I really dont know what to say. Im completely heartbroken to hear that a friend and model @elly.mayday lost her battle with ovarian cancer this Friday. I was a young photography student when I first reached out to Elly with the concept for the mannequin photo. She was perfect for it - confident and unapologetic (and wow, she was stunning). It wasnt until later that I found out she had started her first round of chemo the same day. My career and my life were changed because she believed in that project. Over the next 6 years we worked together several times, around surgeries and doctors appointments. She succeeded as a model in New York - it was so exciting to see her Lane Bryant ad in Times Square, celebrate the Perfect 14 documentary and hear her voice on the radio. She worked tirelessly to raise awareness for ovarian cancer and the body positive movement, all while fighting for her life. She took a horrible situation and handled it with so much courage. Ashley, you have no idea the impact you had on so many people. Thank you for using your voice to inform & inspire others. You were so brave. Im going to really miss making art with you. Okay gays, pass the tissues. Before we get into the inevitable debate in the comments about straight actors playing gay characters, just watch the trailer and tell us youre not moved. While the aforementioned debate is still extremely relevant and important, we cant deny that this new telling of such an intimate and emotional narrative by two of the worlds best acting talents is shaping up to be breathtaking. The film follows Sam (Colin Firth) and Tusker (Stanley Tucci) as they road trip around England visiting family, friends, and notable places from their past following Tuskers diagnosis with early-onset dementia. The couples love for one another is tested like never before as the reality of Tuskers disease becomes more apparent and their plans for the future no longer align. I want to be remembered for who I was, and not for who Im about to become, Tusker says to Sam in the trailer. And later, when the pair are arguing because Tusker believes that whats happening isnt fair on Sam, Sam replies: Its not about fair, its about love. I want to see this through with you until the end. Just trying as hard as I can to #selfcare in the midst of all of this. Is anybody else’s anxiety completely torturing them right now? 🙋🏻♀️ This type of constant, general, persistent anxiety is new to me, and it’s really terrible. I keep believing that the worst will happen. It’s giving me a lot of physical discomfort as well as emotional discomfort. I’m to the point where I’m freaking anxious about being anxious. I’m washing my hands until they bleed, trying to control the uncontrollable. However, anyone who knows me knows that I love cognitive restructuring, so I’m trying to focus on what this is teaching me. This experience is teaching me so much about anxiety and how strong and illogical it can really be. This is going to help me be able to empathize with my clients who deal with this down the road, and I’m grateful for that. If you are dealing with crippling anxiety right now, I strongly suggest seeking online therapy. I had my first session in a very long time, it was insanely helpful and made me realize I’ve been living with anxiety for a long time. If you have anxiety, remember that the body and the mind are connected. When we have anxiety, our mind tricks our body into believing it’s being imminently threatened, and it goes into a fight or flight mode. Recognize that this feeling is anxiety and that it stems from your thoughts. Remember that anxiety is a liar. Every anxious thought that tricks you into believing that the worst will definitely happen is a lie. Remember that when it comes to self-care, try everything! Try things you’re not good at, try things that you’ve never thought of trying, learn something new. If we do things with intention, we won’t feel so stuck. Remember that we grow the most when we’re uncomfortable. We are all justified in having #anxiety right now as many things are out of our control.
