Through sculpture, installations, and with the participation of the public, he shows that empathy can serve as a powerful expression of defiance and vice versa. In “Enemy Kitchen,” Rakowitz led Baghdadi cooking classes for middle and high school students, using his mother’s family recipes; the project seized upon the possibility of cultural visibility to produce an alternative discourse around Iraq, little known to the students apart from nightly news images of war. To Ishaan, I first saw you silently cramped up in discomfort and timidity behind that small bench with an expressionless face and lost eyes. I tried to decipher the sentiments hidden in your gaze, but it only made me wander into the backyard of my home as a child, where I sat expressionless and lost. You were different, your world was different, but a lot like mine was at once. It was filled with miracles and marvel that no one else seemed to appreciate. Your eyes scribed fables and orchestrated legends, something your grades couldn’t do. Your silence spoke volumes, just like your art did, but you never found the one to resonate with it. “पत्री से हटकर बहोत कम लोग सोच पाते है।” I often found myself gawking at the sky and wondering if I’ll ever be able to take the weariness in your eyes away. It took a while, until I recognised the catalyst of light hidden in your brain between the bristles of the brushes and the stained palettes. The darkest of blacks within you were still the brightest of whites on the canvas. You didn’t need someone to use a cane and numb your hands, instead, just someone to have a little faith in you. And while I was trying to be that someone for you, I could feel each shade of colour and every stroke of your brush and I knew a picture would never do justice to your art. Then, one find day it was your turn. You defied your fear of change, held your head high and left those who didn’t have enough faith in you awestruck. I saw you venture out in the unknown, fighting it, breaking free and then running straight into my arms like the little lost boy I spotted behind that bench. No matter where life takes you, I hope you never give up, like you didn’t back then. I hope you roll in colours you’ve never worn and dance on the canvas of life with no water colours and no fading, because this time there will be paint so thick, it’ll build up mountains, like flames sparking off your canvas. ~Writing to you as I paint my canvas quietly, hoping that it’ll be good enough to complement yours someday. One of the first people I think of when I remember 9/11 is Balbir Singh Sodhi. Sodhi and his family had arrived from India in 1985, one year after the Sikh Massacres. They built a home for themselves in Mesa, Arizona. On September 15, 2001, Sodhi became the first victim of the post-9/11 backlash in the U.S. He was planting flowers in front of his store in Arizona when he was gunned down, for no other reason except that he wore a beard and a turban. The murderer was Frank Silva Roque, a mechanic for Boeing with a criminal record. Roque had reportedly told his friends earlier that he was “going to go out and shoot some towel-heads”. After murdering Sodhi, this deranged person shot at a Lebanese clerk at a convenience store, and then went to a home where he knew an Afghan family lived and fired multiple rounds into the house. His defense attorneys in the court trials claimed that he was mentally ill and that he “heard relentless voices telling him that Arabs were Satanic and must be killed”. . Ignorance does not spare anyone, which is why we need to dismantle it together. 9/11 is painful for Americans, especially those who lost loved ones in that tragic events; for Sikhs, who have had to face horrific bigotry because they are confused with Muslims – and, it must be pointed out that 19 years later, I have yet to hear a Sikh person saying “Im not a Muslim” to defend themselves, because they are honorable people who take injustice against anyone personally; and for Muslims, who as a global community of over 1.5 billion people have been unjustly held responsible and expected to pay any price that has been asked for in exchange for even the hope of an opportunity to live a peaceful, happy life. In 1935 two Sikh men, Harbans Singh Lohgarh and Diwan Singh, were admitted as practising doctors in the UK. They both had previous medical degrees from Punjab which were augmented with study at the universities of Middlesex and Birmingham respectively. They went on to be some of the first Sikhs to serve in the NHS which this week celebrated its 72nd birthday. Dr Diwan Singh was also a very notable leader of the fledgling Sikh community acting for much of the 30s and 40s as its defacto leader. Pictured here are Dr Diwan Singh and his wife Kundan Kaur. Swamiji: When I was in Jaipur, I met a great grammarian and felt a desire to study Sanskrit grammar with him. Although he was a great scholar in that branch, he had not much aptitude for teaching. He explained to me the commentary on the first aphorism for three days continuously, still I could not grasp a bit of it. On the fourth day the teacher got annoyed and said, Swamiji, I could not make you understand the meaning of the first aphorism even in three days; I fear, you will not be much benefited by my teaching. Hearing these words, a great self - reproach came over me. Putting food and sleep aside, I set myself to study the commentary on the first aphorism independently. Within three hours the sense of the commentary stood explained before me as clearly as anything; then going to my teacher I gave him the sense of the whole commentary. My teacher, hearing me, said, How could you gather the sense so excellently within three hours, which I failed to explain to you in three days? After that, every day I began to read chapter after chapter, with the greatest ease. Through concentration of mind everything can be accomplished -- even mountains can be crushed to atoms. Disciple: Sir, everything is wonderful about you. Swamiji: There is nothing wonderful in this universe. Ignorance constitutes the only darkness, which confers all things and makes them look mysterious. When everything is lighted by Knowledge, the sense of mystery vanishes from the face of things. Even such an inscrutable thing as Maya, which brings the most impossible things to pass, disappears. Know Him, think of Him, by knowing whom everything else is known. And when that Atman is realised, the purport of all scriptures will be perceived as clearly as a fruit on the palm of ones hand. As I beheld him, so remembrance of his former greatness seemed to rise in his mind. He rose with difficulty from his couch; showed me his arms which were eaten into by disease and by flies – partly from want of water; and he said, in a lamentable voice, that he had not enough to eat.” - The Last Mughal, William Dalrymple On 19 September, 1857 The Emperor with his sons and wives was arrested at Humayuns Tomb where he had taken refuge. He was brought to Red Fort and a year later on 27 January, 1858 at 11 am with utmost humiliation his trial started. The same place where he and his ancestors had decided the fate of so many people. He was tried for waging war against the British, a consequence of Sepoy Mutiny of 1857. The trial lasted 41 days, had 19 hearings, 21 witnesses and over a hundred documents in Persian and Urdu (with English translation). Initially, Bahadur Shah Zafar did not understand when he was asked if he pleads guilty. He finally broke silence on 20th day defending himself against these charges. He defended that the young sepoys completely overtook the command and forced his seal on empty envelopes. Zafars ultimate blow came from his most trusted physician and Prime Minister Hakim Ahsanullah Khan who betrayed him by presenting evidence to the court against his own safety. Respecting Captain Hodsons guarantee, Zafar was not sentenced to death but exiled to Rangoon, Burma. Zafar, his wives and some princes began their journey in bullock carts towards Rangoon. معلومات عن سليمان القانوني 1. في أول سنة من حكمه فتح بلغراد التي تعتبر من أهم الحصن في أوربا 2.في جزيرة رودوس كانو فرسان صليبية يقتلون مسلمين أوربا وهم في طريقهم الي الحج وفي ثاني سنة في حكمه خرج مع أسطول بحري وفتحه 3كتب القرآن بيد 8 مرات وموجودة في متاحف إسطنبول 4بالشرق كان يسمي بالقانون وبالغرب كانو يسمونه أعدائه بسليمان العظيم .5 في سنة 1526 ذهب سليمان وجيشه لمقاتله ملك المجر وتحالف صليبي من ألمانيا إيطاليا وجيوش البابا و5 دول غيرها وانتصر سليمان بالمعركة وقتل ملك المجر في ساعتين وتصف فقط واستشهد 1113 وقتل 67000 الف صليبي 6مضى سليمان القانوني 10 سنين خارج إسطنبول بعديا عن أهله وطنه ليجاهد في مقدمة 7حمى قبر النبي من البرتغالين وأنقذ عشرات آلاف من مسلمين الأندلس وأرسل أسطول ليحمي الهند (عندما كانت تحت حكم المسلمين ) 7في سنة 1555 انتهت حرب العثمانيين الصفوية وفي وقع معاهده مع شاه الصفوين منع سب الخلفاء الراشدين 8 8.حرر بغداد سنة 1533 9بنى سور القدس الذي حمى القدس لمئات السنين ومازال موجود اليوم 10 عندما كان عمره 71 وإصابة المرض قرر أن يذهب على رأس جيشه وعندما نصحه الأطباء أن لا يذهب قال : اريد ان اموت وانا غازيا في سبيل الله واستشهد يوم قبل فتح سيجتوار رحمه الله - @islam.history on Instagram

As the only non-white member of the Imperial War Cabinet, he was present in the Palace of Versailles during The Signing of Peace in the Hall of Mirrors. . ABOUT:- Ganga Singh was born on the auspicious day of Vijay Dashmi on 3 October 1880 to Maharaj Shri Lal Singh Sahib and his wife Maji Shri Chandravatiji Sahiba. He was brother to Dungar Singh, whom he succeeded on 16 December 1888. He received his early education from Pandit Chandra Dube. He was educated privately at Mayo College, Ajmer, where he studied for 5 years. Later on, he was tutored by Sir Brian Egerton, who also provided him administrative training. For military training, he was sent to Deoli in 1898 and attached to the 42nd Deoli Regiment, which had the reputation of being one of the finest regiments in India under the command of Lt. Col. Bell. He served in China during the Boxer Rebellion (1900). During the First World War, he commanded the Bikaner Camel Corps which served in France, Egypt and Palestine. As a ruler, he established a Chief Court in Bikaner, presided over by a Chief Judge who was assisted by two judges. Bikaner was the first State in Rajasthan to take such a step. As well, the Maharaja served as Patron of Benares Hindu University He was also the third Chairman of the Indian Public Schools Society from 1929 to 1930. . ACHIEVEMENTS:- Singh constructed the Ganga Canal. He inspired people to come and settle in this new Command area. A large population settled there from the surrounding areas of Punjab. Among them the Sikh families mostly land owners, migrated to this region in the 1920s, when the canal was built by Maharaja Ganga Singh of the former Bikaner state bringing waters of the Satluj river from the adjoining Ferozepur District in Punjab. There were no permanent settlements in this area He developed the city of Sri Ganganagar and its surrounding area as the most fertile grain bowl of Rajasthan . Maharaja Hari Singh GCSI GCIE GCVO (23 September 1895 – 26 April 1961) was the last ruling Maharaja of the princely state of Jammu and Kashmir in India. Hari Singh was born on 23 September 1895 at the palace of Amar Mahal, Jammu, the only surviving son of Raja Amar Singh Jamwal, the brother of Maharaja Pratap Singh, then the Maharaja of Jammu and Kashmir. Since the Maharaja had no issue, Hari Singh was heir to the throne of Jammu and Kashmir. In 1903, Hari Singh served as a page of honour to Lord Curzon at the grand Delhi Durbar. At the age of thirteen, he was sent to Mayo College in Ajmer. A year later, in 1909, his father died, and the British took a keen interest in his education and appointed Major H. K. Brar as his guardian. After Mayo College, Hari Singh went to the British-run Imperial Cadet Corps at DehraDun for military training. Maharaja Pratap Singh appointed him as the commander-in-chief of the State Forces in 1915. The youthful escapades of Hari Singh included paying £300,000 for blackmail by a prostitute in Paris in 1921. That issue had resulted in a court case in London in 1924 during which the India Office tried to keep his name out of proceedings by arranging for him to be referred to as Mr A. Singh was known as a lavish spender of money. The funeral of his uncle and former ruler Pratap Singh is believed to have expended much gold and jewellery in the funeral pyre. Hari Singhs married life is dark. He married four times as his first three wives failed to give birth to his heirs. Each of them died within a few years of childlessness allowing Hari Singh to immediately take a new bride. His last wife, Tara Devi Sahiba of Kangra, had a son. Following the death of his uncle Pratap Singh in 1925, Hari Singh ascended the throne of Jammu and Kashmir. He made primary education compulsory in the state, introduced laws prohibiting child marriage, and opened places of worship to the low castes. The Seal of Maharaja Hari Singh had a Crown at the top. A katar or ceremonial dagger sat below the crown. Two soldiers held flags.
