Great testimonial post from our friends @mindfull.food who conducted an experiment using our NatureFlex flexible packaging firms. • We couldn’t believe what happened during this science experiment…. Roughly three months ago, we set out to find some eco-friendly alternatives to single-use plastic packaging. We found these 100% compostable bags. We were a bit skeptical if they actually would decompose or if it was a gimmick. So, we put it to the test… During two months, we monitored the clear bag in normal composting soil. The above picture is how much it decomposed in that time. JUST TWO MONTHS! When you compare that to a plastic crisp packet (which takes 80 years to break down)...WOW, isn’t that mind-blowing? Unfortunately, the majority of producers are not doing enough to reduce their impact on the environment, especially when it comes to packaging. There needs to be a change! If you are part of a big corporation, or even a small one - you have a duty, to this planet, to speak up for it. Mango skins - a great way to use mango skins, here Ive poached the skins in a stock with star anise, mustard seeds, coriander seeds & bay leaf. Then dehydrated over night into these fantastic strips of flavour. Brilliant to use in sauces, curries, broths etc to give an extra dept of flavour. Another way to use food that we normally throw away. Remember just because someone told you it is waste , it doesnt mean it is. Open your mind to eradicate food waste in your home & take simple steps to use everything. Also as mentioned in previous vids, not many people know that inside the white pip of a mango is a fantastic nut. Last week the production team brought a case to my office of product they thought was damaged and unusable. This was because the cheese bags looked to be puffed up, pillowy they described it. My immediate thought was there must be some bacterial growth causing the bag expand, but upon further investigation I learned it was not bacteria related but a packing error. . Shredded cheese can be packaged using MAP (Modified Atmosphere Packaging) as way to increase the products shelf life. The main gas used is carbon dioxide and it creates space around the cheese when it is packaged. This allows the shelf life of a hard cheese like cheddar to extend to about 10 weeks vs 2-3 weeks. . In a manufacturing plant that uses MAP for their products, a QA (Quality Assurance) Technician tests the % residual oxygen and carbon dioxide in the bag to ensure it is at the appropriate levels for the specific product. A hard cheese would have total carbon dioxide, while a softer cheese would have 20-40%. . If the proper amount of carbon dioxide Is not added it can cause the bag to retain more air and thus causing that puffed up look. #forksancoats #themoreyouknow - @forksandcoats on Instagram
