Hi friends of the gram. 2020 wedding season started two weeks ago and just like that, it is over for me. (With 3 postponements next summer) Next month I will be a full time student again for the first time in over a decade. The rest of this is just information for those who have any amount of interest in what’s happening with this lovely little biz. I stopped taking new wedding inquiries late last year in hopes of change of some kind. I needed it desperately. And for what felt like the first time in my life, timing was definitely on my side. As 2020 started, I decided to apply at a college in the city my parents live in. To my surprise, they let me in. With the start of the pandemic, I sold my home and tried to stay afloat until I moved. In the middle of the pandemic, I moved to Iowa. I currently, actually, live in a cornfield. The sunsets are beautiful here. I’ve found some real pause that I haven’t had since I thought “hustling” was the only way to live. I don’t want to live in a hustle any longer. So, we change when we need it. I’m not sure what else to share here, or even if I should or if you’d want it. Doesn’t matter either way, really. That’s what I’ve learned and will take away from every experience, mistake or success I’ve had in the last 6 years; what actually matters. It isn’t likes, it isn’t followers, it isn’t how many styled shoots get featured. It’s making it to my daughter’s soccer games every Saturday. It’s summer vacation. It’s having time to plant a garden. It’s caring about flowers again. I lost a lot of the feelings that made me want to do this, I took on too much. So, we reset when we need it. I want to thank you for being here with me. Thank you for loving the flowers and thinking what I make is special. Thank you for stopping me in the grocery store and asking if I’m “Meg Catherine”, I think it’s hilarious, but awesome and made me feel like I was in a band. When I finish school, I will come back to the wedding world a little bit, I think. Until then, you might see a picture of my dog or a cornfield at sunset. Hopefully a bouquet inbetween. Louie update. I think he knows he’s home. When we first got him he was so afraid of Ray. He barked whenever he came into the room and never came near. Now look at him ❤️ He started having puppy dreams, which means he’s decompressing and is less stressed. We no longer have to hand feed him and he’s gained all the weight he needed to. He loves his walks and treats. Knowing that his previous owners were not good to him makes my blood boil. Hi there. I haven’t posted in a minute (other than my stories). I am hesitant to say on here that I am really sad, but I thought maybe I should say it anyway. I’m mostly hesitant that I will seemingly diminish the pain that any of my closest friends are feeling right now. I know I’m not the only one...by far. . We are 8 days into mourning the death of our friend Zach. The devastation his precious family is feeling is hard to comprehend. My heart is broken in a million pieces for a hundred reasons that individually jump up and grab me by the throat in a viscous rotation throughout the day. I know this just takes time, so it’s time I will trust. . . I am really trying to stay caught up on emails, but I know at the moment there are a few unreads. You are important to me and I will respond soon! 🙂 . . The good news is I had a glorious wedding reception set-up today and by the time I was finished with the last touches I was in way better spirits than I’ve been for 8 days. . . So thank you flowers. You fought your condition for so long and I dedicated every single minute I had to you give you everything you needed...I was your helicopter dog mum. Then, Friday night, I knew you weren’t well. Driving to the vet in the early hours of the morning, everything was calm. It was cold, drizzling rain, the moon was big and beautiful. Our favourite weather. You were rugged up in your blanket in my arms - warm as toast - and ‘Tears in Heaven’ came on the radio. I knew at that very moment this would be our last drive together. I held you until your last breath and we sat there, just you and me, listening to the rain as I told you how much I loved you. I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect way to spend our last minutes together. You gave me nothing but unconditional love for almost 15 years - half of my life - and I loved you more than life itself. I’ll miss you every single day baby girl and I’ll never, ever forget you. 💕 Thank you to @manlyroadvet who provided us with the most kind and loving vet to help Occy in her time of need. Some days are completely predictable and some days you get a call from @goodmorningamerica at 4:30 in the afternoon while napping with your toddler for a 6pm video interview about a nationwide furniture shortage and creating remote learning spaces for your kids so you have to pull yourself together as well as a suitable, well-styled, backdrop for said interview. So you text your stylish and zoom meeting pro friend for moral support and advice, make some hotdogs for the kids (and pray that they don’t walk in to the interview space asking to be wiped 🧻 💩), style a quick vignette as best as possible, and ensure that none of the other junk nor dust bunnies will be visible. Then you take a deep breath and try to get something out that makes sense. Yes, that was my Tuesday afternoon. There’s a 50% chance that what I chatted to a writer about today will not even air on TV, but I am just over the moon to have been asked. If nothing, I got to style a new vignette and this cute picture. I am so grateful for the adventures that the Adored House has taken me on in the last 2.5 years and all of the opportunities it has given to me. I’ve never set the bar too high for myself on here or expected very much, and it’s just been so much fun! Tune in to GMA tomorrow morning and you might just catch a glimpse of this lady. It feels like an activity from another phase of life, and for a long time I just wanted the work to speak for itself. But I’ve come to realize something: If I don’t own *my* identity, how will people like me know they’re welcome here? I have such an incredibly diverse community of kind, smart, and talented friends, family, and fellow artists, and I’m pleased to be growing a client base that mirrors the community I cherish. And yes, children are great motivators for starting a business of your own. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ If Im being honest, mine isnt the why behind me starting my business. He IS the reason I had to take my business seriously. But well get to that part... ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I actually tried to start my business before Liam was even a concept. I always knew, going into college, that I wanted to do whatever the hell I wanted to do for work. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I was a dreamer, a true creative, and I wanted to cultivate change in the world through creativity. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ So at the final hour and after a million years of college, I switched my major from French to Visual Communication (Graphic Design). College is also where I learned that there are people who work for THEMSELVES doing the kind of creative work they love. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I could finally stop aspiring to be a creative director at all the agencies that wouldnt hire me because I didnt have agency experience 🙄. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ But Liam was born and America seems to hate Moms, so reality set in that if I wanted to be the present figure I dreamed of being for my child, Id have to do it MY way. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ So here we are, Liam and me at my brand shoot. He can watch Youtube on my ON BRAND phone as I work on client projects because it makes me happy to have built the business of my dreams. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ There is no shame in your dreams being the motivation for you starting your business. You are more than just a Mom. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Its ok to let your kid see you work. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Yes I have Mom guilt but Mommy can take us on trips and randomly take a day or 5 off to just spend time with him. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 𝐀𝐧𝐝 𝐓𝐇𝐀𝐓 𝐢𝐬 𝐦𝐲 𝐰𝐡𝐲.
