21c Louisville and @louisvillevisualart invite you to an afternoon of virtual interactions exploring the ways that art & culture meet activism, in conjunction with Awakening 2020, a series of global events taking place on October 3rd organized by the @wideawakes2020, a network of thousands of artists, cultural workers, and activists driven by the most urgent social and political issues of our time. Our tears are our signals of undeniable empathy. For so long we’ve been able to say I’ll go to happy hour and forget about it, or there’s no time to think about that, I’ve gotta get into the office, we get swept into the current and away we go. There’s calls, and birthday events, and trips planned. And now, we’ve been poked. In places we don’t like to be poked. With no ability to swat it away. It’s like we’ve had this big bag of despair/tears/sadness somewhere within us, and it’s getting jabbed at in this time of isolation. And the more it gets punctured, the more it spills out. This Scorpio Full Moon has really brought that to light, on top of a quarantine where we are really looking straight at our “stuff” and straight at society’s “stuff.” But when we feel, we release, and we gain empathy. It’s tough, because for years and years, we’ve been building up more apathy….as a pal @quemzuzik mentioned yesterday. It’s time to reverse that. Apathy is our greatest weakness. We cannot heal our Earth until we love it so dearly we would NEVER watch it go…we cannot mend the inequality in our systems until we empathize with the people suffering from them…Compassionate action will get us so much further than we’ve ever been, but we have to start by sitting in those feels and understanding that’s where it all begins. - @becca_reitz on Instagram

My Art, this has long been a form of resistance. From the silver coins my ancestors would melt down to make jewellery (to the point the U.S. government had to remove silver coinage & replace them with paper forms of 10 & 5 cent denominations) but also we believe the pieces made act as a form of protection & was often made with that intention. 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽 Speaking of making me a happy indigenous, I would love to extend the love (& protection) of my one-of-a-kind hand made pieces of art. Now. Think about our anticipated second wave this winter. With mass homelessness. With concurrent flu A and RSV in season. What will that look like? For our patients? For recovery? For outcomes? If you take a quick look at the discogs page for polish black metal band Titan Mountain, it looks very similar to many other bands of the era/country. Just 3 releases, all originally on tape with a couple small run reissue CD pressings since. The truth is that this is just the tip of the iceberg for Titan Mountain. Since the projects inception in 1995, originally called Forest of Pride Slavs, Titan Mountain has been the one man project of musician Nazgrim. Nazgrim’s unrelenting vision for TM has manifested itself through over 10 LPs. Most of these releases never seeing a physical release other than a carefully crafted cd-r, made by Nazgrim himself. Although TM’s sound has changed through the years, starting as a technical and symphonic black metal and transforming into instrumental symphonic metal, the vision and the aura of the band has remained true to Nazgrim’s vision. I have included a few photos that Nazgrim has kindly shared with me, from his debut LP and in his home studio.
