Step up to the bar so that it’s close to your shins and over your mid-foot. - 2️⃣HINGE YOUR HIPS BACK: Initiate the deadlift by sitting back with your hips. This will help you to load your posterior chain (glutes and hamstrings) and get into a strong starting position. - 3️⃣GRAB THE BAR JUST OUTSIDE YOUR SHINS: The wider your hands, the greater the demand on your mid and upper back. Keeping your hands in closer will help make the pull feel easier than if they were out too wide. - 4️⃣ALIGN YOUR ARMPITS DIRECTLY OVER THE BAR: This will set you up for a more vertical and direct bar path, which makes the deadlift much more efficient. - 5️⃣PUSH INTO THE FLOOR AND STAND TALL: Instead of thinking about “lifting” the bar off the floor, think about “pushing” your feet into the ground. The harder you push down into the floor, the stronger your deadlift will be. Stand tall at the top and look straight ahead to practice good alignment. - 6️⃣INITIATE THE DESCENT WITH ANOTHER HIP HINGE: Once you’ve gotten to the top of the deadlift, lower it back down by hinging your hips back, loading your posterior chain again, and getting right back into your original starting position. - We hope this checklist helps you out the next time you’re going through a set of deadlifts! 🅱️Choke: Mechanical obstruction of the airway via compression of the throat to disrupt respiratory system. This means to deprive the lungs of oxygen or prevent the lungs from expelling carbon dioxide. . Cerebral hypoxia ie reducing supply of oxygen to the brain via airway obstruction may take approximately 60 seconds while only 9-12 seconds with a strangulation. . While some variations of the guillotine may act more like strangulations most variations primarily function as chokes. With an inadequate supply of oxygen to the body asphyxiation will occur, which will render an opponent unconscious. Many opponents may tap not from lack of oxygen but due to the painful pressure of the trachea compression. . ❗️Important safety note: brain damage can occur when the body does not have oxygen for 3 minutes. . Civilian EMS or any type of pre-hospital system can and should implement such protocols. • DD1380 FORM: one of the main forms used for TCCC (Tactical Combat Casualty Care). Take a moment to look at all the valuable information and general approach to information gathering, documentation and handoffs. Another type of report is the MIST. • M.I.S.T REPORT: typically used in the setting of a Nine-Line MEDEVAC and given at the end of the report M – Mechanism of injury (mine, GSW, RPG, RTA, etc.given) • I – Type of Injury (found and or suspected) S – Signs (pulse rate, blood pressure, respiratory rate) T – Treatment is given (ketamine, tourniquet, etc.Example) A/C – adult/child (include age if known) • The MIST report can be used in the civilian sector to help organize for a quality and concise handoff to the next level of care (Paramedic -- to trauma team) • This topic isnt always the most exciting, but when done correctly it offers tremendous value. Yesterday’s deadlifts were freaking awesome! Hit a little PR for a 5x5! Was super stoked! Deadlifts are as follows: . . 585x5x5 (set 5 video 1; set 1 video 2; set 3 video 3) 495x3x5 snatch grip (set 3 video 4) . . Was really stoked because this was the first time of hitting a 5x5 at this heavy of a weight. Usually do a 3x5 or a 6x3 but got all 25 reps pumped me up hence the face at the end of set 5. Def felt like my form is getting on point and I’m getting better with my starting position and head position. Just on some reps I was moving so fast that I was almost shrugging the bar. Need to fix that and need to keep my crappy right leg from getting on my toes when it gets fatigued. Other than that, I was pretty pumped with how things felt and how speedy they were! Just have to keep working so I can get my 730ish beltless pull at my October comp. Just have to keep grinding! I tend to not over complicate things so patients don’t get overwhelmed. 👉My primary goals after knee surgery are to restore knee range of motion, get the quads activated and reduce swelling, simple as that. 💡While the goal may be simple, the importance of educating the patient on WHY its important is huge. Joe Redburn, the founder of two iconic Salt Lake City gay bars who brought the beer for what became the first Utah Pride celebration, has died. In 1973, Redburn opened The Sun, inspired by a gay bar in San Francisco. The Sun “was like the first disco in Utah,” said longtime friend Nikki Boyer. “It had the first disco ball, the first live DJs. … It was about all the freedom we had there. It was a good time. It was a great time.” Redburn later founded The Trapp, which later became @the_suntrapp after The Sun was destroyed by the 1999 tornado in downtown Salt Lake City. Legs should be fully extended and body should be vertical. • Overhead - positions remains the same. 💥Shoulder Instability💥 • • 🚨Shoulder Instability is typically caused by one of three things (or a combination): • 1️⃣ROTATOR CUFF PATHOLOGY: The rotator cuff’s primary job is to stabilize the shoulder joint with overhead movements. • 2️⃣SHOULDER LABRUM PATHOLOGY: The labrum functions to deepen the socket of the shoulder joint, as well as be an attachment for other structures and tissues around the joint. • 3️⃣REPETITIVE STRAIN: If you mix in one of the above impairments with a repetitive motion, it may irritate the area and cause further wear and tear to the shoulder. • ‼️There is one commonality I often find with all three causes above.
