they came back into town he always took the time to say what’s up & without fail, asked me every time “You made it to the top yet?” Watching him over the last few years enjoy his retirement & enjoy being a father & husband has actually been one of the dopest versions of Kobe to date. Every single person in our NBA community & the basketball community as a whole, has a story about how Kobe impacted them in one way or another. Watching our guys & many others around the league go out there today with heavy hearts & tears in their eyes is something that will be burned into my mind forever. The basketball community never ceases to amaze me - as we mourn the loss of Kobe, Gigi & the others who lost their lives, I also know we’ll rally around and send all of our love, support & resources to the families they leave behind. I was asked by my client the other day how I got into my career path in fitness and I started thinking back... - I dated someone for 6 years through high school and college and when we parted ways I got serious about my life choices. I hit it really hard for quite a few years and I I fell in love with fitness. Then one day I found myself in front of this opportunity to go on a reality tv series on the @history channel called “The Selection” where special forces warriors (navy seals, army rangers, green berets) took myself and 29 others through a special forces selection process. It was extremely humbling 😅 I definitely did not make it through the entire thing... haha after the tear gas, insanely long never ending evolutions, unbelievably hot PT workouts and freezing cold surfs, no sleep barely any food stuff got to me....I went home back to my corporate desk job and realized something. Like damn bro. How did they pick me out of all people to do that?! I knew I had more inside of me and I wanted to share it with others. So I kept pursuing fitness and one day moved to Austin, TX and the rest is history. See what I did there 😂 #puns - I had an idea in my head of who I wanted to become. I made a choice and didn’t look back. I’m so happy that I listen to my own intuitions and followed my heart. JAbu- came in very dog reactive/aggressive. Very stimulated and on high alert for everything. This is progress after a few hard working weeks. He is able to go for a walk and see another dog and not react. He is more focused on the trainer and cares less about zoning in on the dog.
