We have a new episode of Cook on High for 30 Minutes about PF Changs! When I was job hunting a few months ago I came across a posting for a janitoral position at PF Changs that stated that their janitors needed to be “genuine and authenticity themselves” which is one of the most sickening things I’ve ever seen in a job posting. Happy quarantine birthday to me! We had cake, ice cream, some decorations and a family Zoom call. Then we swam, watched nursery rhymes and read a book. My husband bought me flowers. Yesterday we headed to @puzzlewoodfod. An ancient woodland in the Forest of Dean which has been home to a number of famous films and tv shows, who have filmed scenes here. Doctor Who, Harry Potter and The Secret Garden (2020) are just a few to note. It is not surprising that it is used as the woodland just looks so magical. My photos do not do it the justice it deserves. Sadly for us, we felt it was just a little too busy. We managed to social distance but with so many people, you dont really get chance to stop and take photos without holding people behind you up. But it is definitely still worth booking a visit and experiencing the wonderful woodlands. There is a one way system in place with longer and shorter routes available. Other than the magical woodland which includes little caves, wooden bridges and beautiful views, they also have a few animals on site including donkeys, ponies, ducks, goats and sheep :-). Theres a picnic area inside or outside for you to eat your own goodies or you can purchase things from the takeaway cafe. There are plenty of toilet facilities and a separate handwashing outbuilding which was great for those wanting to wash hands before eating picnics. Overall a wonderful trip out. If you enjoy walking, the great outdoors, breathtaking scenery or discovering nature whatever the season, you’ll love Puzzlewood. Experience twisted trees in an otherworldly woodland through a mile and a half of paths, bridges and lookout points. It’s a wood like no other, and its magic will cast a spell to entice you back time and time again. Prebook online. She argued and won FIVE landmark gender equality cases before the Supreme Court. So many women have been able to pursue our dreams and exercise our rights as equal citizens because of her. Walking with @pieces2peacemassagetherapy this AM and we were talking about progress, feelings, all the things. We agreed we ALWAYS feel better when we get up and do the early workout, get the cardio in, eat well, prioritize sleep and rest, etc., But sometimes its still SO hard to do these things. 😟 Its easy to try and sleep in, even though that extra bit of sleep is broken and leaves you feeling worse. 😴 Its easy to eat what you want instead of whats good for you, even though that food upsets your stomach and makes you feel crappy all day. 🥗 Its easy to grab a soda (even diet) instead of drinking your water, even though it leaves you thirsty and isnt helping your body like water would. 🥤 Its easy to lay on the couch or make a mountain out of getting a walk in rather than getting up and doing your cardio, even though you feel sluggish and can have negative self thoughts creep in. 🚶♀️ Why is it so easy to do the things that are wrong for you and your goals, and so hard to do the things you KNOW are better for you and make you FEEL better?! 🔻Because its the way were programmed? 🔻Because we, as a society, are more inclined to instant gratification and taking the easy way, rather than putting a little elbow grease in and practicing patience? 🔻Because we are convinced that busy is best, and make the excuse that we dont have time because we arent prioritizing ourselves in our OWN lives? Maybe. I know a few things to be true: ✅If it was easy, everyone would do it. ✅If you make the small amount of time to plan your day the night before or morning of, it can make a huge difference. ✅I want to spend more days FEELING good about who I am, who I want to be, and how I live that life -- so Im going to do the hard things. Encourage the postpartum women in your life to be healthy. Coach them to be strong. Recognize the signs of struggle. Being underweight isn’t a badge of honor, it’s a call for help. We have a responsibility in the fitness industry to educate the importance of a healthy and responsible postpartum recovery. Moms need to take care of themselves! This means: 1️⃣ Establish healthy coping skills (I.e momma doesn’t need her wine!) 2️⃣ Build a strong foundation of strength PRIOR to an emphasis on weight loss (the elliptical can wait!) 3️⃣ Keep eating!! Now is not the time to diet. Especially if you are breastfeeding. 4️⃣ Take time for yourself. (Without feeling guilty or judged) 5️⃣ Ask for help!!! This one is the most important. If you need to ask someone to watch the baby for 2 hours so you can take a nap. Do it. You’ll wake up refreshed and more like yourself! This is the story of why we wear an orange shirt today. “I went to the Mission for one school year in 1973/1974. I had just turned 6 years old. I lived with my grandmother on the Dog Creek reserve. We never had very much money, but somehow my granny managed to buy me a new outfit to go to the Mission school. I remember going to Robinson’s store and picking out a shiny orange shirt. It had string laced up in front, and was so bright and exciting – just like I felt to be going to school! When I got to the Mission, they stripped me, and took away my clothes, including the orange shirt! I never wore it again. I didn’t understand why they wouldn’t give it back to me, it was mine! The color orange has always reminded me of that and how my feelings didn’t matter, how no one cared and how I felt like I was worth nothing. All of us little children were crying and no one cared. I was 13.8 years old and in grade 8 when my son Jeremy was born. Because my grandmother and mother both attended residential school for 10 years each, I never knew what a parent was supposed to be like. With the help of my aunt, Agness Jack, I was able to raise my son and have him know me as his mother. I went to a treatment centre for healing when I was 27 and have been on this healing journey since then. I finally get it, that the feeling of worthlessness and insignificance, ingrained in me from my first day at the mission, affected the way I lived my life for many years. Even now, when I know nothing could be further than the truth, I still sometimes feel that I don’t matter. Even with all the work I’ve done! I started at SMS® in 2016 until I took my first teaching job in 2019. I chose SMS® because a friend recommended it to me. I STAYED for 3YRS because of all the great families I got to encounter. My heart is so broken today trying to deal with the devastating passing of my sweet, fun, talented, friend Nolan Gibbons. Nolan was one of the most incredible people I have ever met. His talent in music, theater, arranging, beatboxing and so much more just blew me away. I would sit watching him beatbox live, in shock of how he was able to do that so easily! He was always a joy to be around, whether it was to sing, dance, laugh, learn, talk, I was always so grateful to be in his presence. It’s still so hard to process this news. The cool thing about dreams are, they are forever evolving. 2 years ago Jarrett and I sold our house, sold most of our stuff, quit our stable well paying jobs and moved to Colorado with a vision & dream of how we wanted to live. I’ve been thinking about this a lot recently as I look toward our future and realize how 𝐁𝐈𝐆 my dreams have gotten!! I’ve learned to dream big (which really just means I’ve learned to tell the universe what I want and that I am ready to claim it!) But when looking towards the future, I like to look back at what dreams/goals I’ve already claimed. Being here, with my family, living the life we dreamed of, is a major accomplishment and I am so proud of us for leaving comfort to embrace change. This was a big dream of ours, and we did it! This was an interesting experiment in trying to get my latest profile pic done... Kittens underfoot, kids running around everywhere, tripping over the tripods. And I set up my little backdrop in a corner of our living room - and let me assure you, we dont have any sort of open concept thing going in this 1800s house, so that was also fun. And then my remote trigger stopped working (the handy little thing that lets me take photos of myself from far away with my camera on a tripod). And then I was thankful I had the kids around do they could press the shutter button. And then of course we got some pics with the kittens, and my daughter. My son would rather be taking the photos. All I ever knew about farms growing up was that they were stinky and that I didnt want to live on one! 😂 Well here I am, living on a farm and loving it! Heres a little introduction to our story! Max grew up on the farm. The Miller family has been farming this land since 1946 and as of today, we care for approximately 180 head of cattle and plant and harvest approximately 850 acres of no-till row crops. I (Ashley) grew up in Wisconsin in a neighborhood, NOT on a farm! I always said I was going to be a travel nurse in New York City and guess what? I ended up on a farm in rural Illinois! (I did become a nurse though, just not in NYC 😂). I honestly love farm life though and all I can say is that God has better plans for us than we do! “Pain Has Purpose” Trent Shelton. I read that today in my personal development and it made me think about my own journey and how true that is. I share my journey because Beachbody changed my life.
