🏃🏻RUNNING PROGRESSION 🏃🏻 [ Discussing the FITT Principle ] . This one is for all those runners out there. If youre new to running, you have LIKELY experienced some aspects of pain or discomfort in your body. THIS IS FINE. The issue comes when you consistently overdo this and lead to the beginning of overuse injuries. . Heres my take on all of this: The image above is the FITT principle which stands for Frequency, Intensity, Type, Time. Therefore, this is a variation that is a bit more specific but discusses veriabilities of running. Below, I discuss all of them in order, and why I specifically listed them in the the order given. . ⏱DURATION: Initially, we want to focus on how much time we are spending on our feet. There is no point to initially say oh Im going to run 5k today because you dont actually know if you can - do NOT overexert yourself based on the distance. The reason for this is because it encompasses the concept of intensity, which is discussed later. Rather, set a goal time (10-20minutes is a good starting point) and aim for that time on your feet. If you cant run the whole time that is completely okay - you can walk as needed. . ⏱FREQUENCY: If you begin with one bout of 10 minutes simply break this in half - giving you two bouts of 5 minutes. Note that the total is still 10 minutes. You can then add in another bout, and continue from there. My recommendation is to do FOUR bouts of running per week if you are able. These runs dont all have to be a long run either, you can have some light shorter runs in there too. The point is that we want to stress the body more frequently, providing more of a stimulus to change. . ⏱DISTANCE: You should only progress your program by approximately 10% at a time, and only increase the distance within one run by 10% as well. For example, if you are currently running 5k two times weekly (10k total), your next week should not exceed 11k total OR 5.5k / run. This would give you the opportunity to add in a third run if you wish. An example of this would be 5.5k, 3.5k, 2k every other day. . I’m very excited to share my acceptance into the @whisfilmfest Screenwriters Lab with “Miracle Mother,” an adaptation of my mother’s (@kimmettonthecouch) Governor General’s Award-nominated play. The story is loosely based on her experience of giving birth to my sister, who was three months premature, and the subsequent struggle to find peace and forgiveness within herself, with her mother, and her spirituality. It has been a cathartic practice slipping on my mother’s shoes, reworking and adapting her play and our family’s story. By immersing myself in her experience of having two children less than a year apart (at the same age I am now), I’ve tapped into a well of empathy that gets to the heart of what I hope to express to the audience. The moment one sees their parents for what they are - Human. Ultimately, it’s a love letter to my mom, her art and creative drive, for which I owe my desire to create. I can’t wait to dive into this program and get this movie made. Thanks for all the love and support. I feel fortunate, honoured and privileged to have this opportunity. Four years ago today I started my company, Jeramie McPeek Communications. I’m still not completely comfortable with the name, though, as the business is not about me. It’s about the amazing clients that my team and I get to work with, helping to tell their brand stories through digital and social media. Currently that means managing 50+ channels for 10+ clients, who have a combined 3 million+ followers. I do not share that to pat myself on the back, but to express my deep gratitude to so many people. The biggest thing I’ve learned over these four years is the importance of relationships. I was confident that with 24 years of experience working in sports and entertainment, that I could support my family through my new venture. But what I didn’t know was how many people that I had worked with over the years who would reach out to offer us consulting jobs, or who would recommend us to their colleagues and contacts. In fact, the majority of our clients have come by way of word of mouth. So as we kick off year five, I pause to thank my hard-working and talented team, our incredible clients who entrust us to represent them, and to all of you who have encouraged, coached, hired and endorsed us along the way. On September 24, 1989, the headline of Michelangelo Signoriles article in OutWeek magazine read: AIDS Activists Storm Stock Exchange, Halting Trading.⠀ -⠀ The article reported on the September 14, 1989, noontime rally at the New York Stock Exchange led by ACT UP New York and targeting Burroughs Wellcome and other pharmaceutical companies that manufactured high-priced drugs to fight AIDS, such as AZT. The demonstration was planned to coincide with those held in San Francisco and London that day.⠀ -⠀ Separate from the afternoon rally, ACT UP members Peter Staley, Lee Arsensault, Greg Bordowitz, Scott Robbe, and James McGrath infiltrated the Stock Exchange that morning. They were joined by members Robert Hilferty and Richard Elovitch, who photographed the action. Chaining themselves to the VIP balcony, they dropped fake $100 bills onto the trading floor and disrupted the opening bell for the first time in history. Totally honored to be included in the mural “Utah Women 2020” celebrating two centuries of Utah women, created and organized by Jann Haworth and Alex Johnstone. When Jann asked me to stencil the film still from my performance work “Red Delicious” it seemed apropos. About 7 years earlier, we were in a show together titled “Work To Do” curated by Jeff Lambson, along with artists Pam Bowman and Trent Thursby Alvey. (Red Delicious was created for that show). To all of our collective memories at the time, it was the first major museum show in Utah dedicated solely to women artists and their work. In addition to being one of the original pop artists, Jann creates murals rooted in community that harken back to her early soft sculptures and collage/mural work on the Sgt. Pepper’s album cover. August of 2020 marks 100 years since the ratification of voting rights for (white) women in the United States. Utah is celebrating 150 years since Seraph Young was the first woman to cast her vote in February of 1870. Thanks to Zions Bank and Scott Anderson for stepping up to fund such a massive project celebrating women.
