I cant write, I tried. This is just an exercise, bear with me. People will always find ways to accuse you, if you are posting something or not posting something. Dont wash your dirty linen in public, theyll tell you. And why people do that, because they want to believe that they are not alone. I write my story here to give out a message that I am suffering from a Writers block and if you are suffering from it too, you are not alone. Its one thing I love that hasnt left me(for now{hope it doesnt}). When you are passionate about something but you cant do it; it hurts you, well differently. Self doubt gets involved, frustration. (I cant think of another word) I tried to write. I was a graphomaniac in school. Dammit! my notebook and laptop are filled with awesome half finished stories. Social media has earned bad name over the years. Not an advocate but I use it to connect with people and to learn something new. I am not preaching depression over here. I want to know if you feel the same. Like Gulliver, the guy in the picture who always got into trouble for being in a wrong place with wrong people. He was either too big or too small. He landed in different worlds, did things to please different people of different kingdoms. Delusional to think they would accept him as their own. Some satire are hard to pick when your are young. Paynter describes the woods the way only a person who grew up in the area could. She makes the woods into an entity that ends up scarier than the actual Devil. The vastness and silence that surrounds woods is something I forgot I was afraid of, reading this story reminded me of how I felt when I was a child. I was unaware that the Jersey Devil is a real legend that has roots back into the 1700s. It’s been a while since I’ve written new content, and many women have been there to remind me how powerful it can be to break open; I’ve constantly found strength in your writing, yoga, and truth. Update: I temporarily left NYC over 2 months ago; my building wasn’t taking the pandemic seriously, grocery shelves were empty, the governor was telling us to avoid public transportation, and I live alone in a studio on a 4 floor walk-up — I was afraid. With my anxiety disorder, I felt it best to leave for the moment. Thankfully, my parents welcomed me home. However, I never imagined being out of the city this long & quarantining with them has triggered childhood trauma and anxiety. In some ways, it’s been therapeutic to see how I — as an adult who has dealt with my trauma — can face this trigger and rebound. But it has been far from easy and I’ve had my moments of resorting to a scared little girl raising her voice to be heard in the chaos. To intensify things, my boyfriend — who I adore — is with us, and learning to be in our relationship while navigating my childhood trauma has been challenging. But I’m starting to see my strength again, my voice, my opinions, my power ... as a woman. It has been emotional to sit across from my mother and see how far I’ve come from my anxious childhood home — and how I dream to have a relationship in a calmer, more nurturing home. And I think I’m soon ready to take my next step; prior to the pandemic, my boyfriend and I were trying to come to a consensus about where we would move in together. I’m a city girl and I’ve been heartbroken to see how hard the pandemic has hit us. He lives and works about an hour outside of NYC. I envisioned a few more years in NYC before settling elsewhere. I am afraid to be uninspired and ‘stuck’ and bored living outside of the city. So, I’m pausing & reassessing. I’m uncomfortable with this uncertainty, but I’m declaring it. Every day I’m challenging myself to stay here in this moment and begin to take control of my future. Earlier this year, the wonderful @feminist_romance held a giveaway for Priest by Sierra Simone and I was one of the lucky winners! This month I decided to finally dive in. Reader, it wrecked me. 🖤 Id heard so much buzz about Priest in the romance community. It follows Father Tyler Bell, who breaks his vow of celibacy with Poppy, a new parishioner at his church. While it is steamy in the best possible ways, its also an incredibly moving and powerful portrayal of grief and faith and the ways that two characters find God in the most unexpected of ways. Simone completely subverted all of my expectations, taking a concept that seemed sacrilegious and instead using it as a vessel to bring characters closer to their faith and each other. 🖤 Its a book bound to hit readers in a very personal way. Faith isnt a part of my life, but I was raised in the church and in particular was blown away by Simone’s exploration of both Catholic guilt and institutional power within the organization. Tyler is actively reckoning with the damage and hurt the church has caused in a way thats important to read about and was necessary in the creation of a priest as a romance hero. Hes trying to make the organization better from the inside and never shies away from the fact that theres serious work to be done. Priest is a book that brings the hero to his knees, and the reader alongside him. Its intense, emotional, and so damn good that Im now adding everything Simones ever written to my TBR. Seriously between this and her story in the Naughty Brits anthology, Sierra Simone can ruin me any day of the week. 🖤 I cant believe Im sitting here raving over a single POV romance, which is usually not my jam at all. For me, Tylers journey was so compelling that I didnt miss Poppys. She comes to the story having achieved her character growth, and hes the one who needs the time to do the same over the course of the book. 🖤 This is also the rare book Ill hype up and also hesitate to recommend. The darkness of the room was a black cloak and weighed heavily on my back. A tap was heard at the window , I ignored it. Nothing seemed more important to me at that moment than my relationship whose roots were rotten to a point where nothing could fix it. The night was followed by more taps at the window. I woke up and a flood of pain filled my mind looking at the sullen sky. I was jolted back after noticing the stare at the window. A little girl with eyes too big to be human and so blue that the oceans would be ashamed smiled at me . Let me in tap , tap , tap Its too cold outside I couldnt tell reality from dreams and fell down. I woke up in the afternoon not knowing why this happened to me. My day went by as normal as any other day. I walked through it trapped in a cloud of sorrow unable to feel anything else. I walked home in the rainy evening. Everything seemed motionless. Suddenly I saw her in the middle of the street , waving at me with her sullen smile and asked me to come . I walked towards her as swiftly as I could and fell on my knees to meet her. She pointed to the left side of the road and I pushed her away from the blue truck. The same blue as her eyes. . . . I hope the story brought you some chills and the picture matched your aesthetic. Making of a period royal portrait. Home made surma (eye kohl) and applied with fingertip around the eye and then smudged on the eyebrow. No other makeup. Followed my mama’s recipe of collecting soot on a spoon inverted over a burning cotton wick in ghee. Then mixing the soot with a touch of ghee. Also did a ‘value study’ (the lightness/darkness grade of colors in a monochrome), and the real colors of the outfit. PS: Could not affect the pouty attitude that brings great tension to the original image. Esse livro mostra realidade de muitas mulheres no Afeganistão, mostra o início do domínio Talibã e como uma cultura poder ser tão machista. O autor conseguiu contar tudo de forma bem realista, então se você é sensível, já aviso logo, se prepare 😢 A escrita na minha opinião foi perfeita, detalhista na medida certa, o autor nos leva a conhecer mais sobre a vida das mulheres nas sociedades extremistas, como elas são tratadas e como são privadas dos seus direitos mais básicos. A realidade de uma guerra fica claramente exposta nessa história, e ela pode ser devastadora. Mas em um país onde as mulheres não tem valor nenhum, nem o direito de abrir a boca sem ser chamada, como elas poderiam se libertar de um marido violento e opressor? A vida tem jeitos estranhos de nos fazer livres. Vocês não tem ideia de como esse livro mexeu comigo, senti raiva, senti tristeza e pude sair da concha e ver como a luta por direitos humanos é importante. Esse livro entrou pra lista de favoritos do ano, foi meu primeiro contato com o autor e eu to apaixonada pela sensibilidade da escrita dele. “Só há uma coisa na vida que precisamos aprender, e ninguém atende ensina isso nas escolas. “2 + 2 = 5”. Hoy traigo la reseña del clásico que ustedes me recomendaron para cerrar el tema de distopías. Al terminar el libro entendí por qué es tan reconocido en el género; es la máxima representación de una distopía. Y habiendo leído otras 7 novelas de esa categoría, debo decir que 1984 logró marcarme. Con Winston visitamos la sociedad futurista de Oceanía, región compuesta por América, Reino Unido y Oceanía como los conocemos. Oceanía es gobernada por un régimen totalitario cuya figura líder es la del Gran Hermano, y quien no lo adore está en peligro constante frente al Partido. El nivel de control del Partido es impactante; vigilan a las personas 24/7, enseñan a los niños a espiar a sus familias, manejan todas las comunicaciones y hasta alteran la historia. Me marcó mucho el “doblepiensa”, técnica que las personas interiorizan para aceptar las locuras del Partido. Me hizo pensar en cuando nos negamos a reconocer algo que nos incomoda. Empezamos a leer 1984 cuando ni sabíamos del COVID-19. Y aunque las distopías incluyen elementos de la realidad, estarlo leyendo cuando inició la cuarentena fue duro (mejor leerlo con buenos ánimos 😅). Pero también me hizo analizar aún más lo que plantea y lo que estamos viviendo. Es un libro profundo del que podría hablar por horas. Lo elegí para la consigna “Un viaje a un lugar que te asuste” del #retolectoresviajeros y sí que asusta. Es increíble la cantidad de conceptos que aborda y que aún existen, a pesar de haber sido publicado hace 71 años. No por nada sigue siendo uno de los libros más vendidos hoy en día. Sinopsis: “En el año 1984 Londres es una ciudad lúgubre en la que la Policía del Pensamiento controla de forma asfixiante la vida de los ciudadanos. Winston Smith es un peón de este engranaje perverso y su cometido es reescribir la historia para adaptarla a lo que el Partido considera la versión oficial de los hechos.
