Currently in my 3rd reverse diet in my fitness journey! I started counting macros about 4 years ago but wasn’t consistent. Followed many fed diets like whole30 & was eating low carb, low protein, and too many fats. •••• From the left that was my first progress photo I sent to my current coach, @sdangerfit … September, 2018!! I came to her doing an hour+ of cardio a day, barely lifting and under eating. I came to her yo-yo dieting & new I was overtraining. At that time I was doing competitive cheer, school cheer and running. Although my goal was to lose fat & tone up, a reverse diet was NEEDED to restore metabolism, and focus on building muscle so when I did lose some fat, “tone up” there would be visible muscle. I reversed / got up to maintenance for 8 months & began my first cut spring / into summer 2019. •••• Middle photo was taken at the end of my “slight surplus” last February so 2020. I had reversed, maintained than wanted to build more muscle so entered about my maintenance at that time eating around 1750-1900- losely tracking. I stayed there for almost 6 months & built a GOOD amount of muscle! •••• Last photo on the far right side is me NOW mid September, 2 months into reverse and not quite up to maintenance. My plan is to stay here for the fall and into the winter most til April ish then possibly do a quick cut or a longer and slower approach like I did this past one! I am not sure if I will enter a slight surplus again but time will tell. IT IS possible to gain muscle at maintenance it is just harder and takes more time. •••• Luckily, I had a lean, 4’11 frame. I have always had that athletic build so I tend to gain muscle quickly. •••• Within these 3 photos I have only lost 8 lbs but have gained A LOT of muscle & confidence !!! Going from the girl that was scared to lift weights, started using 5 lb DBs to now bench pressing 35 lbs! I have more lean muscle mass and a whole new body comp!!! Doing 1 day a week of cardio, 5 days of strength training, fueling my body properly AND eating MORE!!! Ein paar Kilos hatte ich eigentlich schon immer zu viel und irgendwie hatte ich mich damit abgefunden, dass ich eben ein bisschen moppelig bin. Solche negativen Gedanken sollte man von sich nicht haben! Kurz nochmal zu mir: mein Name ist Maike, ich bin 21 Jahre alt und komme aus Berlin. Nach zahlreichen gescheiterten Abnahmeversuchen, startete ich im November 2019 gemeinsam mit einer Freundin, einer Fitnessuhr und Ernährungsumstellung meine 12-Monats-Mitgliedschaft von Gymondo. Damit purzelten die ersten Kilos ziemlich schnell. Ich bin noch lange noch nicht da, wo ich sein will, aber dank Gymondo fühle ich mich 100 % fitter & gesünder als noch vor einem Jahr. These pictures are exactly 5 years apart. Same girl, 2 totally different lifestyles. On the left, I would eat fast food daily, worked at a bar and partied practically every night, never got adequate sleep, never thought to drink enough water, would go to the gym but had no idea what I was doing, and would change my hair color often because I thought that would make me feel better about myself and the poor choices I was making 😅 keep in mind, this picture of me on the left was BEFORE I had Charlie and AFTER I got out of the Marine Corps 😜 Fast forward to now- on the right 🙂 I consciously make choices everyday that puts myself and my health first. I got myself a coach who taught me how to properly workout which I now do 5-6 days a week, I get minimum 8 hours of sleep every night, I consume alcohol only on occasion, I learned how to properly nourish my body and stay away from overly processed foods, and I don’t feel the need to constantly change myself because I’m truly happy with myself from the inside out. This picture on the left came up today on my TimeHop and sometimes even I forget how far I’ve come in my own journey. But I literally woke up one day and was tired of my own shit, tired of my own excuses, and realized I was the only person standing in the way of my own happiness. I don’t just look better, I FEEL better. I finally feel like I’m living the life that I deserve! You don’t have to live your life feeling stuck in your own ways. Hire yourself a coach, drink your water, and make better decisions when it comes to what you put in your body and how you spend your time. Even the most successful people have their own mentors and coaches, because how else do we become better than we were yesterday? Never stop learning, never stop wanting more for yourself! September 22, 2020 My favorite #transformationTuesday this far. #triggerwaring (ED talk) I took the pic on the left during one of my Christmas breaks in college. That night I was so happy bc I went to a party and a girl told me I ate like a small baby bird. At college I made excel sheets for my classes that scheduled in at least 2 workouts a day, and another sheet for calories in vs calories burned and if my total calories for the day wasnt in the negatives, I was devastated. I believed beyond any doubt that my worth was inextricably tied to my weight. The less I weighed, the more I was worth. It was ROUGH. Even at my smallest I was told I was in the healthy range for my height #yikes Flash forward ~ 8 years and @toneitup recently used the pic on the right during a news segment they were on. Like, there I was pushing 180, in a bikini, on a tv and ABSOLUTELY in love with everything about myself. I felt so freaking proud I cannot even explain it in words. Like wow, look at how far I have come. From my body making me just want to cease to exist, to looking on it with nothing but love and pride with an additional 40ish pounds on my frame. This journey is absolutely not about losing weight. Losing weight by itself wont make you happy or bring you any sort of joy (honestly). This journey is learning to love yourself wherever you are. And loving yourself regardless of what changes your body goes through. Its about prioritizing self-love, care + health over a number. And this community provides support and a group to lean on during struggles AND a group to celebrate all your successes. On #nationalfitnessday I just wanted to remind you that fitness looks different for everyone. Comparing yourself to other people at different stages of their journey isn’t helpful - because we are all on our individual path. Take this from someone who has been both totally unfit, then underweight and obsessed with exercise, before taking time to work on myself and focussing on what works for me and me only - resulting in finally being happy with myself and what my body can do. Being so unfit I couldn’t climb 4 flights of stairs without struggling for breath was hard. Working out 3 times a day and counting every calorie on my plate was hard. During both stages of my life I was desperately unhappy, and as a result not looking after myself. I of course will shout the benefits of exercise and a healthy lifestyle from the rooftops - but you absolutely can take this too far - and I did. I was permanently exhausted, caught every cold going and my periods stopped. All because I wanted to look like “other girls in the gym”. But I wasn’t them, and that excessive behaviour nearly ruined my life. Balance is a word that gets thrown around so much, but I absolutely had to find mine. I did genuinely love the high of working out, but I had to re-educate myself how to make exercise a part of my life, not my whole life. I had to go back to basics on nourishing my body, not punishing it. And cheesy as it sounds, I had to learn to love myself. Because I didn’t for a very long time. Life is still a balancing act and I still have dark days, but I’ve genuinely never felt as happy and healthy as I do now, and more than that so honoured I get to try and help others find the happy and healthy that works for them. So this National Fitness Day, please don’t get caught up into forcing yourself into what you think fitness should be, or what other people are doing. You’re not them. Today is #NationalFitnessDay which made me reminisce on when (and why!) I started this journey to begin with. . On the left, I was eating exclusively fast food. Yes, I know I look “fine” and I would have agreed with you. But I didn’t *feel* fine. I had really bad digestive + GI issues and felt sluggish non-stop. I thought these things were normal 🤷♀️ until I realized... they’re not. . I started my fitness journey first and foremost to heal my body from the inside, out. Any physical change was just the cherry on top. I won’t say I didn’t care about the physical changes at all, but instead of wanting to be “skinny” I wanted to be STRONG and seeing that strength + all my hard work in the gym (and with my nutrition) come to life via my physical body, was so exciting and empowering!! . I never thought this type of physical change was possible. I chalked up anyone who was fit to their genetics, or to their extreme lifestyle + that they *MUST* have lived in the gym. I didn’t know that while yes, genetics play a part, your daily habits play a larger part. The photo on the right, I was eating 80/20 and working out 4x a week for 1 hr and eventually transitioned to 6x a week for 30 mins (FBG!! 😁) That’s it! . I never thought I could be “that person” who created a lifestyle surrounding fitness. I never wanted to be, honestly. But I needed to change the path my health was heading down, and I eventually fell in love with the journey. I fell in love with feeling actually energized for once!! I fell in love with feeling STRONG. . This is exactly why I created my FBG guides + eventually, the @fitbodyapp. I knew firsthand just how hard it is to get started AND to stay on track. I wanted to be sure that none of you girls ever had to struggle with figuring out what workouts to do or what meals to eat in order to get the most out of your time and effort. . As I’m starting my journey again from scratch, I’m reminded of how hard it is. How discouraging it is to feel so weak. But this journey is largely a mental one, much more than a physical one. I was thinking not to post but.. as this is my health journey why not to post on what I have become now There is still sometimes many ups and downs. First pic from left to right is how I was before having my kids, second one on top after having children and last is how I am now. I can tell you all I never imagined in my whole life I would be vegan and doing fitness now and going to gym more often. Still there are some people close to me that still dont accept who I am and what I have become. I learned in this my journey to be healthy, want to stop human hand harming animals animals should have right to live like us humans. What I have learned until today: 🌱 Sleep far more better. 🌱 Better balanced diet and understand better when Im too much full 🌱 Energetic 🙌 🌱 Have more confidence and self esteem. 🌱 After having my daughter I stopped sugary foods snacks and sugar in coffee. Eat more fruits and drink more water. 🌱 Learning more about myself like hidden talents love preparing and creating my own food. 🌱Happier than before. Learned that we should accept who we are and not be gealous of others acheivement. 8 years ago yesterday I had my first weight loss surgery. That started my long journey to lose 170lbs. It wasn’t easy, my journey was far from perfect and it wasn’t anything like I expected. In 8 years I’ve lost 170lbs. I had two weight loss surgeries and I went down 9 dress sizes. I also had a pregnancy after weight loss surgery and breastfed for 15 months. Monday Motivation! These two pics were taken 16 years apart. There is nothing wrong with me in the picture from 2004. However, I didn’t feel great. I was going about my fitness and nutrition the wrong way. I wasn’t eating enough, I thought I was eating healthy and I was doing way too much cardio. I would get up a 4:00 am to get a run in before I went to the office. I couldn’t understand why I just couldn’t seem to lose even 5 lbs. and I always seemed to lack energy. Even though I was a certified trainer, I continued with the same habits for a few years and then ended up having fertility issues. I decided to change the way I was doing things. I cut down on the cardio and started lifting more. I started really studying the foods I was eating and I started eating more. I also prioritized sleep. My energy increased. I was building muscle. I was sleeping better. I ended up being in the best shape off my adult life and I ended up having my son when I was 38. Everything I was doing before was not only putting a lot of stress on my body, it was messing up my hormonal balance. Hormonal imbalances including elevated cortisol can not only make weight loss difficult, it can lead to a whole host of other issues. Low energy Brain fog Increased belly fat Mood swings Bloating Poor Sleep After I had my son, I bounced right back. Since that time I have made it my mission to help other women. I focussed on my education and research and I developed my program to help women get the results they are looking for. The picture on the left was taken last September. To think I thought I looked good is crazy to me now because I now cringe looking at that picture of me, I was a physical & emotional wreck battling my demons fiercely every day. I wish I could go back & hug the girl on the left, hold her tight & tell her to stop destroying herself, to stop being so selfish & hurting everyone around her. To stop pushing her partner & family away & pretending she was ok & happy on her own.My heart hurts for the girl on the left, it physically hurts! BUT a year on & I’m the woman on the right, I’m proud of her, proud to be her! Yes I should of always been the woman on the right but I’m not perfect & I have fought undeniably hard to change in every way possible! I’ve got my shit together firmly. My journey hasn’t just been about putting the bottle down or the way I look or feel. A huge part of it has been about repairing existing relationships with my partner, family & close friends. And I’ve been lucky enough to meet some incredible like minded friends along the way. I am happy, truly happy ❤️ Last week I celebrated my 35th birthday, my first birthday that didn’t involve getting wasted & I can honestly say it was the BEST, most beautiful birthday I’ve ever had! Thank you to my amazing partner, friends & family for loving me at my worst, I know you didn’t always like me but you loved me unconditionally & never gave up on me. Thank you to those who love, support & inspire me! My heart is so full today it could burst ❤️ Life is better sober, life is better the real ME. I’ve found love, clarity & gratitude! 𝓢𝓱𝓮 𝓫𝓮𝓵𝓲𝓮𝓿𝓮𝓭 𝓼𝓱𝓮 𝓬𝓸𝓾𝓵𝓭 𝓼𝓸 𝓼𝓱𝓮 𝓭𝓲𝓭 Its been a while since I did comparison pictures so sometimes its good to remind yourself of where you have come from. In October 2013 I joined a well known slimming organisation being severely overweight and with what I now recognise as a binge eating disorder. I started losing weight and found a focus I hadnt had before. All was going well and I lost a great deal of the excess weight. It got to November 2014 and my birthday week and I put 7lbs on. At the time I had personal stuff going on and felt like losing weight had become the only good thing in my life. I was determined to put it right. Id been on holiday from work and when I went back I was bought a birthday cake to celebrate. I felt obliged to eat it. I felt extreme guilt for eating it and for the first time since my teens I purged. The following week at my slimming club I lost 10lbs. This sparked a cycle of binge purge behaviour and over time I started restricting calories and I was eating around 500 calories a day weekdays, with bingeing and purging on a weekend. This continued until my boyfriend took me to a gym and introduced me to weightlifting. I remember him saying to me we need to focus on you being strong not skinny and those words will always stick in my head. For the first time I had a new focus and actually had to start to eat to fuel my training sessions. I believe this was the start of my recovery. I was doing pretty well until lockdown hit. I started doing obsessive amounts of cardio and not eating enough to sustain it. At this point I was introduced to @fuelledbymacros who started to gradually up my calories and challenge some of the thoughts about food. Ive reduced my cardio and I am focusing on lifting again and fuelling appropriately which has had a massive impact on my mental health and mood. Ive come to realise that I will always be in recovery. ~ Mental toughness, going after your goals and battling bad habits ~ I got so inspired by listening to @davidgoggins talk on Joe Rogan podcast about getting after your goals,developing mental toughness and putting yourself through struggle in order to find who you truly are.”If you can get through doing things that you hate to do,on the other side is greatness.”This podcast made me reflect on my life and realize how proud I am that no matter how hard it was for me at times I was able to stick to my goals and prove to myself that I am able to achieve whatever I set forward.I have previously talked about my body image insecurities and how that led me to an eating disorder that I fought for almost 2 years.My body weight fluctuated like crazy over the last 8 years!Being in a modeling industry I felt pressure to fit certain standards and that drove me crazy.Finally I realized that it’s not about how you look and what size you wear, it’s about how you feel and how your actions in present effect your future.So I chose a lifestyle that makes me feel my best and as a side result I was able to be in a shape that I desired. I can truly say whatever doesn’t kill you makes you stronger!I was able to develop a beautiful relationship with food and exercise and learn how to listen to my body.I also realized how much I was influenced by external world and media telling me what I should want and when.It’s been an amazing journey of coming back inward and looking for answers within. Do you want to find yourself again? Joining a gym was the last thing I though of Always thought that wasn’t for me or I don’t look fit enough to go. But 2 years ago I knew I needed something else in my life other than being a mum I needed to step out of my comfort zone and do something for me. To find melissa again. I love my children to “infinity and beyond” and will do anything for them. Drowning in my own mum struggles. someone told me I needed to put myself first and look after myself so I can be the best mum I could be. I thought no way my kids come first! I was wrong I now have a saying “if mumma ain’t happy how can mumma make baby happy”. We all start somewhere. - I began my journey coming from a place of depression and anxiety. I thought my happiness could be found in a number on the scale. - I starved myself, I worked out constantly, I lost my period, I had legit panic attacks over food and no matter how low that number on the scale was... I only saw myself as the girl in photo one because I never allowed myself to feel happiness or self worth no matter what goals were being accomplished along the way. - Today I eat more than I have in all those years prior and plot twist, I weigh practically the same between the middle photo and today’s. I workout less and smarter. I enjoy pizza and ice cream on a regular basis but also look forward to fueling my body with fruits and veggies. I move my body because I can, not as a form of punishment. - I never thought I’d be where I am at today. I thought balance was a myth and that I was never going to be able to eat like a “normal person” and always would have to be on a diet. I fully believed I needed to be skinny to be happy. I thought I’d always hate my body. Yet, after many years of hard work and consistency I can, with confidence say I came out the other side. If I can, so can you. - If I could go back and tell myself anything it would be... Eat food. Do less cardio. Go out with friends. Wear what you want. Stop making happiness a destination. Fuel your body to feel good. Stop comparing yourself to others. Live your damn life. First off I want to say thank you to everyone that’s followed the start of my journey n helped me in anyway possible, it means the world. On November 15th 2018 (left)I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, at the time I was 14. The 3 days prior to this I was extremely sick, I couldn’t eat or drink anything and keep it down. Due to this I lost over 20kg in 72 hours, at this point I couldn’t even walk out of bed to go to the toilet as I had no energy. The ambulance proceeded to come to my house and ended up rushing me into hospital as I had 700 mg/dl blood sugar (average human has between 80-100 mg/dl of sugar in their blood) by the time they realised this I was semi-comatose and had to be taken into ICU (Intensive care unit) After spending 2 days there, the doctors finally got my blood sugars under control and officially diagnosed me with type 1 diabetes. This came to me as a shock as there is no history in my family of this disease, the doctor proceeded to explain everything that I had to know to be able to live my new lifestyle.This all happened fast and I was forced to grow up and sort myself out in order to live a healthy life. Fast forward to September 15th 2019 (11 months since my diagnosis) Life since my diagnosis had been rough and very weird for me, however I was ready to turn the negative into a positive so I started going to the gym. The first few months were slow and steady but I was so motivated to make a change and try and stand out from the average teens. For the first few month I would go to the gym before school started, and some days even after. I was meal prepping for the week every Sunday night and making sure I ate enough food to grow. As of today, September 15th 2020. I have been training for one full year, 365 days. If I was told one year ago how far I would come in such a short amount of time I would have never believed it, however with hard work and dedication absolutely anything and I mean ANYTHING is possible, just depends how bad you want it. Ive come so far and I am not stopping anytime soon and there isn’t one person in the world that could take this away from me. #NationalBumpDay 🤰🏼 124lbs•194lbs•154lbs . ALL THESE BUMPS ARE WITHIN ONE YEAR!!! 🤯 . The first pic is six weeks pregnant and now honestly, a little disturbing to see how rail thin I was. This was a high anxiety time in my life and I don’t ever expect or want to get back to that. . The second picture was 70lbs heavier, right before I got induced to deliver Baby Houston. I literally could not stop throwing up the entire 10 months and I also couldn’t stop eating as you can see. I. Could. Not. Stop. Myself. Period. My body was begging for food. . The last pic is my postpartum body after delivering two babies and with my sweet girl shining her light on me. I have lost 40lbs and my mind is blown that I was ever 30lbs lighter than this. . When I was at my smallest I did not see what that picture reveals. And now I almost feel opposite. I look at myself and my body today and I instead of seeing a size, I see respect. . Respect for my body and the journey it endured. What a privilege to have the experience of pregnancy and be given such an incredible gift at the end. . Give yourself permission to love yourself now because you don’t want to look back in a year (like I did) and then finally gain perspective. Links erkenne ich mich selbst nicht: unglücklich, ängstlich, beschämt und trotzdem in der Hoffnung, ein schönes Unterwasserbild zu bekommen. Obwohl es unser traumhaftester Urlaub und Bali wunderschön war, verbinde ich mit der Zeit soviel Unbehagen. Es gab nur einen Grund, warum ich die Bilder nicht gelöscht habe. Ich wusste, sie gehören irgendwann der Vergangenheit an. ❤️ Heute bin ich nicht auf Bali. Einfach nur ein kleines Kuhdorf in Sachsen-Anhalt und es erfüllt mich mit Glück, Zufriedenheit und Liebe. Weil ich mit mir im Reinen bin. Mein #Abnehmweg geht nicht steil bergab, es gab/gibt gute und schlechte Zeiten. Obwohl auch mein Normalgewicht noch entfernt ist, habe ich auf der Reise soviel über mich gelernt. Klar fühle ich auch mal Unsicherheit und Zweifel, aber diese Gefühle beherrschen mich nicht. Im Nachhinein glaube ich, dass das Wichtigste am Abnehmen ist, sich selbst anzunehmen und sich nicht über das Gewicht zu definieren. Niemand hat es verdient, sich wegen Übergewicht schlecht oder sich weniger wertvoll zu fühlen. I always show the ‘fat ➡️ fit’ photos but actually I was probably at my most unhealthiest in this picture. At the time I still thought I was fat and needed to lose more weight, I was barely eating, I’d binge because I was so hungry, then I’d vomit because of the guilt. I’d fill up on water before a meal, every morning I’d nearly faint if I got up too soon. Looking at that photo now I look pale and tired with sunken dark eyes, not happy and full of life. I’ve learnt so much about myself over the last few years but the biggest lesson I’m learning is that it has never been about the weight and has always been about the relationship with myself. I was so fed up of that yo yo lifestyle and the thing that got me out of it wasn’t dieting, it was finding a passion. I’m still learning and still working on the relationship with myself but rather than putting all of my energy into being less I’m putting a hell of a lot of energy into being more! One week out from my first ever comp 6 million years ago 😜 I had no idea at that point in time that this sport would enable me to travel the world, meet amazing people and learn SOOOO much! Your energy doesn’t lie. There’s six years between these photos. The first one is a headshot for corporate Holz 6 years ago. I was 25. I’d hit what I now deem the “quarter life crisis”. I knew I wanted something more from my life but had NO idea how that looked, so instead I accepted dissatisfaction. I ignored intuitive niggles because I couldn’t see the what lay ahead of me. It was easier to continue trudging along unhappily than dare to dream that something better could possibly lie ahead. Now don’t get me wrong - I have a lot of love for corporate Holz, she really was doing her best. She worked really hard...to the point of depletion. She tried to be the best friend and employee and girlfriend and daughter - all to her own detriment. She was the “good girl” - putting everyone else first because it’s what she always did. But still, the energy doesn’t lie, does it? The second photo is after 6 incredibly transformative years. THIS is why I am so passionate about personal development and soul work. There’s an undeniable aliveness in my eyes. The glow of a woman who is owning her light - not waiting in the wings for somebody else to give her permission to shine, to embody her true essence - to sparkle. She’s still the good girl - at times - but she’s also the wild woman, the sensual embodied feminine, the crone. Your energy doesn’t lie. Right now I believe more than ever the entire collective is being called to nourish our souls. Our energetic bodies. To finally say ENOUGH is enough to living a life dictated by other’s terms. What does your soul, deep down, yearn for? How are you speaking to your heart? What is love asking you to do in this moment? And how are you actually looking after yourself? The biggest change was on the inside. I look back at the person I was and I wish I could hug myself, give myself the love I didnt think I deserved. Life was a lot harder back then, and I owe that to my drinking. Drinking was my number one priority. Nothing else mattered. It didnt matter that I stopped caring about myself. It didnt matter that I was abusing my body and my mind. It didnt matter that I pushed everybody else away in my life in a way to self-sabotage. It didnt matter that I blacked out constantly. Alcohol took over and I felt trapped, stuck in my own personal prison. I didnt think I was capable of leaving this prison I had built. I didnt think I deserved anything else. I got so used to hating myself that I lost all willingness to fight. Seeing how I was then and seeing how I am now, I feel like a completely different person. First month was juice detox (no solids) 2nd month was mix of juicing and food & then 3rd month I started IF 16/8 with organic eating & exercise everyday. Fast forward 5 months, 30kgs lighter.
