I don’t get to bump into Michelle and Gijs while walking around the hood anymore but since Buteaupia finally dropped on Netflix I can spend an hour with her anytime I want now. 𝐌𝐲 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐢 𝐌𝐞 👩👧⠀ ⠀ ⠀ One thing I know for sure is that Aaria is the best big sister I could’ve ever expected or asked for. Of course it’s inevitable that there will be disputes and minor arguments but in general this little gem of mine is like a second mum to Liahna. She takes the responsibility of taking care of Liahna willingly and wouldn’t have it any other way. She likes to contribute and share her hands helping around the house. I think we can all agree (judging from the stories I post) that her personality is just blooming with character.⠀ ⠀ Recently I have been concerned with her level of education and hoping that ‘am I doing enough for her to thrive?’ I mean we all want the best of our child/ren right? Especially when it comes to their education and learning and I found myself doing putting pressure on myself to ensure she stays ahead of the game. A contradiction to my parenting ethos. What on earth was I thinking?!!!!! Im delighted to donate the funds raised by families in Marin who participated in my Front Porch Portrait Program to the Marin Foster Care Association @marinfostercare. About 8 weeks ago, in the depths of COVID SIP, I read about photographers around the world donating their time and talent to raise money for COVID affected charities. I decided this was exactly what I needed to do to contribute. Every weekend I photographed 5-6 families meeting new friends and reconnecting with old. There were lots of laughs and a whole lot of tears but it truly saved me in such secluded times. This project was very successful for me and has given me the inspiration to start a new project to help fund paths to fight for anti-racism in our country. Stay tuned. An extra thank you to Kelsey Rogers, Alexis Lynch and Darcy Alkus-Barrow for spreading the word about this project that put me in touch with so many families. Früher habe ich gedacht, dass man spätestens, wenn man Kinder hat, erwachsen wird. Aber wenn man klein ist, verraten einem die Erwachsenen nicht, dass sie in Wahrheit auch nur improvisieren. Wir heiraten, setzen Kinder in die Welt und halten das für Erwachsen-werden. Eigentlich werden wir nur ein bisschen älter, gewinnen an Perspektive. Lernen, dass nach jedem Versagen ein Neuanfang kommt und dass das Leben immer irgendwie weiter geht. Unsere Gesichter und Körper zeigen vielleicht ein wenig von der Zeit, die vergangen ist. Aber innerlich sind wir im Grunde genau die, die wir vor 15 Jahren waren. Und hoffen, dass um himmelswillen unsere Kinder nicht merken, dass wir mit verbundenen Augen mit Ihnen über die Autobahn des Lebens rasen.⠀ Das Gute an der Erkenntnis ist, dass niemand von uns perfekt sein muss. Dass jeder Tag ein neuer Versuch, der Teil vieler Prozesse sein darf. Wir dürfen versagen und neu beginnen und werden zwischendurch trotzdem eine ganze Menge richtig machen. I have a little favour.. Because in 2018, male suicide rates were three times higher than females. Of the suicidal deaths, 76% were male and 24% female. Is it that there are more women then men devoted to bettering their physical and mental health? Or is it a certain stigma behind a male wanting to look after themselves? Even though there’s only a couple of spots left to our @feltretreats and we already have a pretty perfect combo of men and women attending - it’s no secret that far more women follow me than men. It’s also no secret that really... there are more men that need this in the world than women (don’t worry, if you want your man to come then there’s no reason for you to miss out 😂). So.. Because my reach to men is only a slither, my favour is to please share/tag/show this to a man that otherwise wouldn’t see it but NEEDS and WANTS it. Obviously a friend or partner is perfect to share the experience and the luxe room with, but I want to gift whoever it is $300 off for MANNING UP 💪🏻. They can talk to us first, or dive head first and enter MANUP at the checkout because losing two men close to us through suicide in the last 6 months is too close to home, and these statistics and the stories that were recently shared with me really hit me.
