This is @bath_preservation_trust Trust taking over Visit Baths account this weekend. Our Senior Planning & Conservation Officer has chosen to highlight a challenge facing Bath’s ‘streetscape’. Many of Bath’s wide streets and flat pavements, including North Parade Buildings (pictured) remain uncluttered with unobstructed views and are outstanding examples of Georgian town planning. Historic town planning combined with architecture make Bath’s streetscape unique and beautifully photogenic. While Bath benefits from wonderfully wide pavements in parts of the city which provide ample space for social distancing, in many places, pavements are narrow and car dominated, but still provide a place to sit with a coffee and watch the world go by. The challenges caused by Covid-19 to the social and cultural lives of residents and visitors, as well as local businesses, attractions and eateries are being partially addressed by the provision of additional outside seating on pavements across the city. Bath will also see the creation of ‘parklets’, seating and planting in car parking spaces in places such as Kingsmead Square and Westgate Street. As Bath’s streetscape is re-imagined in response to COVID recovery we will be seeking to ensure the right approach which supports wellbeing, accessibility, and enjoyment of the city, prioritises pedestrians over cars, sustains our cherished local scene and enhances Bath’s distinctiveness. Bath Preservation Trust will continue to campaign for attractive public realm interventions appropriate for the quality of the city. The annual 15th August Fair Day has been a tradition in Kenmare for over 200 years. Taking over the town but mainly in Fair Green, known locally as the Square - even though it is triangular in shape! The Fair was originally over two days, the first day for livestock and the second day for flannels, brogues, linen and other non-livestock items. It was once described as a large concourse of people, in general well dressed and with more animation and apparent enjoyment of life, than in any set of people I saw. So, nothing much has changed, except that it did not take place this year - the first time since the 1760s. In just 30 years, the village had been transformed from a pine forest to the bustling county seat of Door County with its abundance of sawmills. Today we’re back at Borough Market for our post yoga oysters. I’ve been thinking about how Londoners have literally been eating oysters in this exact spot for almost a thousand years. Today we them with stout for a more authentic experience. . You’re probably tired of our weekly date pictures, so I’m posting these pictures of Brown’s Dairy from the Camden archives. I’m a direct descendant of Charles Brown who opened this dairy in 1790. These pictures were taken in 1903, the year it was demolished to make way for the Camden Town tube station which stands to this day! I like to reflect on my family history of running family businesses in this great city. It’s with a sense of extreme pride that I’ve returned to the town where my ancestors grazed their kine on Primrose Hill, among our many links to this ancient city. . Coming in from the colonies and hanging out my shingle on Leyton’s ancient high road is the greatest adventure I’ve ever undertaken. Testing my fortune in this great city is the greatest gift I could ask for. .
