One indication that I need a break incl. a break from Instagram – is when I loose confidence and become anxious about my design work. This little number I just finished was part of a learning chapter in an 80’s workbook on Passap machines! It was originally for a child (for fast learning) but I liked how the fabric was coming out so much that I used a pattern calculator for an adult size. For those of you that remember, I held together one strand of white cotton and one strand of acrylic and for some reason the white came out in front... most of the time. I just think it looks so cool like this! Jos kävisin deiteillä, olisi se nyt otollisinta! 🌗Luteaalivaiheessa eli kierron syksyllä huomaan kaipaavani enemmän kotoilua ja lämpimiä täyttävämpiä ruokia. Lohi ja perunamuusi tuntuu nyt täydelliseltä aterialta ja tummaa suklaata kuluu tavallista enemmän. Mieli saattaa olla tavallista kireämpi ja vatsaa turvottaa helpommin. We are delighted to see the launch of this beautiful Fair Isle Shetland jumper as part of clothing company @toast new autumn collection. The design was inspired by a hand-knitted scarf on permanent display in Shetland Museum and Archive’s textiles gallery and has been knitted using Shetland wool from @thewoolbrokers. It’s a wonderful example of how native Shetland wool and historical textiles are still so relevant and how our collections continue to inspire. We were pleased to work with @toast to bring this design and its historical origins wider attention. The donor of the original scarf said it dated from 1933. It was bought from a woman knitting by the side of the road, by a visitor to the Spiggie Hotel, a popular venue with tourists, being so close to St Ninian’s isle. We don’t know the name of the knitter but she likely made garments for sale to holiday-makers, as this would have been a lucrative trade. Knitting outside near the hotel was one way to advertise your work, besides getting some summer sun! This was a tremendous boom time for fair isle knitwear – only 10 years after the Prince of Wales popularised it for fashion, and it was worn extensively by men and women. Some of the colours in the scarf may be leftovers from other fair isle garments the knitter had made. We have other scarves with a large number of interesting and unusual colours and these seem to be made to use up odds and ends of yarns. This was common practice, especially for small garments such as gloves and scarves, or one’s own children’s knitwear, and was easy to do with small-scale fair isle patterns. Like all fair isle design, there was always the use of at least one, but usually two natural colours, no matter how many dyed shades were used. This helped to ground the dyed colours and in this period fawn and moorit, combined with natural white, were the most popular neutrals. The overall colourway, soft dyed colours on a fawn background, was very much in vogue in the early 1930s and is reflected in contemporary Shetland tweed sample colourways, also in the Museum’s collection. - @shetlandmuseum on Instagram

Dan weet ik echt al of ik een energieke dag heb of dat alles me moeite kost. Vandaag is zo’n dag, gelukkig zijn de kids een dagje bij oma en heb ik m helemaal voor mezelf en de buik-baby’s want die zijn heel blij met zo’n relaxte dag van mama! 22+ weken zwanger van twee en voel me op zich heel goed. Op de dagen na waar de energie ver te zoeken is. Het lichaam spreekt, weet ik dan. Gelukkig kan ik dan meestal wel een tandje minder. My Be Thankful cardigan is the perfect thing to wear on a crisp fall day like today. . I completed this one back in early Aug, but had to wait a month for the buttons to arrive. Thats what happens when I order from etsy without checking seller location, lol. Then I had to make myself find the time to actually sew the buttons on and redo a wonky bit of neckline bindoff. I still havent put this on the blocking mat, but Ive worn it twice because of how cozy it is. The KFI angora merino is fabulous even if it sheds all over my other clothes. Note to self: dont wear this with black knit pants again. 🙄 . Im pretty happy with how the blending of the two completely disparate colorways turned out. Its far more rose than I normally ever wear, but it was a good save after I screwed up. The yarn has been discontinued for years. I picked up three skeins at a thrift store for $6 total. I thought I was buying two more of the same colorway on Ravelry, but I misread. The Ravelry purchase was rose, purple, grey, and mauve instead of the gold, green, orange, and mauve of the thrift store yarn. Overall, its pretty great for under $20 of non- matching angora merino yarn! . Finished! . This one could have been finished two or three weeks ago if I hadnt kept starting new projects. 😆 It is a comfortable light sweater. I deliberated matching the sleeves and neckline to the body, but decided I wanted to play with the gradient, so I let yarn flow and let the contrast exist. I did make sure the colors blended on the back where I joined to work in the round after doing back and front to the sleeves, though. I didnt want a harsh line there. .
