Marjorie Taylor Greene, an openly racist, QAnon conspiracy theorist who is running as the GOP’s congressional candidate in Georgia, boldly contradicted the CDC’s guidance, proclaiming that children shouldn’t wear masks because “forcing boys to wear masks is emasculating.” COVID-19 is killing people from all demographic groups, but men (especially those who aren’t white) have been disproportionately affected. In England, Black men—who are dying three times the rate of white men—have the highest mortality rate of any other group. The same thing is happening in America, with men overrepresented in the death toll. And yet they are less likely to wear masks. And still, we propagate the idea that protection is unmanly, and that boys must put themselves and others at risk to prove they have value in our society. Boys are not soldiers, they are humans. Today marks one year without my mom here. She left us suddenly last year in Ireland while visiting family. She changed her flight last minute to go earlier than planned to help out my sister and surprise her sister on her birthday. That’s the way that my mom operated. Always selfless, no matter how many miles away you were. I remember she was so nervous to tell me she had to cancel our Mother’s Day brunch. I of course told her it’s totally fine and that we will have brunch whenever she gets back in town. For those of you that didn’t know, my mom was the LIFE of the party. Always knew how to get a room up and dancing, we always had the best times no matter what was going on. Loved her glass(es) or bottle(s) of really cheap Sauvignon Blanc that she bought down the street and all the associates knew her by name. She had this contagious laugh that carried throughout the room like no other laugh. She answered every phone call, every text, every annoying FaceTime from me because that’s who she was. She would’ve been 60 this year, I remember her saying she didn’t want to do anything big because of the wedding (please). A selfless mom who always gave her all. I hope to be the kind of mom she is one day. A big part of me left when she left us, I miss her more and more every day. I think about having my wedding day without you here when you were so happy the day we got engaged, having kids without you here, every milestone. Then I remember your gentle, funny, sweet soul, and the memories burn inside me and always will. I cherish them more than you know. There is no love like a Mothers, and I believe that. Ура, пост на русском ✨ Очень часто я предпочитаю писать здесь на английском, потому что знаю, что мне так комфортнее и что за своё «рАдИкАлЬнОе» мнение я получаю предъявы, когда пишу на русском. Русский язык у меня ассоциируется с «где-то там, в Украине, где я молчу в тряпочку о феминизме и ЛГБТ, а про бодипозитив уж тем более ни-ни». Какая-то грустная ассоциация выходит. Я очень изнеженный человек и вообще чувствую себя комнатным растением, ведь пока я нахожусь в ЮК я ограждена от гомофобных шуток, от каких-либо замечаний по поводу внешнего вида прохожих, от блэкфейса на первом канале, от блевотных шуток про Беларусь на «comment out». Очень легко быть толерантным, понимающим и не токсичным человеком, когда таковым является твоё окружение. Когда тебе не надо объяснять что такое феминизм или что такое небинарность. Легко жить в эхо-камере, где комфортно и кажется, что все люди солнышки и как и ты поддерживают BLM или понимают разницу между полом и гендерном. Это очень привилегированная позиция вытекающая из кучи возможностей данных мне родителями. Вот поэтому чаще всего я пишу на английском, что с одной стороны - комфортно, а с другой где-то трусливо и выглядит как попытка избежать конфликтов. Хотя я очень люблю диалог. К сожалению, на моей практике попытки диалога часто заканчиваются фразой «я не знаю что это [феминизм, квир теория, гендер, и тд.] такое и знать не хочу!». Our “nation of immigrants” came from white people who fled oppression and tyranny, stormed a land that was already occupied, murdered and raped millions of the people who lived there, and then kidnapped millions of black and brown people and enslaved them. So. Unless you are a Native American, you are either a descendent of an immigrant, an immigrant yourself, or a descendant if someone who was captured from their homeland and forced into slavery, most likely by white people. . So many of our parents, grandparents, and great grandparents came to America to pursue the “American Dream.” We well up with pride when we talk about how our families came here with nothing but the clothes on their backs, worked hard at jobs that other people wouldn’t do, all for the chance to give their children (us) a better life. . Why are so many of us thankful for our ancestors struggles and all that they did, but are somehow okay with how immigrants are treated now? . ICE is FORCING women to have hysterectomies. Kids and families are separated and put in cages with no medical care and no hope. What if this was your family’s story? Many of us wouldn’t be here. . ICE and the Trump administration clearly have no care for human life. They have proved this time and time again. If this is okay with you- if your response is “well they should’ve come here the right way” you clearly don’t either. . Where are all of the pro-life voices? Where are all of the “All Lives Matter” voices? If you are pro-life, forced sterilization should make you mad. If “All Lives Matter” to you, you should be banging down ICE’s doors and demanding care and justice for immigrants. .
