Happy National South Carolina Day! Today we celebrate all that is this wonderful state-places, people, culture, food!! This was my favorite sight to see after our long drive moving here. I love this state. My favorite are the people, I love doors being held for me, I love talking to people while on line and connecting giving me an unbelievable sense of community. What are some of your favorite things about this great state?? #nationalscday #nationalsouthcarolinaday #southcarolina #sc #fortmill #fortmillmoms #fortmillnow #welcometosouthcarolina #welcometothesouth #welcomehome #yall #blessyourheart #blessed #lovewhereyoulive #elevationchurch - @fortmillsclife on Instagram

Uptown Sedona By 1950, Uptown Sedona was starting to take shape as more than the rural post office and dirt road that it was in 1939. In this photo the Canyon Portal Shell gas station appears to be doing a brisk business while its companion business the Canyon Portal Motel had a banner out hoping to pickup guests from the new tourism industry. Across the street, the Hitching Post Motel sign is partially visible above the truck bed. In the background are the first walls and roof rafters of the Wayside Chapel going up and George Jordans two wood water tanks on the hill. . . 📸: Courtesy Sedona Heritage Museum . . #visitsedona #sedona @sedonahistory #momentintime #historicalmoments #sedonamuseum #arizona #arizonahistory - @sedonahistory on Instagram

#𝗧𝗕𝗧 By the 1950s, cattle drives were rare on Scottsdale Road through Old Town except during the Parada del Sol celebration. 🤠 🐮 During the first half of the 1900s, Scottsdale was a cattle ranching and farming community, and cattle drives were common, with cowboys herding cattle from ranches north of Scottsdale to the stockyards and railyards in eastern Phoenix near todays Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. This view is likely during a Parada del Sol in the 1950s as a prelude to the Scottsdale Jaycees rodeo. Seen in the background are the Scottsdale Bootery and the Sprouse-Reitz Variety store. ⭐FUN FACT⭐ the Sprouse-Reitz Variety store became the Pink Pony in 1970. 📸 via Scottsdale Heritage Collection ▫️ #OldTownScottsdaleAZ - @oldtownscottsdale_az on Instagram

A listener asked through KJZZs Q&AZ reporting project what it the origin of our states name. According to the Secretary of State, the Spanish sometimes spelled Arizona with an S or even two Ss. And it was located somewhere in what are now borderlands. But scholars disagree on the meaning and the source of the name. https://fronterasdesk.org/content/1595805/qaz-whats-origin-arizonas-name . . . #kjzzphoenix #npr #publicradio #pubmedia #journalism #q&az #arizona - @kjzzphoenix on Instagram

Today marks the 35th anniversary of the creation of the Kissimmee Utility Authority. In 1983, the City of Kissimmee formed an ad hoc committee to determine the best way to manage the city’s electric utility. Up until that time, the utility had operated as a department of the city. In 1984, after a full year of research, an ad hoc committee presented its recommendation for a separate utility authority to the city commission, and the commission then reappointed the committee members to a charter committee to develop the charter under which the new utility would operate. The following year, the city commission approved the charter and one month later the residents of Kissimmee voted 2-to-1 to accept the charter that formed the Kissimmee Utility Authority, effective October 1, 1985. KUA continues to operate as a not-for-profit, locally-controlled public power utility. That means the community has more control, so all the benefits produced by public power—including affordable energy costs, better service, and a focus on local goals—stay right here in our community. #PublicPower #Kissimmee - @kuadirect on Instagram

Speaking of Middle USA; we were able to get up close & personal to one of our favorite Great Plains animals during our recent creative retreat to South Dakota. 🌾 That trip included visits to the Black Hills, Grassland National Park, the Badlands, Sandhills, Cathedral Spires, Custer State Park, Sylvan Lake, Toadstool Geological Park and many other stops along the way. On the White Water Walk at Niagara Falls, visitors get a close-up look at one of the worlds greatest natural treasures. Stroll at your own pace along the wooden boardwalk and stop for photos at any of the observation decks scattered along the way. Feel the mist of the Class-6 white water rapids on your face as the thunderous flow of the nearby Falls surrounds you. Unless you jump right in (which we dont recommend!), the White Water Walk is the closest youll ever get to this iconic attraction. The Pioneer ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Few figures evoke the look and feel of the West quite like the American bison. The inspiration behind a trip to Wyoming, the animals are hardly a rarity in certain parts of the region, but still manage to provide a special encounter each time. Whether it’s the distinct shape and rugged horns or the resilience through conservation efforts, the bison has become a cultural icon, and in recent years, the national mammal. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ How do you capture an icon? Some planning, patience, the right bison, and some luck, all for the hero shot. - @eric.kanigan on Instagram

This is a photo of the Ethanac Cash Store in the Ethanac community, which was named for Ethan Alan Chase a citrus grower in the area. Later the name was changed to Romoland to accurately reflect its proximity to the Ramola Farms community. A small sign shows it was also the post office and perhaps the small sign on the left is for a telegraph office, since the Menifee Siding was nearby at the railroad tracks. #menifeehistory - @menifeehistory on Instagram
