Garçon Style Scrapbook : 🎂 It’s officially been one year since I released my book Garcon Style! I’m still overwhelmed by the response - the first edition sold out in a month, it was #1 on the Amazon photography book chart & I signed 100s of copies on the road last September. Reflecting on the launch in NYC, it’s crazy to think that only 6 months later the world would be like a very different place. Reading Garçon Style today, it looks like a reference guide for how I’d like life to return to. Meeting new people, engaging face to face conversations, exploring urban landscapes, handshakes and hugs. The customised Army Parka… as seen on the fabulous @milliemackintosh I fell in love with this piece on a research trip… I loved it’s utilitarian functionality….so many brilliant pockets…it was crying out to have a new life and perhaps a little Wakeley-fy Upcycling... A gorgeous vintage faded gold tape (from the 20’s I think) that I had previously found at a flea market was the perfect pairing… then layering it on top of a wide cocoa grosgrain created a new sporty ribbon which was completely transformative. The epaulettes were removed (who needs rank anyway?) and replaced with a luxey overarm stripe…. The cuffs wrapped with this new texture… and chest pockets trimmed as a sporty nod to where the soldier’s name once was. So I’m going to come clean about something that makes me feel embarrassed, weird, and like I don’t fit in. Here goes: I’m doing great. As in, I’m in a really good place, mentally, while so many people are struggling with the isolation and lack of socialization. . . I’ve been home-bound (like so many others) for the last 2.5 months, with little social interaction. And I feel so happy and refreshed. I haven’t had to “put on” my social front, haven’t had to force myself to socialize. I’ve had a legitimate excuse to be a homebody. . . I see so many people posting about how hard it has been and how they are so ready to get back out there. But the truth is, I’m okay with the status quo for the foreseeable future. I’m happy to stay home in my PJ’s, cuddling with my dog and SO, watching movies, baking, and taking long walks. . . I feel as though I’ve been safely cocooned and I don’t want to leave this warm, safe place. I recognize that I’m incredibly privileged to be in this position. I don’t take that lightly. However, I feel like I’m the only person in the world that feels this way right now. I hate feeling this “different” and “weird”. . . Disclaimer: My heart goes out to everyone affected by the virus. I’m still very upset and affected by that aspect of the pandemic. This post just speaks to the mental side of it. - @theblissfulcate on Instagram
