“I think that one of the things about the film that I find interesting is that the Alva Posse gets their recognition. I mean, these are some pretty influential skateboarders. Fred Smith. Dave Duncan. Billy Danforth. All of them. They sold a bunch of boards. The Alva Posse photograph with all of us in the leather jackets is in there. It was in Chicago on a rooftop. We were all there at the same time for a shop gig, a demo… something. Scott Gross specialized in B&W film so we went up on the roof and took it. All in all, the film is just another interpretation of things. Buddy and Rick put it together and Jeff Grosso guides it. It’s a bit heartbreaking to watch now. It’s almost Jeff’s film rather than mine. In it, he talks about the price I paid and skateboarders pay sometimes to live the life some of us lead. He is quoting my Skateboarder Interview. He quotes, “Be prepared to suffer the consequences.” Then Jeff states, “I’m a perfect example of that.” Jeff gets to the end of the film… before the end ever arrives. I hope everyone likes the film. Here is an early photo of Norwegian black metal band Ragnarok, circa 1994. Hailing from the same small city (Sarpsborg) as Metalion of Slayer Mag, Ragnarok were a perfect fit for Metalion’s record label Head Not Found. Although they had become label mates with Ulver and Gehenna, it seems they never reached the cult status of those aforementioned bands. It’s to no fault of their own though, as their first three albums “Nattferd”(1995), “Arising Realm”(1997) and “Diabolical Age”(2000) are immaculate studies pure black art. Not to mention the handful of amazing album they would release in the 2000s. Thankfully their first two albums, which have been notoriously hard to obtain, were just recently reissued by @dsr_productions 🏆 - @arcanearchivist on Instagram

Nostalgia scan: Skate Rock ad from the April 1987 issue of Thrasher. Mike and/or Suicidal was in every single issue back then, whether it be through Suicidal Skates, subscription freebies, features, and ads upon ads for so many things they had going on. I still remember the first ad for Join the Army, digging the imagery right away, and skating as fast as possible to downtown Stuttgart to grab a copy. Anyway, people were digging Vol. 5 of Skate Rock the most at the time because Eight Days a Week (aka Eight Dayz on their actual LP) had such memorable cues in Wheels of Fire (particularly Whats So Strange About Me). Personally, I was still jamming Vol. 2 the most in 1987. It just felt like the best mix for our jump ramp sessions. Nobody was jamming Vol. 4. It was really bad and I even remember my friend Jeff stomping a dub of it in half after we tried to make the vibe work for a couple of days. I bit my lip a few years back or a decade ago or whenever all the cool modern tape collector weirdos were like tapes should NEVER cost more than $6. The Canon Award for Potential And the Livin’ is Easy by @capellajoliebuncher And the Livin’ is Easy is a rebellion against the demonising, two-dimensional stereotypes of working-class people that permeate British media, entertainment and wider society. In contrast to Jeremy Kyle’s poverty porn, Gymbox’s ‘chav bashing’ classes and Rees-Mogg’s assertion that Grenfell victims ‘lacked common sense’, Capella presents unique characters with complex existences. The project zooms into different members of her family and seeks to visualise the more abstract and psychological impact of being poor in Britain. This series captures her teenage brother’s struggle with depression and the space he shares with their 42-year-old brother, her father’s isolation, her desperately coping mother and the strained relationships that hold them all together. About the Photographer Capella Buncher (b. 1995) is a photographer from London, exploring the inequalities of the British class system and illuminating underrepresented existences. She only started creating images in the winter of 2019, yet her photos have been exhibited as a part of Please Mind the Flash 2019 and featured both in print and online by the BBC, Lecture in Progress and Magnum Photos. Since winning the 2020 Ian Parry Scholarship, Capella intends to extend And the Livin’ is Easy beyond her family, to the rest of Britain, with the desire to encapsulate the diversity and complexity of the working class. Photo by Mike Leberge. - In 1989, Englands Extreme Noise Terror were at the forefront of the crust genre. Having just released their masterpiece A Holocaust In Your Head, there were few bands who rivaled their reputation in the game. Their contemporary brew of aggressive hardcore was distinct and forceful, making waves all the way across the pond into America and inspiring a new crop of groups with their dual-vocal onslaught. Perhaps the most notable of those were Massachusetts band Disrupt. While still relatively new to the scene, they were already playing a style of music that earned them the moniker as the American ENT. Clearly its foolish to try and dispute the obvious similarities, but most seasoned listeners of the genre would bluntly tell you that comparing the two groups is unfathomable and borderline sacrilege. At the very start of their existence, Disrupt vocalists Pete Kamarinos and Jay Stiles were in discussion with their unofficial brothers across the ocean in regards to collaborating on a split EP for their premier release. This record would never materialize, however the bands remained in contact and forged a long distance kinship for years to come. They would eventually go on to collaborate on a project called Disabuse, releasing the sole eponymous EP in 1994. Still, while both bands went on to carve their own niche in the annals of crust history, one cannot help but imagine how this aborted concept played into the ultimate legacy of Disrupt as a standalone, classic band. In an interview with Jay Stiles of Disrupt, we explore how the two bands first came in contact, how the idea for the 7 came about, and why it ultimately never came to fruition. It was all a dream. Happy 20th anniversary to GC self titled. Biggest love to Billy, Paul, Joel (my 3 oldest friends wouldn’t be here today with out you guys❤️) and Deano (tho you’re not in the early days pics we wouldn’t have lasted if you didn’t come along ❤️) and BIGGEST thank you, love and appreciation to all the GCFAM. If there one thing we here about GC every where we go it’s “you guys have the most loyal fans” and we have always been so grateful and that is true today.
