Sadly, we lost one of our iconic white oak trees today at the Cheek-Spruill Farmhouse. We are so thankful that the driver was not hurt. YACHT SALVAGE UNDERWAY Back in May, 2020 this yacht slipped it moorings and wound up on the beach in front of the lead lights at Lancelin‘s dunes. Some four months later Department of Transport have had to arrange a salvage crew to remove the stricken vessel and they are currently on the beach with one of two cranes they hope will do the job. Weather a storm about to hit, very soft sand and a heavy concrete hull boat filled with sand, this will prove quite a challenge. On Wednesday July 15th at 11:34 AM the Morris Township Fire Dept. responded to reported Structure Fire on Sand Spring Rd. Engine 1 was the first arriving engine and found a light smoke condition. Former Hillside volunteers and current Township career Firefighters Matt Kaufhold and Dan Goss entered the structure to conduct a search for the family dog and source of the smoke. Upon entering the basement Firefighters Kaufhold and Goss discovered the fire to be in a utility room. They quickly removed the dog from the basement and delivered it to the family outside. Firefighters Jay Alderton and Tahj Valintine stretched a hose line to the basement and made quick work of the fire. Firefighters checked for extension on the 1st and 2nd floors. The fire was contained to the basement area. Mutual Aid from @fmbalocal43, @morrisplainsfire23 and Madison assisted on scene, @ironiafirecompany, @brookside_engine_co._1, @mounttaborfd and @new_vernon_fire_department filled the cover assignment while Morris Township operated at the Fire. - @hillsidehosecompany on Instagram

Another historic house being demolished in our community today at 197 Arlington Avenue. Built in 1898 with a sister house to the left at 195. The excavator had to be positioned as a brace to hold the corner up because it was about to fall onto 195. Nothing protects our older homes unless they have visible original workmanship on the facade. It was all hiding under the vinyl siding. I have a voice- and I refuse to hesitate to use it.. to speak up for those that struggle to be heard. Nobody deserves to experience what I did today- but I’m glad it happened to me. This guy that works for @traffic_plan stirred the wrong pot this morning- trying his racist antics with me, with my 3 year old daughter in my arms. I politely asked if he would let me drive past the cones, as my driveway was one home away from the street corner. And the construction was all the way down on the other side of the street. He laughed at me and said, “Oh yeah you live on this block? Then park right here (in a, “this is what you get for lying demeanor,” pointing to an area jammed into a corner behind another vehicle right before my driveway on a dangerous corner- as if I were being punished for “lying” .. because he refused to move his truck that was only acting as a barricade, not actually doing any construction) As I moved into that weird spot, he kept laughing over at his colleague saying, “These people always lie.” So I asked him to move his truck because I WASNT lying- and I had my daughter in the car with me, so I wasn’t going to park in a dangerous area just because he told me to do that. He finally moved his van because he realized that I wasn’t the POS that he thought I was. I parked in my driveway and grabbed my daughter out of the car, and walked over to him and told him that I didn’t appreciate that he just assumed I was lying to him. Instead of a very simple apology, He instead said, “I deal with YOU KIND OF PEOPLE all the time and all you do is lie.” (wtf does that even mean? Initial judgement of me couldn’t have been based on the shitty car I drive- because I drive a brand new BMW. So at first glance, what was his judgement of me based off of?) So I snapped a few photos and he continued using foul language toward me with my daughter in my arms- saying “GO AHEAD CALL MY BOSS.” He also had the nerve to call ME ignorant. MULTIPLE CAR CRASH Approximately 8:00pm on Saturday September 5, 2020, Fire Rescue Units from Fire Stations 5 and 31 were dispatched to multiple reports of a ‘car accident with entrapment’ on the railway overpass on Sheridan Street. When they arrived, Firefighters saw three vehicles with moderate to heavy damage that were involved in the collision, with two injured occupants still trapped in one automobile. Hollywood Fire’s Special Ops Units from Station 31 then went to work stabilizing the heavily damaged vehicle and cutting the mangled steel away from the victims in order to safely extricate them from the wreckage. After some tense moments, the team freed both patients and prepared them for transport. When the #CZUComplexFire began burning in Santa Cruz County, he couldnt stop thinking about his parents who had to be evacuated from their home, and the thousands of acres burning down in the town he was born. . So, Ryan used friends airline miles to make the trip back home, then volunteered with a local paper to gain access to the burn zone. I knew that we needed to do something, but I didnt know what it was, he said. . The start of construction on #BirminghamAirport’s £30m departure lounge extension was officially marked by Aviation Minister Paul Maynard MP today (23 January). Joined by airport CEO, Nick Barton, and newly elected MP for #Meriden, Saqib Bhatti, the Aviation Minister helped to break the ground where Birmingham Airport’s biggest terminal investment in ten years gets underway. The project will provide a modern two-story extension with outdoor terrace area, growing the space by 45 per cent to create more natural light, circulation space, seating and toilets, plus five new catering units and three additional retail outlets. The Minister, Paul Maynard’s visit to Birmingham Airport is also the second stop on his UK tour of regional airports, as part of the Department for Transport’s Regional Air Connectivity Review. The review was launched recently as part of a series of measures to support regional connectivity across the UK, to ensure that people in all corners of the country benefit from prosperity and economic growth in years to come. Commenting on the development, Aviation Minister, Paul Maynard, said: “Our second city’s airport serves more than one million passengers every month, so it is vital that it has the world class facilities and state-of-the-art infrastructure it deserves. “This modern extension to the departure lounge will be good news for the whole of Birmingham, helping boost the local economy while still supporting the airport’s wider commitment of becoming net zero by 2033.” The departure lounge extension will be 21 metres tall at its highest point and over 130 metres long. It will use one thousand tonnes of steel and at peak times will see 200 construction workers on the project. Water Resources Team manages our water portfolio to assure adequate water supplies for current and future needs, promotes water conservation, and maintains compliance with federal and state regulations. Water Production & Treatment Team oversees production, storage and treatment. The manage 16 well sites, five booster stations that pull water about 12 million gallons a day from the aquifer, treat it and send it into the distribution system. Their eight water tanks throughout the City hold more than 15 million gallons! Water Distribution Team is responsible for all the infrastructure the moves the water from the well sites to over 24,000 metered locations in the City – that’s about 338 miles of water main and 7,000 valves necessary to deliver potable water to your home or business! Wastewater Collection Team is responsible for the 237 miles of sanitary sewer and 10 lift stations that move wastewater from your home or business to our Wastewater Reclamation Facility (WRF). Water Reclamation Team receives and treats as much as 44.5 Million Gallons of sewer flow and sends over 40 million of reclaimed water to the recharge facility each week. The fascinating process removes solids, clarifies and disinfects through a series of tanks and basins. Wetlands and Recharge Team operates the 72 acres of water treatment cells in the Crystal Gardens Wetlands and the Treatment and the four basins at the McDowell Road Recharge Facility that receives between 30-40 million gallons of reclaimed water per week and recharges it in our aquifer where it all began.
