Me vejo ofertando esses peixes. Amarro-os em minha pele, sentindo as escamas a cortarem e a pressão dos corpos dificultarem a minha respiração. Permaneço imóvel até esquecer dos sentidos que residem em mim. Meu pescoço treme com o que ofereço, percebo que a carne quando fora do seu lugar, pesa e com tempo se decompõe. O cheiro se intensifica a cada pássaro que se aproxima, em outras condições, eles já teriam os devorado, mas a quentura do meu corpo os afasta. Por mim eu nadaria em águas, não acredito na natureza dessa oferta, mas quando a maré tá baixa é difícil de se caminhar pela terra debaixo do rio, o chão gruda nos pés enquanto sinto minha boca seca pedindo pela cheia. Me acostumo em não ver pelos olhos, em sentir meus lábios racharem. O sol que senti em minha pele do lado direito, já sinto estar em cima de mim. Questiono o porquê da ação. Penso em como a cabeça, peixe e rio se relacionam de diferentes formas para cada corpo que os encontra. Sinto perder minha cabeça no rio e encontrar outras. Me vejo ofertando esses peixes. Tento achar formas de não precisar ofertar. Busco compreender a malícia em negociar. O cheiro se intensifica. Mushroom Bloom 2020 is my most recently completed painting that is apart of the Vision Train’s first virtual exhibition which is on view till Oct. 1st - link in Bio🍄 It is one of the first paintings I started working on during the early days of the Non-Stop Vision Train Global Art Jam. The Corona Virus appeared in the middle and mushrooms started to sprout out of it one by one until there was a bloom of color representing the renaissance of vision within humanity that would blossom out of this time of the great global pandemic of 2020. Each one of these mushrooms represents one of us as unique blossoms of a mycelial network powerful enough to bring healing and balance if we slow down enough to listen. It is through the full expression of our beauty and originality that we find peace. The foundation of this piece began in the opening circle of the 2019 Mixtek Mystics painting intensive that Joe Bob Merritt and I led at the @chapelofsacredmirrors , NY in October 2019. In late January, when hospitals in the United States confirmed the presence of the novel #coronavirus, health workers knew to watch for precisely three symptoms: fever, cough, and shortness of breath. But as the number of infections climbed, the symptom list began to grow. Some patients lost their sense of smell and taste. Some had nausea or diarrhea. Some had arrhythmias or even heart attacks. Some had damaged kidneys or livers. Some had headaches, blood clots, rashes, swelling, or strokes. Many had no symptoms at all. . When UCSF researchers tested people for SARS-CoV-2 in San Francisco’s Mission District, 53% of those infected never had any symptoms. “That’s much higher than expected,” says Monica Gandhi, MD, MPH, a UCSF professor of medicine with expertise in HIV. Surveys of outbreaks in nursing homes and prisons show similar or even higher numbers. “If we did a mass testing campaign on 300 million Americans right now, I think the rate of asymptomatic infection would be somewhere between 50% and 80% of cases,” Gandhi says. Faster Than the Speed of Light⚡️: New Model Proposes Jets Go Superluminal in Gamma-Ray Bursts. Astrophysicists Jon Hakkila of the College of Charleston and Robert Nemiroff of the Michigan Technological University have published research indicating that blasts that create gamma-ray bursts may actually exceed the speed of light in surrounding gas clouds, but do so without violating Einstein’s theory of relativity. Hakkila and Nemiroff propose that such superluminal jets could create the time-reversibility seen in gamma-ray burst light curves. These proposed jets, however, do not violate Einstein’s theory of relativity because they only move faster than light does through the jet medium, not faster than light through a vacuum. “Standard gamma-ray burst models have neglected time-reversible light curve properties. Superluminal jet motion accounts for these properties while retaining a great many standard model features.” — Jon Hakkila Hakkila says that a good way to visualize this superluminal motion is to imagine someone on one side of a pond skipping a stone across the water in your direction. The frequently-hopping stone moves through the air between hops faster than the waves it generates move through water. Using gene therapy to restore vision to people with an inherited retinal disorder is one of the most exciting achievements in eye research. The one-time treatment for Leber congenital amaurosis uses a harmless virus to deliver healthy copies of a missing gene to the retina. Some young patients have regained vision within weeks after treatment. Despite the miraculous outcomes, ophthalmologist continue to refine their technique for delivering gene therapy to children’s eyes. In the June issue of Ophthalmology Retina, Audina Berrocal, MD, and colleagues show a new technique for gene delivery in children. Here’s a partial description of their technique: After loading the AAV vector syringe onto a 38G/25G Subretinal PolyTip Cannula and purging all air bubbles, the injector was delivered into the subretinal space with a beveled tip. Beveling of the cannula tip was performed with scissors at a 45-degree angle, and the cannula was entered into the subretinal space in a bevel-up fashion. The EVA Phaco-Vitrectomy System with the viscous fluid control system was used for a single-surgeon, foot pedal-controlled linear infusion of the drug. When bleb tension and risks of macular hole formation are deemed too high, more than 1 bleb is recommended. With more than 1 extrafoveal bleb, subretinal delivery began nearer to the arcades but included the macula. In all cases, a total of 300 mL of vector was released (image shows multiple elevated subretinal blebs with a foveal detachment after injection). I was recently commissioned by @canned_beets to create some artwork for their upcoming album. Check them out, theyve got some groovy tunes. I made this by creating the scene in a 3d program and then applying a 5 color halftone using a custom grown fractal pattern. The last 10 days have been some of the most inspiring and tragic as I study trauma. When my psyche really grasps the essence of what I’m studying, an image appears that represents everything I’ve learned as a metaphor, and today, finally, after nearly a month of 4-5 hours a day of reading, doodling, and writing, da image came. If you imagine a human as a 4-dimensional entity (because of language and memory we actually are); you could see their past physically represented behind them and they would look like an odd worm-like creature. The beginning of this 4-dimensional being would be the zygote their parent’s egg and sperm merged to create. As you move along this creature (as you watch this organism advance through time), you’d see the zygote grow into a newborn, that newborn become an infant, and so on. Trauma is a wounding at some point in that 4-dimensional creature’s past, and it is like a splinter in the psyche. In the same way a large splinter lodged deep into your arm will obviously be painful, depending on the depth of the assault, it may inhibit nearby muscles and block joints from moving. If left untreated, the psyche will sever feeling to this area, eventually leading to an infection. The muscles and bones would waste away, and the infection would eat up the body’s resources, eventually affecting the health of the entire organism. This is what trauma is like. To live is to know wounding. As a finite being embedded in infinity, there is no escaping. We may fall off a bike as a 5 year old and break our ankle, we may be bullied, witness divorce, a natural disaster; all these can be traumatic. And then there are what we normally consider traumatic, things that should never happen to children; like physical, emotional, verbal, or sexual abuse. All of us have splinters. To know trauma is human and does not make you broken, unworthy, unloveable, dirty, or damaged; and it can be healed. I’m working on a massive article covering what trauma is, how it happens, and how to heal it. Despite plans to send humans back to the Moon by the year 2024, very little is known about the effects of space radiation the astronauts will be exposed to on a daily basis while bouncing across the lunar surface. A new study is the first to measure exactly how much radiation humans would be exposed to on a daily basis while exploring the Moon in an effort to find ways to mitigate the effects on human health. Ann Arbors City Council unanimously voted Monday to decriminalize psychedelic mushrooms and plants. The resolution makes possession, cultivation, and purchasing of magic psilocybin mushrooms and other entheogenic substances — like ayahuasca, mescaline-containing cacti, and iboga — the lowest priority for local law enforcement.
