Billy Dufala is a Philadelphia based artist/musician engaged in a wide variety of creative disciplines. He is a co-founder and Director of Residencies at RAIR, an artist residency located at Revolution Recovery, a construction and demolition waste recycling facility in northeast Philadelphia. RAIR’s mission is to challenge the perception of waste culture by providing a unique platform for artists at the intersection of art and industry. Billy is also known for his ongoing collaborative work with his brother, Steven, as the Dufala Brothers. The brothers create drawings, prints, sculpture, performance, music and design. Nothing big but something I was very happy to do 🙌. Attending my grandmothers funeral in Utah last weekend and saw my 90+ year old grandfather’s broken up walkway that he uses every week. He’s a very stubborn man and doesn’t want anyone to do anything for him but he allowed my dad, my brother & I to patch this up for him. Before hand, he would struggle with walking around the broken up concrete. Now he is able to scoot straight through 👍. Verder zijn er verschillende picknicktafels, schuilhutten en een zitarena. Op verschillende plaatsen liggen takken of houten palen waar kinderen bijvoorbeeld hutten mee kunnen bouwen. En er is zand, veel zand! Er is een deels verharde wandelroute van ongeveer 2km die je langs al deze interessante plekjes leidt. Er is ook een kortere, verharde wandelroute van ongeveer 800m. Langs het pad zijn uit hout gesneden dieren verstopt. Tip: zoek de metalen plaatjes😉 Aan de ingang van het joekelbos kan je langs de kant van de straat parkeren (Waze: Speeltuinstraat, Oudsbergen) en er is een kleine parking voozien. Nun geht es unter strenger Beachtung der aktuellen Hygiene-Vorgaben wieder los. Auf dem Programm stehen Erkundungen und Entdeckungen in der Umgebung mit Lagerbau und Werkeln, Spiel und Spaß. „Die Kindergruppen sind als langfristiges Angebot für einheimische Kinder ein Schwerpunkt unserer Bildungsarbeit und liegen uns ganz besonders am Herzen“, erklärt Julia Herzog vom Sachgebiet Umweltbildung der Nationalparkverwaltung. „Gerade die Kinder haben in den vergangenen Monaten auf Vieles verzichten müssen. Das unbeschwerte Draußen sein gemeinsam mit anderen Kindern ist ein wichtiger Ausgleich zum Lern-Alltag, der mit dem Schulanfang wieder begonnen hat und in Corona-Zeiten vermutlich noch herausfordernder wird als zuvor.“ Aus diesem Grund sollen die Gruppenstunden ab Oktober 2020 wieder im gewohnten wöchentlichen Rhythmus stattfinden. Research and development is an integral part of what growing grains should be about. Regenerative agriculture practices set in an organic system is key to creating a balanced healthy soil, which in turn creates a healthy eco system. This is the rabbit hole that @turloughkeenan and myself have gone down and I’m not sure where it will take us, but it’s both fascinating and damn exciting to see the development from where we started with a few grams of grains to the present biodiversity on the farm. All this work is of course made easier when you have machines as aides to assist in the sowing, harvesting, drying and cleaning of the different crops, of which cereals are just a part. Cover crops are essential in building balance, which is the next step in the system, harvesting and saving seeds from this process. We’re fortunate to have learned so much about farming and machines from an early age, which makes all of this possible plus a good dash of enthusiasm and maybe a sprinkling of determination in there too! the first succession of winter vegetables has been planted. Broccoli, Cauliflower & Cabbage all interplanted with garlic. Leek, kohlrabi, Radish, Beetroot and turnips. All composted with compost from our chicken system and mulched with our own hay. We will continue with similar plantings every two weeks so we have a nice succession of vegetables through winter and spring. This week we are also doing a large broad bean & an onion planting. In the next few weeks, we will also start larger garlic and pea plantation.
