Four years ago while working on renovations at @market.hotel I asked them if they’d ever consider hosting some sort of vegan pop-up. They said if we wanted to do it they would be happy to have us use the space. When I got home from work that day Laura and I had a discussion and figured we’d give it a try. We began tracking down our favorite local vendors to see who would be interested in giving us a chance. Once we had our line-up secured we started spreading the word in hopes of getting all of you folks to show up. That’s how VGN MKT was born. That first event was a success and because of all of you, @vgnmkt continued to thrive and grow. Now with Covid-19 putting a hold on all gatherings we’re not sure when and how we will be back. Rest assured that when we can all get together again we will. Things will be different, that’s for sure. One big change for us is that we are moving out of town. We are heading down South to live in the mountains outside of Asheville. Yep, that’s a big change! Once things are up and running we are planning to come back to Brooklyn and hold events on a semi-regular basis. Hopefully we’ll also be able to bring some of our NYC friendors down to Asheville for future events. Who knows what the future holds? Big thanks to @rvzparis and @samrenollet En 1991, à la chute de l’Union soviétique, la région du Haut-Karabagh proclame son indépendance en se détachant de l‘Azerbaïdjan au prix d’une guerre sanglante. Un fragile cessez-le-feu est signé en 1994. Le village de Talish a toujours été une ligne de front. A deux kilomètres de la frontière, il est le haut lieu de la guerre d’indépendance livrée à l’Azerbaïdjan. Le village et ses environs sont restés, depuis l’armistice de 1994, le théâtre d’accrochages réguliers. C’est ici que l’on compte le plus grand nombre de dégâts humains et matérie Malheureusement des affrontements éclatent régulièrement le long de la frontière. Avec cette série je souhaite faire le portrait de ces hommes et de ces femmes pris dans les limbes d’une guerre sans fin. KOLMANSKOP, NAMIBIA I first discovered this deserted diamond mining village in the mid 90’s and felt that I could spend up to 3 or 4 days here but sadly only had 1 day on that occasion. One of the most pleasing things about Kolmanskop that everything there was about departure and it was being taken over by sand drifts caused by high winds ripping through the village. Gaitero de fiesta* Av. 23 de mayo / São Paulo, Brasil / 2019 Proyecto de @vertigograffiti : @ecksmdc @yurikamdc @wordmdc Este extraño instrumento que en su esencia corporal se devela el cactus, con una boquilla de cera de abeja y carbón, que al soplar un pitillo hecho de pluma de pato, logra detonar las más ínfimas melodías. Para mí, no hay sonido más sublime que el de una gaita: la fuerza del viento que baja de la montaña atravesando un pedazo de madera. Una tradición dirigida intencionalmente al festejo, a acompañarnos con música en comunidad; con el tiempo, estos vientos se fueron mezclando con la tierra mestiza, la raza afrodescendiente y su fuerte palpitar retumbando en tambores, de este encuentro tan intimo y sublime se crea esa cumbia autóctona, esa cumbia cruda, de campo, untada de montañas y ríos, campesinos queriendo trinar como aves. Estos sonidos tradicionales de la cumbia, cuentan historias y rumoran leyendas de gaiteros, poetas y talentosos personajes Sanjacinteros que con sus abarcas, su pañuelo rojo y su inolvidable alegría viajaron por el mundo. Un gran homenaje visual que se la hace a la gaita y a sus actores, gaiteros de todos los tiempos, personajes y ritmos de Colombia, festejos y alegrías que compartimos con otras culturas. Este llamado se extiende desde una rueda de cumbia en el mágico pueblo de San Jacinto, hasta en una manifestación ideológica en la capital, el poder de su interpretación nos acoge y trasciende cualquier frontera. Desde estos viejos gaiteros que van dejando este espacio terrenal, hasta los nuevos músicos que mantienen su pasión por interpretar este instrumento, esto va con mucho amor para todos ellos, esta es la respuesta visual a toda esta tradición. Seguiremos festejando, seguiremos transformando esta a alegría en obras monumentales. With more than 160,000 coronavirus cases, Peru’s capital city of Lima 🇵🇪 is one of the hardest-hit urban centres in South America. Preventive lockdown measures have brought the informal economy to a halt and many have lost their jobs, plummeting them into poverty. . 🇻🇪 Venezuelan migrants and refugees living in Peru are among the most affected. Families had to cut down on food, often eating just once a day, never enough and never well. They suddenly found themselves lost, jobless, hungry, and at the mercy of anxiety, a situation too similar to the one they had fled in Venezuela. . The EU is funding @actioncontrelafaim in Peru to help the most exposed to these hard times. The assistance includes psychological support and the distribution of hygiene kits in support of coronavirus preventive measures. These kits have been put together following beneficiaries’ suggestions, so that they could be better tailored to their needs. . With EU humanitarian funding, the NGO also coordinates food distribution in a network of shelters where many Venezuelan migrants and refugees live.
