He established Courts of Justice, introduced system of revenue settlement and re-organizing all the state departments.Further, he developed infrastructure of the state by introducing telegraphs, railways (Jodhpur State Railway), and developing roads. He formed Imperial Service Cavalry Crops, which later rendered active service in European War. He was honored and created the Knight Grand Commander of the Most Exalted Order of the Star of India in 1875. The Jaswant Thada is an architectural landmark located in Jodhpur. As we waited for our tire to be replaced, I watched the human family trying to harvest the crop, racing against time as the monkeys ate the crop. The humans threw rocks at the monkeys to try and shoo them away, and the monkeys threw the rocks right back at the humans. Today is #nationalhandloomday and a few days ago, the government of India abolished the 70 year old All India Handicrafts Board and the All India Handloom Board as part of ‘Minimum Government and Maximum Governance’ initiative. A sizeable number of Indians are employed in the handloom and handicrafts sector. I don’t know what the implications of this move will be. I can only attest to and request of you the following: If you must, then please purchase handmade and handwoven. It needn’t be sarees or garments. Handwoven and handmade products need patronage. This is the only profession where age and experience put you at a disadvantage. Weaving and using the loom erode ones eyesight while demanding extreme precision. So, please buy consciously so that such art is able to sustainably survive. Try and buy directly from weavers if you can. If that is not feasible then learn about the maker of your clothes so that they are not cheated of whatever price one puts on their labour of love. Recycle old clothes as much as possible. Good quality handloom has great endurance. Wear them till you wear them! Buying preloved clothes is perfectly acceptable. There are many sellers in old, quaint markets who sell preloved handmade/handwoven. Instead of a trip to the mall, consider spending a day with them. I assure you, you’ll not be disappointed. If you have ever watched a saree being made, you will know that what you buy off the market is in effect priceless. The pandemic has hit the handloom market hard so if you have a few moments and pennies to spare and do not feel like a purchase, please donate to initiatives that are looking after weaving clusters. Those who make magic out of nothing need your help. P.S: Image is a throwback. And saree in the image is borrowed indefinitely from the mater’s cupboard. A beautiful black khadi cotton in all its gentle heft with block print in moss green and white all over. Madurai Shanmukhavadivu Subbulakshmi (M. S. Subbulakshmi) was a prominent Indian Carnatic singer and musician from Madhurai, Tamil Nadu. She was the first ever musician to recieve the lauded Bharat Ratna - Indias highest civilian honour. In addition to being a celebrated singer and a classical veenai player Subbulakshmi also starred in several films. Her first film Sevasadanam in 1938 was set in a contemporary social setting and was an advocate to reformist social policies. Prominant film critic Aranthai Narayanan stated that the film was a turning point in Tamil cinema. In the climax, the husband was shown casting aside with contempt his sacred thread,, which symbolises Brahmin superiority. It came as a stunning blow to the then Bramin orthodoxy. Subbulakshmi also played a male role in Savitri (1941) to raise money for the launch of her husbands Tamil weekly news paper called Kalki. The Birth Of The First Child Ketika itu situasi dalam negeri termasuk di Riau relatif kondusif oleh karna perjanjian gencatan senjata dengan Belanda, sehingga DIP masih berkesempatan mendampingi istrinya melahirkan putri pertama yang ia beri nama Katherin, lahir pada 8 Juli 1947. Dua pekan kemudian keadaan berubah, ini disebabkan karna Belanda secara licik melanggar perjanjian gencatan senjata dengan melancarkan serangan militer ke beberapa wilayah republik pada 21 Juli 1947 (dikenal sebagai Agresi Militer Belanda I), tidak menutup kemungkinan Pekanbaru akan diserang juga. Atas situasi itu DIP mengungsikan istri dan bayinya ke Bangkinang. Mama harus mengungsi karna Bapak mau berperang. Kata DIP Hanya bersama sopir dan bayi katherin, Marieke menuju Bangkinang. Malang betul, kendaraan mereka rusak dari siang sampai pagi berikutnya terjebak di tengah hutan, sunyi dan gelap, dari kejauhan Marieke sudah melihat harimau berkeliaran, sambil terus mendekap Katherin ia berdoa. Di Bangkinang beberapa hari, rupanya Pekanbaru tidak diserang Belanda, sehingga Marieke kembali ke Pekanbaru. Namun, Pandjaitan suaminya tetap disibukkan dengan tugas menyusun rencana operasi dari Komandan Resimen IV berhari-hari siang dan malam ia memikirkan strategi² untuk pertahanan resimen IV, buah pemikirannya itu disetujui dan dijadikan Instruksi Operasi No.1 Tahun 1947.
