After spending the last 7 months living on the other side of the world in south east Asia I have arrived back home in Canada and surprised the whole fam and friends! I have never cried this hard in my life. This week’s Why I Basecamp is dedicated to this amazing individual, Mike! I came to Basecamp at a challenging time in my life...age 57, in terrible shape with a marriage ending. I had a son at age 50 and I wanted to be there to dance at his wedding and that wasnt happening the way I was going. I was intimidated by most gyms and had no idea what or how to do anything. I needed structure. I needed direction. I needed variety. I needed support. I got that at Basecamp. The people. The other campers. NEVER, as probably the oldest and most out of shape camper, NEVER did I ever feel less than 100% supported. I cherish those 35 minutes and the 10 minutes of abs and truly feel 1% better everyday. I am a therapist and I know you are either getting better or getting worse, you never stay the same. One of my best days ever was in February when I earned my Seven Mile shirt (which I didnt believe was possible). My seven year old was with me that day (picture enclosed). He is my why and he got to see what happens when you put in the work. It’s so crazy to think I’ve been in this town for 5 years and how many dreams of mine and my friends have come true! MIRACLE BABY 👶🏻💙 You know when your family goes through so much shit that you just accept that you’re destined for bad luck only?! Well this is exactly what our family has needed. A miracle. Lucas is a dream and I hope he brings hope to not only testicular cancer survivors, but all cancer survivors. Possibly THE most devastating part of cancer is infertility. Some of us are able to bank sperm before treatment, some of us are not. Levels and doses of treatment vary. Surgery causes extra complications. Medication causes complications. There are a million factors that keep reducing your chances (trust us, we know). Again this shows why early diagnosis is key, you’re more likely to experience moments like this. For those of you who won’t, we are with you and we understand. But I hope Lucas provides a little glimmer of hope for some of the men going through cancer right now. Miracles do happen 👶🏻❤️ Ps.
