They represent the innocence and purity that has been restored to the soul of the departed. In this piece, I have thus given Yesterday a body that grieves deaths, a ghost of the past. Yesterday begins with a sunrise and ends right before the following; Ive thus shown a string of Yesterdays walking in a time that existed before the present. The more the bloodshed that occurred that day, the redder her dress. The hands that each Yesterday is tied to belong to the people that either lost their lives that day or their loved ones. So the hands can touch their respective yesterdays only because they are trapped in that time. I was inspired to write this piece during meditation and quickly thought of humanity. I’ve always wanted to create in a way that would allow the words from my heart to reach the heart of another. Because the way we may view the world, another may not view the same. But what if we were blind? What if we were deaf? If we didn’t wake up today with that which we can neglect. How will we truly see the world? Sometimes those that can see, are blind. And sometimes those that can hear, are deaf. Seeing from our eyes is easy. Less truly means more. An empty mind opens up more opportunities for the heart to be full. I’ve learned to let go of many things in my life. Drugs, addictions, violence, bad habits, detrimental thoughts. Even the everyday things we own such as clothes and material possessions. Sometimes it’s not about having anything at all, but rather not allowing these things to own or control you, so that there is room to see the many beautiful gifts that lie right in front of you. Being free of myriad things, and the world seems more luminous like the moon shining its light upon water. But how can the moon reflect its light on a body of water if the water is not clear? in the event of an emergency // this poem, in the new book, was actually written about two years ago. it is after a Sarah Kay poem of the same title. it is, to me, not as beautiful as the one it is after, but it is true. i loved writing this. & while i may not be able to do what this poem actually says, i love that these words can honor the parts of me that i know matter to others. my mother once told me,when i was 9 or 10 years old, that she loved my smile& that she wished i smiled more. i have never forgotten the way she said it, and the sound of her voice. my father is always asking me to speak louder, so my voice is his. my 12th grade English teacher, Linda, reminded me that i loved poetry, & it was during her class that i rediscovered this medium that has become an essential part of who i am. & i could go on and on, telling you about all the people and places that make up who i am. but this poem is quite self-explanatory. ❤️ - @gabywrites on Instagram

Old patterns do not give up easily. They will try to keep pulling you into reactions that lead to past behavior. But in time, after not feeding them for a while and continually practicing your ability to pause and respond, they weaken and become easier to let go. They may still appear as an option occasionally, but they do not have the same strength as before. This is the turning point, the shift that changes everything, the leap forward you have been waiting for, the victory where it becomes clear that you have moved beyond the past and into a new life where you have matured enough to intentionally be your own person. Vipassana meditation has helped me deeply with letting go, but I know that different things work for different people. Every individual has unique conditioning. I cant remember which poem I saw the other day, but it included a line about the whispering wind, which led to the inspiration of this poem. The ending of my poem was also inspired by a book I read earlier this year by Patrick Rothfuss, titled The Name Of The Wind. I feel like were all on a search to find our own wind. After childhood, we set off eager to explore the world and to go find ourselves, whatever that may mean. However, the wind is fickle and blows whichever way, and we chase it till were exhausted. We may have to go through the deepest seas and the highest mountains, but ironically the answer always seems to be within. Whether its returning our literal roots or figuratively looking within ourselves, this so called name of the wind, aka the answers we are searching for, arent in some far away place but within our grasp the whole time. The trick is that it takes the journey to figure it out. ive been deep in a journey of self-discovery for the past few years, and for a while i think i felt like i was supposed to be searching for some version of me that would be this perfectly pure mix of peace and light and balance... but i have never ever found her. and the more ive been going inside of myself the more i find all kinds of things that seem like such contradictions and extremes. its just too soft and vulnerable in these places, and then in those other places its so messy and wild... and there are these cravings for light, but there are also shadows to play in... and there are all those sweet and pretty and tender things, but there is fire and passion and chaos, too. and i think i used to feel like i needed to do something about it all, make it all make sense or settle down in some way... but more and more ive started to feel that maybe there is nothing wrong in me, and these are not contradictions so much as they are layers, and maybe i dont need to do anything other than allow it... and just let it all be beautiful. - @butterfliesrising on Instagram

He sent me an unfinished piece that I wrote the response to, and like my last collaboration, it was really spontaneous and the first stanza is Sams and the second stanza is mine. This piece is about the healing that takes place on the inside and outside and about that person who helps save us. From the inside out, that person helps reshape us into the person we were meant to be, and cleans away the hurt and pain.
