This photo was taken 10 years ago at a protest against Singapores mandatory death penalty for drug trafficking. 2010 was a year of hope - I think thats visible in my face. After all, 2009 was characterised by victory at the AWARE Saga, by Singapores first Pink Dot, by SlutWalk SG. And in 2010, Vui Kong, the man whose life anti-death penalty campaigners were petitioning for, was saved. For several years, Hong Lim Park felt like a second home. Ten years later, the state continues to kill people in our name, and I am less hopeful. First, in May this year, at the height of the pandemic, Punithan Genasan was sentenced to death via Zoom. And now Syed Suhail bin Syed Zin, arrested in 2011, is scheduled to be hanged for drug trafficking on Friday. According to Human Rights Watch, his family was only given eight days’ notice of his planned execution and because many of his close relatives live in Malaysia, they cant see him due to the pandemic. According to Amnesty International, under Singapore’s Misuse of Drugs Act, any person who is proved to have in their possession more than 2g of diamorphine is presumed to have had that drug in their possession for the purpose of trafficking, unless they can prove differently, in contravention to the right to the presumption of innocence. To my knowledge, Syed Suhail bin Syed Zin lives with heroin addiction. If you are concerned about this, or would like to learn more, I highly recommend following activist-writers Kirsten Han (@kixes), Kokila Annamalai (@kokiparva) and Jolovan Wham (@jwham) on Facebook - they are following the case closely. For several years, their voices have been essential to the betterment of Singapore as a whole, as most recently seen during the Covid-19 outbreaks, which amplified already devastating inequalities faced by migrant workers in Singapore. Kokila has also provided a teach-in about the death penalty in Singapore. Note: I will not be communicating with or humouring death penalty supporters or “Butwhatabouters” in my comments thread. Desde hace un mes, más o menos, planea por Instagram la torrentiana sombra de un pavo cuyos atributos más destacables se pueden resumir en que es muy feo, muy tonto y muy facha. El tal Dandy de Barcelona se inscribe en la interminable lista de fenómenos efímeros de internet cuya estupidez se despliega imparable y sin complejos a través de los principales canales informativos de las nuevas generaciones: los memes. En uno de sus últimos vídeos, una menor de edad le hace la cobra cuando pretende meterle el hocico. En otro, se baja de un maserati con un empresario local alardeando de que -mire usted- vienen de “irse de putas y de que les coman la polla”; y el tío cierra su speech con un sonidito que causa incomprensible furor entre lo peor de lo peor de nuestra fauna adolescente (y no tan adolescente). El problema no es que exista El Dandy, el problema es que su mórbida imbecilidad adquiera trascendencia a través de ciertas cuentas de memes que viven, casi exclusivamente, de la degradación por cuenta ajena. El jambo acaba de sacar un videoclip que ya acumula 40.000 likes en menos de 24 horas. Está claro que la involuntaria caricaturización del facha paleto, por extraño que parezca, no genera aversión hacia este tipo de posiciones ideológicas entre los sectores de la población menos formados. Todo lo contrario. A la peña le hace muchísima gracia que se banalice el odio al “antiespañol”, a las mujeres o que se haga constante apología de la mezquindad. Pero recuerda una cosa: el consumo irónico, si es constante, no existe. Cambia de cuenta de memes, de influencer y de canal de televisión. La demanda de mejor contenido genera una mejor oferta. Neste último fim de semana estivemos em mais uma ação realizando as entregas das cestas básicas. ⁣ Gratidão imensa a galera da @mais_surf e @maissurfgirl, que pela segunda vez disponibilizaram 110 cestas básicas para os moradores cadastrados em nossa lista de beneficiados! E para quem não tá participando da rifa, ainda dá tempo! Tem mais pranchas para serem sorteadas e você ainda ajuda em causas sociais iguais a nossa. ⁣ ⁣ Também tivemos 39 cestas básicas e 39 kits de limpeza doados pelo grupo JCPM! É muito bom ver empresas de referência em Pernambuco atuando com o social, e fomos contemplados nessa corrente do bem. ⁣ ⁣ Por fim, e não menos importante, a @pousadadavivi fez uma doação coletiva de 19 cestas básicas em nome de um grupo que optou por ficar no anonimato! Di Aceh, Ia hanya ingin menuju titik Nol Kilometer di Pulau Sabang. Perjalan Sutiyo dari Pekalongan ke Aceh telah memakan waktu selama 2 tahun 14 hari. Hari ini, dia telah tiba di Kota Lhokseumawe. Untuk tiba ke Kota Banda Aceh sebelum menuju Pulau Sabang, Sutiyo masih harus melakukan perjalanan sejauh 274,0 kilometer lagi. Saya akan terus melanjutkan perjalanan hingga tiba di Kilometer Nol Sabang, kata Sutiyo saat bincang-bincang dengan BERITAKINI.CO, di Gampong Kandang, Kota Lhokseumawe di sela-sela istirahat, Senin (24/9/2018) . Suka duka mengisi hari-hari Sutiyo di sepanjang perjalanan. Aksi jalan kakinya itu, diakui Sutiyo tanpa disponsori oleh siapa pun. Bahkan, untuk memenuhi keinginannya menuju Nol Kilometer Sabang, ia mengaku tidak membawa uang sepeser. Ada saja rezeki dan banyak keberkahan yang saya dapatkan selama berjalan kaki, kata pria berambut panjang ini. Untuk tempat istirahat, Sutiyo mengaku tak mempermasalahkannya. HAPPY BIRTHDAY SYLVIA RIVERA! You would be 69 today. Thank you for paving the way for us, for fighting so hard for queer liberation, for giving everything to a movement that did not deserve you. A movement that took your labor and coopted your pride, but rejected your transness, your brownness, your homelessness, your radical vision for liberation. That is the original sin of the gay rights movement. We need to remember that and name it, and keep naming it for those who don’t know. If you don’t know who Sylvia Rivera is, or only know a little about her story, google her today. She was a visionary activist who fought for gay power, centering working class queer and trans people of color, especially those experiencing homelessness and incarceration, and those made homeless by the AIDS crisis. In 1970, Sylvia Rivera and Marsha P Johnson co-founded Street Transvestites Action Revolutionaries (STAR), a radical political collective and mutual aid network which provided shelter and food to homeless trans youth, which Marsha and Sylvia funded mainly through sex work. Sylvia and Marsha were badasses, they were mothers, they were radicals, they created the blueprint for queer liberation and people don’t know that!!! We need to fight for our elders, we owe so much to them. Ha fallecido el humorista gráfico más internacional y más traducido del idioma español; y quizás también el más entrañable: Joaquín Salvador Lavado, Quino. Había nacido el 17 de julio de 1932 en Mendoza (Argentina), y tenía por tanto 88 años. En esa misma ciudad residía ahora, atendido por sus sobrinos desde que se trasladó allí en noviembre de 2017 tras morir su esposa, Alicia Colombo. El nombre de Quino estará ligado para siempre al más famoso de sus personajes: Mafalda; la niña sabia y respondona. Los padres de Joaquín Lavado eran españoles de Fuengirola (Málaga) y emigraron a Argentina en los años treinta. La humilde familia vivió en un círculo algo cerrado, hasta el punto de que el niño Quino habló en andaluz hasta sus primeros seis años. La muerte de su padre le sorprendió con sólo 14, y fue atemperando esa ausencia con las apariciones fantasmales que él creía ver cada cierto tiempo. Incluso después de casado con Alicia, se le aparecía su padre, fumando (“seguía sin hacer caso de que fumar no es bueno”), y miraba orgulloso al dibujante porque al muchacho no le había ido tan mal. Ia merinci dalam kesepakatan yang disetujui kedua belah pihak, tertuang 5 poin perjanjian. Di antaranya warga RW 02 Panglayungan diprioritaskan sebagai tenaga kerja, pengelolaan parkir dan keamanan oleh karang taruna setempat serta perusahaan memberikan lampu penerangan di sekitar Gang H Sobari dan membersihkan dinding kawasan gang. “Kemudian masyarakat pun berharap perusahaan bisa ikut dalam kegiatan sosial yang ada di lingkungan serta pengelola mau menerima titipan atau menjual hasil produksi warga,” kata dia. Namun, kata dia, sejak toko beroperasi, tidak ada satu pun poin kesepakatan direalisasikan. Ia mengancam apabila tuntutan tidak segera ditindaklanjuti, pihaknya akan menggelar aksi kembali serta menyarankan pemerintah menutup dan mencabut perizinan toko modern itu. “Kalau 10 hari tidak ada tindaklanjut, kita akan ajukan penutupan dan pencabutan izin,” tegasnya.
