This type of #fishing activity requires physical #endurance combined with a #knowldege of crab #behavior and the #environment People such as Roberto Nascimento and Joao Costa collect crabs which are hidden up to 1meter under the mangrove sediments in and around their root systems. They locate the crabs by finding faint bell-like structures on the surface of the sediments. So theres this pic that I come across every so often. Ive seen it on docos, movies and on socials. I grew up staring at this photo. The man on the left, directing the people is my grandfather Risati Eteuati. The 2 girls near him are his daughters, my aunts. Ive heard many stories of him, mostly of how much of a great leader and how handsome he was. They were leaving theyre home Tokelau to go to NZ on a scheme NZ had initiated to fight the over population Tokelau was facing in the 70s. They left everything knew, created businesses, communities with broken or no English at all. They felt the fear trusted God and moved anyway. It dawned on me a couple weeks ago. Myself and so many other NZ Pacific people now living in Australia are 2nd generation Pacific people. Our babies are now 1st generation Australians! Our people are always moving, adapting, surviving, feeling the fear, trusting God and moving anyway. Can I encourage someone? Someone feeling terribly afraid of what is ahead but they do want to start something- a business, a book, whatever. Trust in God. Even if you dont believe in Him, if youre tried everything else, may as well try Jesus 🤷🏽♀️. Because like the people in this pic they felt the fear, but they trusted God and moved anyway. Forest beekeeping is a common and traditional practice in Ethiopia. Some hives are made out of hollowed out trunks of dead trees, and are strung 20-30m. It takes around three days to make a forest hive, and they can survive in a tree for almost a decade. 🌳🍯 The second largest source of income in Ethiopia, after coffee, honey is sold in tubs at local markets. It’s popularly used for tej, a mead brewed with honey, water, and gesho. Every day is a bonus. This is WWII veteran Joe Demler of Port Washington, Wisconsin. The first photo was taken in Spring 1945, at the German Prison Camp Stalag XII-A in Limburg, Germany. During WWII, Joe served his country with the 137th Infantry Regiment, 35th Infantry Division, and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. For Demler, the Battle of the Bulge came to an end on the night of Jan. 4 when a German Panzer IV tank fired a shot through a stone building where he was acting as a lookout on the second floor. The impact launched Demler from the floor into the ceiling. Two companies of American soldiers, more than 300 including Demler, were captured, interrogated and packed into train cars to a prisoner of war camp. The Germans took Demlers weapon, ammunition and rations. His overcoat, the one thing that had kept him alive during the bitter cold, was burned at his POW camp because of lice. Each day 10 men shared one pound of cheese and a loaf of German rye bread made mostly of sawdust. Demler rapidly lost weight. As more American POWs arrived, Demler learned the war would end soon. On the day he was liberated in April 1945, Demler weighed only 69 pounds. A Life photographer embedded with liberation troops snapped Demlers photo, published a short time later in Life magazine. Doctors estimated he would have likely died within three days had the war not ended when it did. Day after day, this 19-year-old prisoner went through true hell, but he survived. He later said: What kept me going? The will to live. You always look forward to living. Thats what kept you alive. You prayed & thought positively all the time. Every day is a bonus. It took Demler months to regain his strength before he returned home to Wisconsin, where he worked at the post office for 37 yrs, retiring in 1982. He raised three children with his wife, Therese. You cant have a defeated attitude. Thats why Im alive, said Demler. Every day I think about it. It never goes away. Joe Demler passed away in February of this year. He is now at eternal rest. Estamos concluindo o último trecho que faltava para concluir as obras da Rua Pintor Manoel Bandeira, em Casa Caiada. A via recebeu terraplanagem, pavimentação e drenagem, e será feita ainda a sinalização de trânsito. A obra foi realizada através de emenda parlamentar da Deputada Luciana Santos (PCdoB). A via tem aproximadamente 700 metros. O término da obra irá ajudar a melhorar o tráfego em Olinda, porque permitirá uma nova ligação da região da Av. Carlos de Lima Cavalcanti com a FUNESO, facilitando o acesso à PE-15 e à Perimetral. Essa era uma grande reivindicação dos moradores da rua. Há mais de 25 anos, que as pessoas que moram ou que utilizam a via para se locomover, lutavam para que fosse asfaltada.
