Vattentornet är 44,5 meter högt med tegel från Helsingborg och Hyllinge och innehöll 900 kubikmeter vatten. Vattentornet användes till 1958 och byggdes om till bostäder 1988. Ventilen på bilden användes i tornet. The old water tower in Linköping. Built in 1910 in art noveau style. Architect was Axel Brunskog, well known architect in Linköping. The tower is 44,5 meter high and was used until 1958. ✌️ so long to the Graffiti Highway✌️ This longtime slice of Americana was a destination for so many photographers, explorers and other curious people thru the years. Due to safety hazards from visitors , the road was very recently covered entirely in dirt, to help steer people away. Located in The town of Centralia, this was once Route 61 that cut thru a bustling coal mining community in eastern Pennsylvania. The highway was shut down and closed in 1993 due to safety reasons from the Centralia coal mine fire underground. In 1962 a fire was started at the local dump to burn some trash . That fire spread and eventually hit one of the underground vents to the abandoned coal mine shafts underneath the town. Due to how long coal burns and how the coal viens run, stopping it would have to be a feat of modern engineering,so the fire still burns underground to this day!! The town was abandoned for the most part it’s residents were moved, relocated , etc over the years. The post office cut off service in 2002 . The current population is estimated to be around 7 residents, still sticking it out. We went to check it out in the fall , back in 2017 and the town was definitely eerie. The sun was setting , no one in sight, warning signs on gates & fences, grass grown up where houses once were. Nature really doing it’s best to take back its stronghold on the place. You can still see steam coming out of the vents & cracks in the abandoned roads, a very surreal experience, and very cool! Stumbled across this building while walking through @visitwashingtondc and the gold dome along with the @Starbucks store on the bottom level drew me in. The Atcheson / Folsom Home. 1895 In August of 1895, Lewis D. Folsom purchased a lot in the center of the 800 block of Center Street for $450. Here he built the stylish two-story, eight-room home at 829, with its typical Queen Anne adornments such as spindle trim above the porch and windows, and elegant turret with its fish scale roof. Born in Maine, Folsom had come to Nevada in 1874 and opened a store in Gold Hill. He met Mary Keville, who had come west from Massachusetts and the two married in Dayton. Ten years later they moved to Reno, where with a partner named Gallatin, Folsom bought out Jerry Schooling’s grocery business. The house was designed and built by architect George E. Holesworth, who that same year was appointed supervising architect for the University. It featured the latest conveniences including a modern range, gas and electric lights in every room, and a dumb waiter comprised of shelves that could be raised or lowered to the cellar at the push of a finger. The foundation was made of stone from a quarry north of Reno owned by Robert L. Fulton. The house’s completion was such a notable event that the newspaper raved in December of 1895, “in point of architectural beauty and modern convenience it is doubtful if there is another residence in town that can equal it.” Lewis died in 1918 but Mary Folsom remained in the Center Street home she loved for many more years. Around 1943, the home was purchased by Katie Atcheson. and was later passed down to her son Merle and his wife Mary, a talented and much-in-demand pianist. Their son Fred, a local attorney, occupied the house and continues to live there to this day. He divided the home into apartments and rented to university students. He sold the property to the University of Nevada, Reno in early 2016 and in 2019 it was announced that this property along with others in the Gateway District will be demolished to make way for UNR expansion. There are many Second Empire style homes on Palisade Ave in the Heights. They vary in construction, some are wood framed others are masonry, size, detail and condition. This one by Christ Hospital is constructed of brick on all sides with wood floor and roof joists and wood partitions. Typically the front and rear walls have either 2 or 3 wythes of brick (horizontal courses) which means the brick is structural and not a veneer. This house has much of its detail intact including window sills and detailed heads (lintels) which appear to be brownstone. The architrave entry lintel is missing along with the original entry door. The wood door surround and transom are hard to see but are there. The windows are wood 2 over 2. This past Saturday we lost one of the regulars But as many St. Lawrence Market merchants, staff and customers will tell you Eddie Shack was anything but regular. For the last 30 years or more you could often find Eddie eating his way through the Market on Saturday mornings. He would make is rounds by getting a fresh bun from Carousel Bakery, hot side bacon from Carniceros or the former Witteveen Meats, a a slice of cheese from Olympic Cheese and lots of honey garlic mustard from Kozliks mustard. He would bring the massive sandwich to Whitehouse Meats and the staff would wrap it up in butcher paper for him. Market staff have said that Eddies prominent booming voice was a constant source of comfort on Saturdays, signaling that the end of the work week had arrived. Known through his NHL career as the entertainer he was always eager to entertain at the Market. When customers recognized him in his big cowboy hat he was happy to stop and take a selfie or sign an autograph. He often brought Market merchants Toronto Maple Leafs memorabilia. If you look closely around the Market you may notice a number of Shack Shrines in the shops, filled with Maple Leafs items and signed photos that Shack had brought them. [The plaque in this photo is from Olympic Cheeses Shack Shrine.] Eddie made sure that St. Lawrence Market merchants all knew his favourite jokes and sometimes even lent a hand for special occasions. Before his NHL career he briefly worked as a butcher in his hometown of Sudbury, Ontario. He put those skills to great use for the one year anniversary of one of the Markets butcher shops, working the butcher counter (and the crowd) the whole long Saturday Market day. Eddie Shacks massive, mighty and spirited presence will be greatly missed at the Market. He filled the Market with this presence every time he visited and will continue to fill it with the many stories and memories that he has left behind. The St. Lawrence Market, our merchants and staff would like to express our deepest sympathy to the Shack family, Eddies wife Norma and children Catherine, Ralph and James. Just over a month ago, a local protest in support of #blacklivesmatter gathered in Covington, GA (aka #TVD’s Mystic Falls) and began a conversation about removing the monument to confederate soldiers that is in the center of the town square. A lot of letters and signatures later, as of last night the Newton County Board of Commissioners voted to have the statue moved into storage. It makes me so happy that no cast, crew or fan of #TVD or #legacies will have to be subjected to the pain and discomfort and racist ideals that statue represents. It’s a big, beautiful win and a much needed piece of good news. Thank you to everyone who wrote letters and signed the petition. You were a part of making change. - @julieplec on Instagram

@mayorpaterson, in close consultation with @kflaph Medical Officer of Health Dr. Kieran Moore and @kingstonpolice, has issued a new emergency order to discourage congregating and loitering downtown and more effectively address the risk of COVID-19.
