Measuring just 6 ½ by 8 ⅜ inches,`Abraham and the Angels’ is a profoundly beautiful, gem-like painting on panel that stands among the finest works by #Rembrandt ever to come to auction. Of the total 136 biblical paintings Rembrandt produced, the present work is one of only five remaining in private hands, with the large majority in prominent museum collections. Among these biblical paintings, only 29 depict Old Testament scenes, with the present panel representing one of only two examples in private collections. Painted in 1646, during an emotionally-turbulent yet highly productive period of his life, ‘Abraham and the Angels’ depicts the precise moment when God, the principal source of light in the scene, reveals to Abraham that his elderly wife Sarah will bear him a son, Isaac, within a year. In addition to being one of the most well-documented paintings by Rembrandt in existence, this work also boasts an impeccable provenance, nearly unbroken from the year after its execution to the present day. Unseen on the market for more than 150 years, Rembrandt’s biblical masterpiece will come to auction in #NewYork as one of the highlights of our Masters Week sales in January 2021. “‘The Healing of Palladia’ resonates with me at this moment not because of its beauty or quality, but rather because it reminds me that in the Renaissance, just as now, artists were deeply tied to local networks of family, friends, and neighbors. And it was the devotional rituals and social customs of these communities to which Fra Angelico and his contemporaries responded when they applied paint to panel. Now more than ever, the painting leads me to reflect on what we owe each other as members of our own local, national, and global communities. The answers—respect, care, kindness, safety, and equality, for a start—are what have driven our collective actions over the past few months: the decision to wear masks when we leave our homes, to isolate when we feel sick, to gather in protest against violence and racial injustice. As we set out on the road to recovery, Fra Angelico reminds me that the ties that bind us in times of crisis thrive only if they are recognized, valued, and reinforced every day.” Visit the link in our bio to read more about Fra Angelico’s “The Healing of Palladia by Saint Cosmas and Saint Damian” (c. 1438/1440) in a new blog post by Rachel E. - Who was Eise Eisenga and what made him build the oldest still working planetarium in the world? It was the prediction of a priest in 1774 that the apocalypse was near due to celestial body alignment. That drove Eisenga to build it. The priest caused a turmoil and Eise was able to put that to rest.

Nepoleon was killed using chemicals⁉️🕵️ . .@science_fact_hunter . Some historians have argued that he died from cancer, others that the British poisoned him, while a third theory is that his death was accidentally hastened by toxic vapours from wallpaper dyed with arsenic. Scheele’s green (copper arsenite) was discovered in 1778 by Karl Scheele, a Swedish chemist. Like the IKEA home furnishings of today, it was cheap and vibrant in colour and became extremely popular in the manufacture of a wide range of home goods in homes of all levels of wealth. Napoleons illness and death on St Helena have been the subject of controversy. His symptoms have been compared with those of arsenic poisoning1–3, and arsenic has been found in surviving samples of his hair4–8. During the nineteenth century, many people were accidentally poisoned by arsenical vapours from wallpaper9–11. Accordingly, it is an intriguing speculation that Napoleon may have ingested arsenic from his wallpaper. After presenting this speculation on a radio broadcast, one was offered an original sample of wallpaper from Napoleons residence on St Helena. It reported that X-ray fluorescence measurements on this paper reveal enough arsenic to be capable of causing illness but probably not death. So if Napoleon was poisoned by arsenic, it may have come not from deliberate administration but from his wallpaper. . #science_fact_hunter #fact #scientist #science #chemistry #chemistrylab #chemichal #french #france #napoleon #revelution #histiory #britsh #murder #accident #news #arguments #auction #instagram #study #student - @knowlage_gram on Instagram
