Last December, we put this site online which took about 6 months of work behind it. We had made up our mind to want to complete the experience of eating ice cream with sound. This is why we involved @alessioballerini who recorded the sounds of the ice cream shop and translated them into a modular music suite divided into sections. The guys at @qzrstudio helped us (thanks @iamggrafix) who translated the thoughts and graphics on the site. Well. Too often assumptions are made making it very hard to deliver on deadlines. Just because it sounds easy, or not a big deal while no insight information is known. If no experience, the best to communicate with the desired team gathering arguments on how long itll take. This will be the first Movietone release in almost 17 years, and only 250 copies will be made. Each will come with a facsimile of the original The Kitting Factory flyer, and full liner notes by Kate Wright. The original approved sketch for Logics no pressure album cover. Took time to figure out how to unravel the scene I wanted to make but unlearning & relearning aspects of perspective/light/color to get there I genuinely enjoyed. Something I actually hadnt felt with painting for awhile. Have been stupidly lucky, getting to run from ever-escalating client to client/bag to bag over the years drawing pictures, but over time that infectious tingle of curiosity for how to accomplish certain things I couldnt in a painting began to get more and more sidelined to keep up. Having a project that ended up being a literal dismantling and dissection of every piece of an older painting (ok thats the sofa but how do I make it float) was this perfect challenge. It began as me cynically feelin like oh good, back to the basement for another cover and ended with that magic fucking galaxy melting feeling of knowing absolutely nothing, living in that sense of being an absolute baby in order to get honest enjoyment out of learning again. Its just real fuckin nice to have that little light back, that feeling of growth and curiosity that if your vision narrows and youre hitting all the primary metrics of success, can start to take a back seat when you already have everything (you think) you want. I received one note the whole process from bob: to add his newborn son to the picture frame. Album is a beautiful send off and out now. - @samspratt on Instagram

Sitting on an island writing a review about a book about islands... This book by Lisa T. Bascomb will be reviewed in CBQ (Communication Booknotes Quarterly). The island nation of Barbados in the Caribbean is smaller than Guam and through popular and national discourse they make a global impact according to In Plenty and in Time. The title is drawn from the Barbados national anthem and the word plenty seems to be a popular phrase throughout island communities, including here in the Marianas and Micronesia, a cool reference to the abundance of the small but rich land, perhaps. So lyrically things become positive due to their plentifulness or just plenty. The book covers the popular construction of a Barbadian national identity through performances and popular texts by artists such as Mighty Gabby, Alison Hinds, Rupee, and Rihanna.
