The goal was to educate members of Congress and other Government officials about reforming the severely outdated 1995 law that governs many forms of licensing and royalties due to artists such as streaming music plays. We spoke & our government officials that we elected listened. | Artist currently do get paid per digital play or stream. Sadly the rate per play is roughly 1/8 of a penny. Artists on the radio get paid per play, however they get between $75-$100 per play. When an artist gets their music played via a streaming outlet their music is being played because the listener seeks the artist out & chooses to play their tracks. The radio crams whatever they want to play down your earhole. Record labels have to pay the radio stations to play their artists. #SeemsLegit | Spotify’s revenue doubled last year from $1.2 BIL to $3.3 BIL & they are estimating they will do $6 BIL in 2018. Spotify pls remember that the reason you are going to get 6 Bs this year is because of the ARTIST’S MUSIC you are charging people to hear via subscriptions or paid advertisement. Record streams = Today’s record sales. | The Music Modernization Act officially passed the U.S. House of Representative unanimously 415–0 vote Wednesday. We just published a new investigation with a simple premise: we asked janitors how things are really being cleaned as Coronavirus rages. The bad news is really bad. Dirty rags, rushed shifts, airplane bathrooms that arent disinfected between flights, a cleaner at a fancy Miami office tower who resorted to bringing in her own bleach. Think about how many custodians work: Unseen. At night. Jobs go to the lowest bidder. Median wage is $13 an hour. In recent years, many workplaces have cut back on cleaning. (I hadn’t known this.) Now: Enter coronavirus. Airplane cleaners say many between-flight cleanings are still under 10 minutes. “Just pick up trash, check the seatbelts, cross them, make it look good, and if a tray table looks dirty, you wipe it,” said Barbara Gomez, who cleans American Airlines planes at LAX. (Thats her in the flowered shirt.) Or consider a Cheesecake Factory that reopened in CA last month. Maria del Carmen Mendez, a pregnant cleaner, said that even when her husband was hospitalized with Covid, she was expected to fill her shift-- and she did. A health inspector came by to make sure we weren’t operating at Blackbird Brunch . Instead of offering to help us get the permit we need to sell curbside, he threatened us with a fine of $100 if we are caught selling food (we are not). The chapter houses are closed yet the corporate fast food locations are operating. I’m not even upset because this has been the behavior of the Navajo Nation for decades and the only thing we can do is hope and vote for change. But I am determined.
