Am letzten Wochenende hatten wir die Möglichkeit legal in die Schutzräume eines ehemaligen Großbetriebes in Magdeburg abzutauchen und uns dort eine vollständig erhaltene Telefonzentrale anzusehen. Es war spannend als der Eigentümer das dicke Schlüsselbund raus holte, die Tür nach Jahren das erste mal öffnete, wir uns durch die dicken Spinnweben kämpften..... ;-) Im 2. Weltkrieg wurden die Keller des Betriebes zu Luftschutz- und Splitterschutzräumen umgebaut, zu Zeiten der DDR blieb der Charakter weitestgehend erhalten. Hier die ersten Bilder..... We were delighted to see the residents in Pencoed Care Home in Saundersfoot, Wales keeping the spirit of IRONMAN alive when they completed their own backyard IRONMAN. They competed with each other in three races, swimming, cycling and running which is no mean feat when you are in your 80s and 90s! Bill’s hair salon has been the shining light at the end of Hill Street for ten years today, not quite how he envisioned celebrating but no doubt there’ll be a toast in there today! . You are guaranteed to see Bill through the window styling hair and making his clients feel amazing inside and out and give you the biggest wave if he spots you walk by. . He is one of the most caring, thoughtful, kind souls I know and that’s not even going into his creative genius with a set of scissors! . I’m very fortunate that I actually trained with Bill at Queens PEC for easily 10 years without fail at 6.30am ... bonding over shoulder injuries and resistance bands or as Bill put it, ‘his ladies knicker elastics!’ 😄 If someone has you in stitches at that hour of the day and takes the time to ask you how things are then I count myself extremely fortunate to have a friend like him in my life. . It’s so upsetting to see Hill Street so quiet at the moment due to Covid, it obviously has had a knock on effect for not only the bars and restaurants but also long-standing businesses like @billharrishairdressing and @establishedcoffee who rely on the community of the local office trade and passers by. . I look forward to the day when we see this beautiful street full of life again and for events like @culturenightbel where Bill totally opened up his salon to the crowds with live bands and DJs, if anyone knew how to party it was Bill. These days his mission on a Sunday morning is to reach that sticky bun first after cycling a crazzzzy amount of miles to enjoy it with his legendary cycling pals. That’s what you call stamina and a thirst for life; he pours everything he has into his salon all week and then up at the crack of dawn cycling through the countryside on his day off. You’re a true inspiration Bill! . We do need to be so careful in keeping ourselves and our families safe but we also need to support these businesses if we want to see them when we reach the other side of this bizarre world we’re currently living in. . Little know fact...I tossed my hat into the acting ring once. I was living in Italy my senior year @ NYU and the legendary #WoodieKingJr called and said that he had a roll for me to play. I explained that I was living my best life in Italy and that I wasn’t an actress. He told me the one and only #RonMilner had written this role and it could only be played by me. If you you know Woodie than you know no one says no to the King. So back to NY I went to do my very first Off-Broadway play. The more I thought about it the more excited I became. I remember going into our first table read, nervous but ready and fam, when I tell you I was HORRIBLE, I was horrible! Inexperienced, anxious, overwhelmed, you name it! I just knew I was going to tank the whole production. Seeing how nervous I was my co-star (new to the game as well) held my hand under the table and whispered: “Deep breaths....you got this sis” and he never stop holding my hand for the whole run. He was magic, he captivated, he held space, he was generous and funny. He was hardworking and humble. He was so protective and pensive. A thinker. He was like watching a master class in acting. He was a force to be reckoned with. He was Chadwick Aharon Boseman. We were babies. I knew that show was the end for me in terms of acting but everyone who witness Chad’s gift knew it was just the beginning and that the sky was the limit. Over the years whenever we would see each other he would hold my hand. And ask: “you good Sis? I’m not one to voice my opinion on social media. Mainly because I don’t know who I’m talking to, and feel as though I’m speaking into an echo chamber. BUT, SEEING THIS ON FRONT PAGES TODAY IS INFURIATING . It shows exactly why the protests need to GROW NOT SLOW. The importance of our lives today in Britain, even following the unprecedented turn out yesterday, can be seen when compared to the distraction piece following a case 13 years ago which has sucked millions. All this whilst unpaid volunteers are passed on the job of the police for dealing with complaints of racism and harassment. Most of these will go uncharged, let alone prosecuted. Resulting in the very least mental, if not physical, harm to the victims. This is in a left wing newspaper. The protests aren’t even given an inch in the mail. Er dette en diskusjon som hører hjemme i 2020? Det Norske Selskab, klubben for Norges maktelite, viser ingen interesse for å åpne for kvinnelige medlemmer. Jeg mener dette er problematisk ettersom det belyser en del holdninger som finnes blant Norges maktelite. I tillegg er det noe merkverdig at flere som fremmer mangfold og likestilling på sine arbeidsplasser er med i klubben som holder kvinner utenfor. Denne debatten dreier seg ikke om det Norske Selskab isolert sett. Debatten og selskapet har blitt et bilde på den utfordringen kvinner står overfor i norsk næringsliv. Medlemmene i Det Norske Selskab er godt representert i norsk næringsliv. De er viktige rollemodeller og deres holdninger og væremåte sprer rundt seg. Folk med makt enten gjennom penger eller posisjoner har et enda større ansvar for å tilrettelegge for mangfold og inkludering. 27 kvinner med ulike bakgrunner har i helgen skrevet et innlegg rundt dette. Nå ønsker vi flere signaturer, fra både kvinner og menn.
