The bear didnt make it 20yds before it piled up. Great work, Brit! Ive told the story of Bubbles and Squeak, but Ive been putting off telling the tale of Lazarus. TW: animal cruelty, poison. Lazarus and his brother were the first two rats Ive ever known and loved, even though our time together was so short. Lazarus and his brother were found in the dirt, covered with cockroaches. They were poisoned by their own mothers milk. Even in his last moments, Lazarus was searching for the comfort of his mother. He wasnt aggressive, he wasnt angry. He just wanted his mother. Rehabilitación. - Lasiurus varius. - Se tiende a creer que los murciélagos que están en el piso de día o que entran a las casas de día son murciélagos con rabia o alguna enfermedad, personalmente creo que esto no puede estar más alejado de la realidad, tomando en cuenta que han sido animales sumamente estigmatizados por la cultura popular, y por si fuera poco el ISP en la mayoría de casos los trata directamente como solo una cosa que podría ser una posible enfermedad y no como animal ( quiero aclarar que un gato o un perro pueden ser posibles zoonosis tambien ). - Hay muchas razones por las cuales un murciélago puede estar en el piso, o la primera es que puede ser joven e inexperto, como es el caso de este L.varius, los juveniles no siempre se adaptan bien al cambio de dieta y con ello la separación de la madre, al ser inexpertos no suelen tener éxito durante varios intentos de captura, terminando debilitados. - Puede ser que un murciélago no haya alcanzado a llegar a su refugio por qué lo pillo el ocaso, y debido a esto se ve obligado a refugiarse en otros lados como una casa cercana. - O puede ser que simplemente lo hayan echado de la colonia por una riña o alguna cosa X ( en especies gregarias). - @yeco.saurio on Instagram

The first official IUCN Red List for British Mammals shows that four of the 11 mammal species native to Britain classified as being at imminent risk of extinction are bats. Ah, the elusive and fantastic pine marten! Martens may avoid open ground to reduce the risk of predation. Pine martens aren’t confined to woodland, but each animal requires from 86 to 166 hectares of woodland within its territory. Once found across Britain, the pine marten was prone to persecution until relatively recently. Though it has recovered a little from a dramatic decline, the species is still rare. Scotland’s population is estimated at 3,700 adult pine martens. The species was given full legal protection in 1988. Pine martens are once again established across much of Scotland north of the central belt, with outlying populations in parts of the Scottish Borders and Dumfries and Galloway. Their compassion for these desperate creatures and unwillingness to give up has totally inspired and changed me for the better, as hard as it is to see. Desmodus rotundus è una specie di pipistrello detta vampiro vero di Azara. È un pipistrello dalle medie dimensioni, ha un corpo che varia dai 68 e 93 mm, un avambraccio tra i 53 e 65 mm, le orecchie possono variare da 15 a 20 mm per un peso di 45 gr. Hanno degli incisivi molto lunghi e sviluppati, e la loro bocca e poi composta da piccoli denti. Forma colonie dai 20 ai 100 individui, ma sono state ritrovate anche colonie di 5000 esemplari. È un animale che vive in tutta l’America del Sud dentro a grotta con spiragli di luce. Il suo nome deriva appunto dal fatto che, si nutre esclusivamente di sangue di altri vertebrati, si nutre soprattutto di animali domestici grazie appunto ai suoi incisivi. I suoi movimenti sono agili e furtivi, non atterra sulla preda ma nelle sue vicinanze, e si avvicina ad essa con piccoli passetti e saltelli. Negli ultimi anni sono stati riscontrati attacchi anche a bambini compresi tra gli 8 e i 15 anni, che dopo il loro morso viene contratta la rabbia e nella maggior parte dei casi sopravviene la morte. Sono animali molto altruisti tra loro, alcuni esemplari possono rigurgitare il proprio pasto ai piccoli o altri membri della colonia. Si riproduce tutto l’anno, le nascite hanno due picchi tra Aprile e Maggio e tra Settembre e Ottobre e verrà data alla luce un piccolo oppure un parto gemellare sennò. La gestazione dura circa 7 mesi e nascerà un piccolo da 5 a 7 grammi. Vivono in media in natura circa 12 anni mentre in cattività anche fino a 19 anni. Wildlife Rescue in the Daintree: our latest arrival is a fully grown male Eastern tube-nosed bat (Nyctimene Robinsoni) found on the ground in Port Douglas and delivered to Wildlife Habitat Port Douglas before being passed to us. No broken bones or obvious injury (apart from an abraded swollen right wrist) but treating for possible variables such as infection, cat attack or collision - with hydration, anti-inflammatories and antibiotics. Tiene cuello, cola y extremidades cortas, y sus orejas son medianamente grandes y redondeadas. Su pelaje es áspero, denso y de color marrón – castaño. Los machos tienen una pequeña cornamenta no ramificada de hasta 10 cm y orientada hacia atrás, las hembras carecen de ella. Es herbívoro, tiene un olfato sensible y es muy tímido y asustadizo. Pasa gran parte del día acostado, protegido por los matorrales. An interesting update from our trackers in Mana Pools. The Nyamepi pack is well and has been doing a great job protecting its 6 pups. Whisky, the alpha female, left the den with the pups on the 26th August and have been nomadic since. She sadly lost one pup to hyenas a day after she became nomadic but the pack has managed to keep their enemies at bay since. They are doing so well compared to last year, where the pack lost 3 pups within 3 days of leaving the den. Fingers crossed, the pack will successfully raise all 6 to adulthood. Currently, the pack consists of 8 adults, one yearling, Candy (a product of father and daughter), and 6 pups that are a product of brother Gamma, the alpha-male, and sister, Whisky. Both are from the same litter of 2017 by the legendary Black-tip. Day 33: There is a HOPE…and the hope is you! Her diet was inappropriate and confined in a small cage were impacted her natural behaviour, whether physically and psychologically. At the time of her rescue in August 2020, she weighed only 1.4kg – malnourished and stunted. Little Betung grows at a slow rate. Her health check result indicates pancytopenia and low in total protein. Today, Little Betung is 6 months old and weighs 2.00kg. A variety of fruits, vegetables and protein, a supplement makes up Betungs’ daily diet. She never skips meal time! During the outing in the forest, she gets the opportunity to dig dead wood, sunbathing, climbing small trees and exercise. It is likely her rehabilitation will be a much longer process. One of the lucky pangolins that was recovered a couple of weeks ago was a large and heavily pregnant female who was later name Autumn because of the stunning colours of her scales. Autumn responded to her treatment well and was soon out foraging for ants on her nightly walks and picking up the weight that she had lost during in ordeal. Autumn has now begun the stage of her rehabilitation called soft release, where she has been released in an undisclosed location and will be closely monitored for the coming weeks to ensure that she continues to eat well and explore her new surroundings. As she is believed to be so close to the end of her pregnancy we are all waiting with baited breath to hear when the little one arrives. Following a report of a painted dogs den sighting in Sinamatela, our trackers Washington Moyo and Lephius Muyuni went to check it out. Behold, its the Lukodet pack and Didi, the alpha female, is denning! The pack has been off the radar for a while and tracking inside the park hasn’t been as frequent due to COVID-19 lockdown restrictions. We suspect this is probably the packs second den or so. Painted dogs normally move their pups to a new den site a few times during the denning period to avoid detection by other predators in the area that could pose a threat to the pack and the pups. Another reason is to avoid or reduce parasite infestations. The pups will stay at a den until they are about 4 months old. This is when they are big and strong enough to move with the pack. Unfortunately, the team did not catch a glimpse of the pups or get closer to the den as they were avoiding disturbing the site. Didi and other pack members were also jealously guarding the site against all sides. Last year Didi had a litter of 11 pups and 13 pups in 2018, though not all survived in both litters. We are happy the pack is well and growing even bigger and stronger. The last time we saw the Lukodet they were 16 strong. Animals know. They can see kindness, and they seek it. Gary and Sara have had a few new arrivals to the sanctuary, some baby wombats and Amy the Cobargo Wee Wallaby. These cuties will receive a lot of love and care from them until they are sent out to other shelters. The wombats will go to an unaffected (by fire) shelter until they are a little older and will then return to Gary and Sara as this is his/her home. The mothers of these orphans will have taught their babies the layout of the land. Where to find the best feed and where to find water. They will not forget what their mothers taught them. Without a steady supply of water, keeping these darling bush babies long term is not feasible so Amy the wallaby is heading off to another carer shortly who has another wallaby the same age. This will offer company and comfort to the babies. Water is necessary for making bottles, washing pouches and basic linen items required to keep bush babies warm and clean. This is why a water tank is high on Gary and Saras priority list. A tank is still a little while off as they work through some challenges to get it delivered, but the wheels of progress are moving slowly. O filhote da anta Eva está frequentando o ponto de suplementação alimentar, está gordinho e aparentemente saudável. 😃🙏🍀 Vamos torcer para que ele fique bem e acompanhar seu desenvolvimento com as armadilhas fotográficas. Ele é arisco, como uma anta selvagem deve ser. Vamos seguir acompanhando e alimentando de longe, e se notarmos algum problema vamos planejar uma intervenção. Normalmente os filhotes de anta acompanham suas mães até um ano e meio de idade, não vai ser fácil para o filhote ficar sozinho com 8 meses, mas acreditamos que ele vai conseguir. Ieri nel tardo pomeriggio mentre passeggiava per le campagne della zona ovest della città di Milano, una signora ha notato che il proprio cane era attratto dalla presenza di qualcosa che si muoveva sotto un cespuglio sulla sponda di un piccolo torrente. Ha subito richiamato il proprio cane e si è avvicinata per verificare l’eventuale presenza di un animale in difficoltà: con sua enorme sorpresa ha visto una piccola volpe rannicchiata bagnata, immobile e che faceva fatica a muoversi. Ha provato a cercare aiuto contattando i Vigili del Fuoco ma non avendo squadre a disposizione che potessero intervenire in poco tempo ed essendo ormai tardi per un recupero dell’animale con il buio, ha portato sul posto un po’ di carne cruda per la volpe sperando di riuscire l’indomani a contattare di nuovo i soccorritori. Solo oggi la signora è stata messa in contatto con gli operatori dell’ENPA di Milano che sono subito intervenuti recuperando l’animale proprio nello stesso punto dove era il giorno prima. La volpe è stata dapprima trasferita presso la clinica veterinaria dell’ENPA di Milano dove è stata sottoposta a radiografia per verificare quale potesse essere il motivo della difficoltà di movimento agli arti posteriori e successivamente, una volta stabilizzata, è stata trasferita presso il CRAS di Vanzago. Al momento è tenuta sotto osservazione e viene monitorata costantemente. “La volpe è molto magra, segno che purtroppo è da tempo in difficoltà e che ha fatto molta fatica a procacciarsi del cibo” ha commentato Ermanno Giudici presidente di ENPA Milano. “Purtroppo, in questi casi la loro sopravvivenza dipende sempre dalla possibilità che qualcuno si accorga subito delle difficoltà dell’animale, che può essere salvato solo con un tempestivo intervento dei soccorritori. Ci auguriamo che questa volpe ce la faccia a riprendersi.
