Our first stop after picking up the van was the Container Store, to outfit the garage with additional storage. Luckily, hiking is our main outdoor activity, so we don’t have a ton of gear... but we wanted to make sure we still got everything organized straight away so we didn’t end up with a total mess in the back. The most clutch part about moving into a van, is that you can just pull straight up to stores, do all your shopping, make any returns, and speed up the back and forth. No need to drive back to the store to grab something you forgot when you’re just a quick 1 minute walk away. By the 4th time we returned something 5 minutes after buying it, telling the customer service rep that “it didn’t fit in our house,” she kindly asked... “How are you guys able to figure that out so fast? You just bought this 5 minutes ago.” That was the first time we explained that we lived in a van and were parked right outside to move into it 😬 Swipe to see the progression from the back! - @jomovan on Instagram

Safe to say we’re blown away by the craftsmanship, attention to detail, and quality work done by their team. They absolutely crushed it! The vision for the van was to be tough on the outside, but welcoming on the inside. For the exterior, we wanted to accentuate the 4x4s rugged design with @aluminess gear and @rigidindustries lights. I finished the framing and AC ducting in EVE tonight! I only used three sheets of 1/2 inch plywood and cut out every piece. It’s crazy how much you can accomplish when you focus your energy and time. The stoke is high for me right now and I couldn’t be any happier with the progress I am making! Y’all asked for it! How our bunk beds work below... . Essentially there is a FAT steel bar in the back strut of the van, with little round eyes bolted in. The PVC coated steel wire which holds up the bunks has 3 carbines on. Each end clips into the steel bed frame, and the middle one then attaches to one of the round eyes mentioned above. There’s also a wooden leg on the front end of each of the bunks. . The max weight ratings are as follows: Wire: 1100kg Eye Hooks: 1300kg Carbines: 900kg 3 Hinges: 600kg And everything else is welded steel. So we have WAAAY overshot it, but better safe than sorry! The DMs keep getting flooded with another common question... Does it work with a factory hard top? The answer is yes. It works just like stock. The latches for the freedom panels work just like stock. The top bolts to the cage just like stock. Even the sound bar fits. All of the plastics (except for the upper B-pillar due to the OE grab handle and the OE cage plastics) go back in with only minor modifications. This is literally the most thought out and well designed cage kit on the market. Theres some competition on the way and we are so advanced with this design, that its going to be tough to top it. If youre going to set the bar, set it so high nobody else can reach it. Thats exactly what weve aimed to do. The scan is complete and take offs are in process. Then its time to fine tune the design for mass production. An dieser Stelle nochmal vielen Dank an die zahlreichen Material-Empfehlungen, die wir erhalten haben..! • Leider kam der PVC-Boden aufgrund von Lieferschwierigkeiten nicht rechtzeitig an. Die Zwischenzeit wird aber dennoch produktiv genutzt, um restliche Dämmarbeiten an den Radläufen durchzuführen... • Als nächstes steht die Verkleidung der Wände und der Decke an. “Bella Luna” Finished up renovating Bella last week. She was brought to me after her owner, @howsheviewsit spent 2 years on the road. After this experience, she decided it was time for some upgrades for @thatconnectcamper. Tbh, I was a bit nervous taking on a van this size. I’m confident in my design & craft but most of this creative confidence comes from my personal experiences. Who am I to say I can build a livable space in a tiny Ford Connect? The smallest van I’ve ever lived in was almost twice this size! After struggling for a couple days to get the creative juices flowing, I realized that Bella’s biggest creative design challenge was actually her secret little design inspiration. I embraced her size constraints and started building. In my eyes, the final design came out pretty simple, economical, and very functional. Plus we decided on an awesome Moab, UT inspired color scheme which I think is always a win. Her owner is happy and Bella is officially a desert Babe. 45 days from empty defender, to somewhere I can cook, sleep and relax. Bedroom, kitchen, lounge in 3 square meters. Last 2 weeks or so have been such an enormous amount of work, with every job taking twice as long as estimated if not more. Big thank you to my landlord and neighbours for putting up with a rather noisy table saw. And thanks to @salmon.francesca for supplying copious amounts red bull and making me some curtains as I have no idea how a sewing machine works. It’s a little rough around the edges, and there’s lots of adjustments and final touches to be made, but they can wait until after summer. For now, it’s time to point her north and get on the road. i’ve been doing some more interior van work these last couple of days before endless rain is back on the schedule. kinda sorta mostly keeping me distracted. the silver stuff is sound deadening material, the furring is painted with anti-mold 1-2-3 primer, and the insulation is wool batting from @havelock_wool that has been glued to the wall with 3M super 77. this should hold everything in place at least until i get the panels up. the fan is a maxxair. not sure what to do with the wheel wells or lights in the ceiling yet. or a lot of other things. • #astrovan #astrovancamper #customvan #customvans #astrosafari - @jspake on Instagram

This has been a long 10 week journey and has been a huge mental strain trying to make all this work and still fit the CANAM 4x4 quad in the rear.
