Alumna Tiffany Brown, #CAU 05 brings southern charm to NYFW. Tiffany Brown Designs hailing out of Georgia is one of quite a few Black designers to seen on the NYFW Spring Summer 2021 schedule. After several outspoken industry heads spoke out about the lack of Black designers at NYFW, it is a relief to see some new faces. Let us continue to push on. Tiffany Brown brought a bit of that classic southern charm to our New York city streets. The collection featured two iconic colors: pink and green or more specifically Salmon Pink and Apple Green considering CEO and designer Tiffany is an active member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. (AKA). Making their NYFW debut, Tiffany Brown designs featured simplistic yet eye-catching designs. Collection standouts are: This pale pink cardigan paired with forest green Bermuda shorts. A cozy yet chic outfit that can definitely be unisex. This tulle skirt that appears to have a jumpsuit underneath. As a newcomer, Tiffany Brown Designs are able to tell their story in their designs. While I began to set up my camera for a day of shooting I was struck by a figure standing a few feet in front of me. A large man, much taller than myself, dressed in his Sunday best with his hair neatly pulled back into a ponytail. He had one gold earring on. What struck me most, however, was the feeling that he emoted. It was such a powerful energy that immediately put me at ease. I did not know this man, I had never seen him before in my life, and yet, I immediately trusted him. I walked up and asked if he would feel comfortable with me taking his photo. He looked down at me (he was very tall) and said “of course!” I began setting up my shot, he looked into my lens without fear. Once the image was made he asked if I was planning on putting his picture up anywhere. When I said yes he brightened and requested that, if posted, I put his name on the photo. I quickly agreed and asked him if he wanted to give me a statement to go with his name. I tried to type as fast as I could while he spoke (although I do not think I do his words justice), once he finished we laughed for a bit and turned back to the protest. This wonderful man then went on to walk in the front of the protest, settling any disputes between police and activists, and boldly chanting along with the rest of the crowd for over 2 miles. Everybody, I would like you to meet Marco Glorious, “I am elated that there is so much diversity right now. I think change is long overdue and I am honored to be peacefully protesting. I would do this every day if I could. Everyday until we reached true equality.
