More than 30 #pubs from Widnes Pubwatch joined our major trauma teams online 💻 as they conducted their @KnifesaversUK training, on how to help save the life of someone who’s been stabbed. . Each venue has been given a KnifeSavers bleeding control kit, which contains life-saving trauma and #military-grade equipment ✅ . Mr Nikhil Misra, the major trauma surgeon who developed KnifeSavers, said: “During the session we taught vital skills which can help save a life in the first few minutes after someone is stabbed. Naturally, we hope that these never have to be used, but if an incident happens then we know that immediate action can save lives.” . Peter Bradley arranged the training event after the sad death of his friend, landlord Chris Thornton, who was killed in a knife attack last year. The training is the latest in a series of steps taken by Widnes PubWatch landlords which have seen a drop 📉 in drink-related crime in Widnes. . Peter said: “My friend Chris sadly had his life taken in his own pub due to knife crime. This hit his family, friends and the community hard. Quite often we receive phone calls from potential new patients who are confused because they have been referred to the DHC for headache/migraine from their current physician, but are not experiencing a “normal headache”. These patients describe their condition as “head pain” rather than a “headache”. Don’t fear, you’re in the right place! • Back of the head pain is a symptom of migraine, but it could also be a symptom common to other headache diagnoses. When these symptoms are not paired with the other frequent indications of migraine like nausea/vomiting or sensitivity to sound, light and odors it could alternatively be Occipital Neuralgia. • Occipital Neuralgia is a distinct type of headache characterized by piercing, throbbing, or electric-shock-like pain in the upper neck, back of the head, and behind the ears, usually on one side of the head. Typically, the pain of occipital neuralgia begins in the neck and then spreads upwards. • This diagnosis can be treated with other common migraine treatments such as a change in lifestyle: a healthier diet and exercise regimen. Neck pain can be relieved by heat, massage and physical therapy. If this treatment plan is unsuccessful, occipital nerve blocks or radiofrequency ablations may be an alternative action if physician deems appropriate.
