The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has awarded a $40 million award to the North Carolina-based Center for Hybrid Approaches in Solar Energy to Liquid Fuels (CHASE) to accelerate fundamental research of the production of fuels from sunlight. Taking the new MacPro to the next level: x16 PCIe quad M.2 NMVE RAID-0 cache drive. Initial readings show over 7GB/s write and over 6GB/s read. Some users with a similar setup are showing between 9-12GB/s but I’m initially trying this RAID using SoftRAID (instead of the HighPoint software). Even the data rates I’m getting now are good for what I need but if I care to tinker, I may try the HighPoint software at some point to see if it’s even faster (oh, and these PCIe cards can be stacked for a claimed speed of 28GB/s 🤯🤯). I don’t like using cache read/write on the main QNAP SAN RAID (even though it too has internal dual-M.2 aggregate cache) so I finally decided to instal this internal quad M.2 RAID array for the proper cache task. All my PCIe slots are officially used up but one of the other cards will be omitted in the next couple months. Yeah, this MacPro workstation is F***ING INSANE. Dear friends, I’m very excited announce our studio’s collaboration with the UCLA Neuroimaging Collective to build a dynamic network between neuroscience and the arts that will shed further light on the expansion and communication of the Lifespan Human Connectome Project’s (HCP) research. Refik Anadol, a media artist, director, and lecturer at UCLA, and Dr. Taylor Kuhn, a clinical neuropsychologist, research neuroscientist, and coordinator for the HCPs at UCLA, will join forces and share their investigative tools to tackle one of the greatest scientific challenges of our century - mapping the human brain to connect its structure to function and behavior. By training machine-learning algorithms on the HCP’s MRI, fMRI and DTI data sets from people between ages 0-100+, Anadol will encourage artificial intelligence to make its own patterns, resulting in a free-form imagining of human neural networks. Together, HCP and RAS will be able to move through the elusive brain space and neural architecture using their respective scientific, technological, and aesthetic models, opening a novel room of interdisciplinary inquiry into our mind-spaces. FIGHTING FREQUENCY MASKING Frequency masking and “making space” for sounds is a big part of what a mixer does to a song. From making the low end components of kicks and basses work together as well as keeping vocals clear above other instruments, dynamic EQ can be a powerful tool. This is where the McDSP AE600 Active Equalizer comes in. For this example we used a big “subby” bass and an equally big and “subby” kick.Our goal here is to achieve a heavy and punchy kick without compromising the low end of our bass. First, set up a mono send to a buss of your choosing from the kick track. Second, load up the AE600 on your bass track and set the key input to the aforementioned buss. On the lowest ACTIVE band, set the mode to LS-BX and turn down the Frequency and Gain controls. Make the Ratio high, Attack and Release fast and, most importantly, set the Input trigger for that band to EXT (external). Now every time the kick hits, the low frequencies of the bass will dip. This will keep the bass’ volume intact but lets the kick’s low end jump forward without restraint and without muddying up the mix. This also saves us a lot of headroom allowing us to make the mix louder. Grammy-winning mixing engineer Mick Guzauski (Daft Punk, Prince, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera) says “I have always been a fan of the AE400. The AE600 builds on that plugin with a better user interface and two additional dynamic bands plus the addition of fixed bands. There are many good multi-band dynamics plugins on the market, but this one is unique in that its a dynamically controlled parametric equalizer. It excels in controlling narrow peaks and dips in vocals and other instruments. The work of @djangelouk as it relates tø #TTM #skratch #notation :: UK turntablist, producer & teacher, Dj Angelo, has been releasing numerous insiteful dj tutorials over the past decade in the midst of his international tours. In the summer øf 2013 Dj Angelo began to teach his thousands øf students across the globe TTM #BPMGeometry depicted at the top half of the screen. These 7 examples were used to illustrate how a #turntablist #composer can create a #skipless #battle #record using ableton live. Below these video clips are 10 examples of bpm geometric diagrams released earlier that year in the original Periodic Matrix of Skratches by TTM Academy. At the far right of the screenshot is a #BPMmatrix example of the core geometric equations used to discover the magic skipless speeds found in the Periodic Matrix as well as the hundreds of speeds in the BPM Matrix. Its important to note that many of the speeds in Dj Angelos video #examples are rounded to two decimal places and will eventually deviate from their skipless grid due to this fact. So 33.33 bpm is near 33 and 1/3 bpm but its not the exact number. Most software programs round their bpms and dont give producers the ability to create perfect #fractions and or repeating numbers. @oeksound spiff and @fabfilter_plugins Saturn 2 are both great plugins. One of my friends, Henry from the #21snaps mentioned using it in delta mode for kicks. So basically all I do is duplicate my kick and then click delta. Instant transient and transient only. I can then saturate it with Saturn, filter it if need be, or whatever and my kick is ripping through the speaker. ( in a good way) Such a great move. - @mixedbymatty on Instagram

I use it mostly for clean up EQ, light compression, de-essing, and a touch of saturation if needed. Episode 3 of the Schematic series is a slick, high-energy electro session brought to you by none other than Ben Rothes, founder of the Dundee based label Hilltown Disco. Running HD alongside loveable compatriots Matt and Malloch, the trio have overseen significant progress with the label in such a short timeframe. Having only started in 2017 HD has already released six EPs on the imprint, with four of those on vinyl and a fifth coming in June. With carefully curated casts of international artists and an all proceeds to charity Art Angel series, here we have a label for which the sky is the limit. Alongside renowned disco legend Dicky Trisco, Ben is also co-founder of Non-Stop. Non-Stop allows Rothes to venture into a slightly different sound than he does with HD, most recently booking Prins Thomas until the plans were foiled by COVID19. Prior to this they had booked Paramida and Paranoid London as well as hosting some great b2b all night long resident’s nights. An intelligent selector who is always equipped with a deep bag of heat, you know exactly what you’re going to get time and time again from Ben. We’ve had the pleasure of hearing Dansa mixing on numerous occasions, whether it be in the club with Palidrone, on EH-FM hosting the Palidrone show or smashing it at the sweaty afters, he never disappoints. His exemplary ability to bridge the gap and hop between genres brings world class selectors such as Objekt to mind. This particular mix displays this perfectly as Dansa flawlessly glides between different sounds at will, replicating that peak club energy we all miss dearly.
