Clean-up time! We love our oceans and beaches here in Hawaii and its our kuleana (responsibility) to protect them. Pollution in the ocean and onshore is a growing threat to many native species including the beloved honu (green sea turtle) and the ‘Īlioholoikauaua (Hawaiian monk seal). The International Coastal Cleanup started over 30 years ago to fight the growing pollution problem. Last year alone, over 1 million worldwide volunteers collected over 23 million pounds of trash. In March Plastics Industry Association president and CEO Tony Radoszewski wrote; “As the COVID-19 virus spreads across the country, single-use plastics will only become more vital. We live longer, healthier, and better because of single-use plastics.” . Now, to be clear, we are in no way excusing the inexcusable devastation that people caused to our beaches and beauty spots this week. We just reckon that others have the shocked and outraged angle pretty well covered. Were interested in root causes and sustainable solutions. . Make no mistake the plastics (aka OIL) industry view the Covid 19 pandemic as an opportunity and they bloody love it when we heap 100% of the blame on the evil litterbug. And whilst were distracted theyre slyly dismantling hard fought gains in single use plastic legislation across the world and disseminating discredited science about the dangers of reusables. . SEE YOU TOMORROW 🙌⁠ ⁠ Our Premium Surf Coaching Weekend in Newquay kicks off tomorrow and we cant wait! 🌊⁠ ⁠ Some of you may be travelling down to Newquay today and getting settled before the weekend, here are some tips to help you prepare: ⁠ ⁠ 1️⃣ Pack and prep all your gear the night before. Remember extra snugly and lose clothing. You can then roll out of bed and come join us for a fresh cuppa coffee.⁠ ⁠ 2️⃣ If youre driving down, make sure you have a plan for where to park and some spare coins for parking meters/download the JustPark Ap. (Refer to pre-weekend email)⁠ ⁠ 3️⃣ Have a gentle stretch. Its good to relieve any muscle tension and get your mobility going for the day ahead. It will also help relax, destress and improve the quality of your sleep too. ⁠ ⁠ 4️⃣ Pack some good snacks which will give you plenty of energy.⁠ ⁠ 5️⃣ Get a good nights sleep!⁠ Getting a lungful at the beach will help you to sleep better. This is because sea air is full of negative hydrogen ions, charged particles abundant in sea spray and concentrated in the fresh air, which improves our ability to absorb oxygen by neutralising damaging free radicals (positive ions).⁠ ⁠ 6️⃣ Put water resistant suncream on ☀️ (we have some @sunzapper for you too)⁠ ⁠ 7️⃣ RELAX!⁠ We’ve got a really good weekend + week ahead, super chilled, fun and revitalising!
