Have many things to say 🚨 First, call everyone in your life and make sure they are registered to vote, NOT voting for Trump, and are mailing their ballots as soon as they arrive to their house. Confession: I didn’t vote in 2016 though I had voted in every other presidential election that I could I felt too torn to vote and left it up to fate to decide. I also couldn’t imagine a reality star, idiot with no political education or know how would be elected. I remember the night the results were read, @laurafama and I watched in complete horror. The next day felt like I was in the twilight zone. I felt such guilt. Not this year. When someone asks me who I’m voting for I’m there to say “not Trump”. I’m armed to have the conversation and im on fire to tell people why he’s a racist, bigot, sexual predator, that doesn’t believe in science, and has divided our nation. I have to touch on this in particular. Women should have access to abortions. Straight up you love someone whose had an abortion. You gonna tell them “they are hateful human being and murders” because of that? A women’s right to choose dies with Trump. These are our bodies get your mind off MY uterus. I bring up this point in particular because I’ve personally heard good, compassionate people push this agenda as a reason to vote for him. As if this stance is the most important thing to note. No.. You’re that against abortion that you will literally vote an earth killing, narcissist who only values the lives of people dropping cash in his pockets? How do caring people rationalize this? Side note: If I have another person over 50 calls me a “dumb millennial” my head is literally going to pop. Since when did caring about equality become a generational difference? We can’t have another 4 years of Trump. This is my PSA and I’ve been making my calls all week. Anyway, pick up the phone this weekend and call everyone. Your grandma, your uncle, your sister, your friends, your old baby sitter, whoever; literally anyone you think that needs that reminder and push. I love you all. Let’s stay educated. Hopeful. Was elated with this news until I heard seconds ago that a car just ran through protestors in times square, while they were out there for Daniel Prude, a Rochester resident who was killed in march by the RPD. That shit hit really close to home. As much as I love sharing my work, my fucking family is out there right now and I just watched a video on twitter of some cop in an undercover car (it has badge plates) almost run over some of my best friends. If you know me, you KNOW this isnt my jam. 🌿 This week could have been chalked up to a series of bad days, so many moments of frustration and crying, but instead, theyre just bad moments. They were bad moments during a normal week that also had good moments. 🌿 A good moment, I finally applied for my Irish Passport! More good moments: Ive woken up consistently before 6, put on mascara, and drank lots of water. 🌿 I still have extremely high expectations - for my productivity, my friendships, my work, and Id be lying if I said it didnt affect me. My current fave is a lavender almond milk iced latte. ⠀ My family - family is everything to me, and this pandemic really highlighted that even more. And I feel like that is something that really comes out in my planning - I want the day to feel magical for you, and your family as well. ⠀ ⠀ Giving back - Being a active member of the community is something that is always been important to me and my husband. I volunteer with @janedoenomore where I am on the outreach board, and my husband is on the board of directors. I also plan on volunteering with @connecticutchildrens, a goal I have made for myself as we approach my sons one year birthday. I believe in finding causes that speak to you, and doing what you can to make a difference, however small it seems. ⠀ ⠀ And to end on a lighter note, Italian food. Really is there anything better than cheese, wine, and pasta? I think not. He is fascinated at the viewfinder’s ability to change the way the world looks; From birds flying in the distance, to the wares carried by hawkers, to birds perched on coconut trees which are prevalent in areas close to the sea where he lived; Mamprobi to be exact. And now part of Straight Line Boutique’s logo. I got this tattoo 4 years ago. The meaning behind it is pretty simple. You can only launch an arrow forward by pulling it back first. When life is pulling you back with difficulties and struggles you are just getting ready to launch into something great. When I first announced SLB there were many difficulties. Team intro Tuesday !! First up, we have our amazing founder and executive director Tracie Léost. A force to be reckoned with, Tracie Léost (Ogitchida Ikwe) is a young Métis leader, activist, and academic from St. Laurent, Manitoba in Treaty 1 Territory and she is the Founder and Executive Director of Waanishka Movement Inc. In 2015, Tracie began leading a global conversation about violence against women. She embarked on the MMIW Journey of Hope, a 115 kilometre run in four days to raise money and awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and Two-Spirit people in Canada. She is a decorated Indigenous athlete, and a young person who takes pride in her community and people. Tracie raises awareness for MMIWG2S, advocates for Indigenous rights and education, she makes safe spaces for young people, and volunteers on community patrol. She coaches baseball, football and hockey with a community program that provides inner-city youth with access to recreation programs by reducing the barriers to participate. Tracie is a Social Work Student at the University of Regina where she holds excellent academic standing and was named one of the Universities most promising undergraduate students. In the spring of 2021, Tracie will become a first generation university graduate and wishes to pursue law next In 2018 Tracie was the recipient of the Indspire Youth Metis Award, the highest honoured bestowed upon Indigenous people. DEFINED MOMENTS✍🏾 the reality is fall is already approaching, daylight is going to shorten, protests are ongoing, black lives are being taken, a pandemic has been ongoing, the news has been overwhelming and lives have been lost. The real question is “How are you?” I have yet to answer this question honestly myself. I’m not okay, I’m consistently worried + anxious, while raising two beautiful black girls. I’ve lost my job and started a business, all while trying to figure out what is happening w/this virus, the opening of schools, + politics and how I can support the BLM movement. It hasn’t been easy but being home has been a blessing for quality time with my girls, connecting with God and strengthening my faith. I really miss getting on a plane and being greeted by my mom, and seeing my family back home in NY. Let’s just say I’ve been feeling lonely in it all and I know you have too. WHY // Lately, I have been approached a lot by people asking me why I don’t just stay positive? Why don’t I go back to just posting recipes and poetry about beautiful moments? Here’s the thing. I started this little page in the universe to share real, raw, magnificent life. Sometimes, that means weeks, months, years of sharing the hard shit. Those who have been with me for a while were my best friends through a time where I lingered between this world and the next. So many of you helped me navigate an illness I didn’t yet understand. Now we are navigating a very scary point in history. We must be vigilant. We must not cease in our pursuit to create a country with new foundations. Ones rooted in justice, equality and care for all beings. I am but a tiny drop in a large ocean, but I will speak. I will share. Not for myself, but for my future children. For your future children. For the animals who are hurting from human choices. For a planet that I love with my whole damn heart. For Breonna. For Sandra. For Elijah. For George. For Emmit. For Tamir. For every life taken with brutality by a system that claims to protect. The choices we make right now will impact generations to come. This is my why. Do I still cook and create recipes? I do. Do I believe food is its own revolution? I do. I am also still writing poetry, though my voice has shifted, become less soft, more sturdy. I’m still here. Creating. Living day to day. But right now, I feel called to share this itty bitty corner of the internet with not just my voice, but voices more important than my own. I want to share BIPOC poets and creators, leaders and movers. I want to share decolonized food. I want to share companies making a difference for the planet. If you live on the Olympic Peninsula and haven’t met my sister I’d be surprised because at this point her impact is touching so many people 😍 But for those of you who maybe don’t live there, or by some chance don’t know her yet, this is a girl you need to know 💕 Here’s some quick reasons why: 1) This girl is heavily educated in and a huge advocate for the orphan community. How many of you would be shocked to here there is an estimated 140 million orphans, today, waiting for their homes. She is constantly pouring her heart into this world and bringing people to know more about this issue 2) Chelsea spent 6 years working for A Family For Every Orphan getting to know, experience, and help families during the process of adoption from several different countries and also went so far as to live in India, not once, but twice so she could invest herself into learning about the orphan crisis first hand. She fills her adorable store front and online shop with ethically sourced goods/clothing from all over the world. Some are fair trade, some eco friendly, but the point is she is doing the damn thing when it comes to educating people on why what they buy matters so much. And helping create a culture around sustainability and give back brands that are really building up homes and lives rather than corporations. But it gets even better guys, this girl donates 50% of ALL profits to help the Orphan crisis. This is seriously the tip of the ice berg with her. She also is a new mom of 2 (one adopted last year and one she birthed herself all within a few months of each other) talk about superwoman am I right?! She is also a cat mom, plant lady and also breaking the stigma of motherhood and mental health by sharing her journey as a mama 🌿🐱 The point is, she’s rad.
